I worked for Flying Tigers at Heathrow for many years loading 747 freighters they are a fantastic aircraft to load , but I wish the lower deck had been designed by someone taller than 5'2'' however good job Boeing. Keep up the good work Cargolux , nice to see one being loaded again.
The 747-8i is the passenger version and has a larger upper deck. The 747-8F is the freighter version and has a smaller upper deck to save weight as it only needs a small upper deck for the flight crew. The 747-8i is not currently selling so well, although some airlines like Korean air and Lufthansa have brought a few, because most airlines are still happily using the 747-400's and don't need to replace them yet. Airlines also will more likely opt for 747-8's as the A380 can't land many places.
the difference is in the design of the aircraft. The I (passenger version) has a longer section where the 2 levels are to fit more people. The F (cargo) has a shorter 2 level section with a longer single level section to fit more cargo easily. and obviously the nose door. the F also has shorter range due to the extra weight of the cargo.
I don't know much but my guess is the freighter version is able to open up the nose for loading and other freighter options. Perhaps stronger brakes or whatever might be needed on a cargo jet. My guess is that they are flown with higher loads. The "i" I believe stands for intercontinental which makes it a commercial jet for transport of people. I don't know how it's selling but it might be lower due to competition with the airbus A380.
Well people, the 747 has been always my favorite passenger jet, I flew in one from Frankfurt, Germany to Puerto Rico non stop and let me tell you it was a great smooth ride all the way, the 747 - 8 is even more beautiful, and can't wait to ride in one.
the F is the freighter and the I is the passanger version, and, becuase people will chose the 777-300ER or A380 (sadly, the airbus) instead but woo 777! IF IT AINT BOEING I AINT GOING!
Singapore Airlines Cargo will consider buying this Boeing 747-8F as Singapore Airlines Cargo operates 12 Boeing 747-400F "Mega Ark" as Singapore Airlines had Just Retired its last Passenger Boeing 747-400 on its last Flight from Singapore to Hong Kong and SQ Had Received ALL 19 Giant Airbus A380 Passenger Airliner to replace the Venerable B747-400.

Every time you think the 747 has reached the end of its developmental life - it hasn't.
747-8F looks stunning!
