Ive just had a good ride on the new version and have had the previous RS version for 3 years, believe me the new one is set up for the track use being very firm for my favourite bumpy B roads. If you want a full on sports bike then the new one is miles better. If like me you have had your fill of sports bikes that become fun beyond my idea of sanity then thats the reason i purchased a naked 2018 RS to be fun yet more road biased. For my light weight the i'm sure the springs would have to be replaced with reduced spring rate versions as no amount of adjustment would make any difference. In addition the throttle was surprisingly snatchy particularly noticeable after bumps when no amount of smooth throttle control will help. This bike will be heaven for those that genuinely want to ride hard / enjoy track days.
Wanted a Triumph when I passed my test a few years ago, but out of my budget, bought an MT09 1st Gen. Now the new Triple is out, it might put the older model in my bracket 😎
Brilliant video on this bike. They’re rare where I live. So it’s great to see one being ridden with energy and gusto. The usual detail was as usual really interesting. Very enjoyable. Thanks Mr. Fly!
Nice review again. I just decided on getting one of the last 1050RS' - better lower-down pull, and those exhausts...! The 1200 feels /looks like is a result of Euro5, and the extra power only usable on track.
I bought a 1050 RS two weeks ago and wondered if I'd done the right thing or if I should have waited for this new version. After watching a ruck of reviews on the new one I think I made the right choice. I think the 1050 looks better and I agree with TMF about the exhausts. I love the black and yellow of my 1050. Again I agree with TMF 148 BHP is plenty and I agree with moto.warwick that the extra power is only really useable on the track. On top of that Triumph did a pretty good deal on the 1050, free quick shifter, £1,000 off price and £500 worth of accessories. If you factor all that in it works out about £4,000 less than the 1200 but I don't think it's £4,000 less of a bike. I doubt I will ever get anywhere near the limits of the 1050 so I sure as heck wouldn't on the 1200 so for me yes I made the right choice.
@@TheMissendenFlyer I think I found the last one in the country (Switzerland) in black. Apparently only 1 km, and a good price. Cannot wait to pick it up 😉
Thought it looked great, best Speed Triple by far. I liked the colour and prefer the low exhaust. Didn't catch the price but will be more than I would spend on a bike.
As a very happy owner of the 2019 Speed Triple RS, this review I was looking forward to very much. I love the new bike from everything I have seen, but I have yet to ride one (the one dealer here in Michigan is very stingy about offering demo rides). The bike's looks are a bit 'plain' compared to the musclebound version like mine; I love the most everything I see but there'd be a lot to do on that one (exhaust, front cowling/bug screen, etc) and here that bike is $18,300... which is pricey. I LOVE that new TFT display, really attractive looking from everything I've seen so far. it's a shame you didn't get to open it up and let her rip, which is probably the biggest change - +30hp is no joke. I love the headlights and taillights so that's no issue (I love the headlights and my after-market taillights on my '19 too). I am hoping to see you do a more in-depth review and hope that you were able to get into it more. As always, thank you for keeping your reviews real and honest.
Sadly Scott the bike went back today and because I've been away riding my GS in Wales I never got to ride it again - if I'm honest I think you have the best version of the bike, bruising looks and ample performance....you're not missing anything with the new bike IMO.....
Casualty of redesigning the gears for better mesh efficiency. Same story for the undertail exhaust, brawny bruiser looks, and plush suspension. Will be interesting to see how well this bike sells now that its personality was lobotomized, and it's just another competitor in a sea of dying track weapons.
Just bought one, thanks for helping in my purchase decision! The suspension frequently mentioned is fine for normal or heavier riders, needs adjusted to comfort settings for light riders. One of the best bikes, if not the best bike I've ever ridden, from my old 1937 OK Supreme to my blades and modern 1250 GS adventure.... Well done MF for a great review as ever.
It would be a British bike if it was actually made in the UK. As it is, it's a British design made elsewhere and imported back into the UK. Yes I know they do it to save costs but harping on about it sticking union flags all over Triumphs is wearing a little thin these days.
You should do a "throwback review" video of your street triple! Like review it again and see how it stacks up against 2021 bikes; essentially a super long term review
lookin good, one thing I don't like is the head light style on most of these modern bikes, I just like one round types. at 67yrs, I got the street cup, my type of style.
Yeah it's amazing how things like lights can really change the whole vibe of a bike isn't it - I personally love these but get they aren't to everyone's taste...
Funnily enough, that’s one of the reasons I’ve never been too excited by the GS. I know it’s daft because they are astounding bikes and I’m obviously in the minority, but - I kinda know what you mean!
Really nice bike! Being an old Army guy, I kinda like the matte paint job. But that’s coming from a guy who loves his Tiger 1200 Desert so I’m obviously biased. I’m gonna have to go ride one. Looks like a lot of fun! Great review Andy!
Terrific review as usual Andy. Will have to give it a go whenever we get it in to our dealer here in Nth Queensland, Australia. Reckon she would go like a cut snake!! With you 100% on changing out the can. Stay safe brother.
Had a chuckle at your garage. Looks like a small bike dealership. Never seen so many bikes, helmets, jackets etc etc. Without teaching you to suck eggs - might be worth letting the Arai Rebel go. Bit passed its recommended shelf life. You never told us about the tyres you liked. I was trying to look on the walk around. Think they might be Metzler Racetec RRs?
You definitely shouldn’t be buying a bike with that criteria in mind. I’ll go a long way to say that probably wasn’t at the top of agenda when they were designing the thing.
Nice vid Andy. I think I prefer the looks of the previous model to be honest. Curiously all the 2021 Speed Triples tested have all been the boring grey option with not one in the nicer gloss black finish which I find a bit odd.Triumph have come under a lot of criticism for their poor colours lately so maybe they will take note and produce some more colourful options next year.By the way the old red and red and white colours on the older models sold really well so don't be fooled by the marketing boys trying to convince you that grey is a top colour option [black has always sold well].Take care mate and ride safe.
@@TheMissendenFlyer yeah i've seen your review. i did ride the prev gen it was so exciting. i'm referring to the new cyclops 2021 model. triple love! anyhow have a good day TMF.

Good morning.. great content as always Im looking to purchase either a 2019 speed triple or a Yamaha mt10 sp 2019 I know it's personal preference but what one would you recommend? And are bikes with 10,000 miles on them ok to purchase? Many thanks🙏
Lately you don't do a segment on highway performance. You don't need a 175ph bike to do 40kph. I want to know at 130-140kph how many RPM the engine is spinning at and if there are any spots in the REV range where the engine vibrations is noticed. Also, I like to know what the torque curve looks like. You didn't even mention the torque spec. These things are more important than available colors as you mentioned twice.
looks amazing. finally got a few hours test and it was good and bad, after 150 miles turns out the PDI and road test out of the crate at the dealer, they forgot to check the chain tension and it was at least 65mm travel, engine felt rough as a box of spanners at certain revs, was vibey and rough at low revs, failed to roll on for such a big torquey engine on lazy bends 35mph ish roll on in top, unlike the older 1050 i had or my ninja 1000sx. handled amazing, brakes amazing but gearbox and engine was pants, they have offered another test when it goes back through workshop... I'm on the fence with this one but i will go back to re-test, surely the chain tension cant make this many issues?
According to Bike magazine it is to track focused, they don't seem to rate it over the previous model rs for road use. They say it's not as planted on the road? Personally I prefer the looks of the 2018 rs in white.
Great review got to admit Im not a fan of recent Triumphs I think you could be correct the colours available are a tad boring. Are you going to up date us on the progress with the Royal Enfield project?
I wish I had something to update you with! Still being done, the estimate was "about 2 weeks" - that was 5 months ago!!! ...and this is the second try I've had as the first custom house let me down, one well known custom house just flatly refused to do it (and it's not like I'm not paying full price!!) - proving very hard to get a bike customised!!
Hi Mr Flyer , I’m tempted to get the 2020 rs - I Save 5k and I never go on the track ….since you have ridden both …. Should I go all out for the new - even if I’m not a track racer
If this bike had a good old fashioned round headlight at the front it would look amazing. The bug eye KTM esque light would be a deal breaker for me. Shame because I like the bike.
Yeah it's amazing how things like lights can really change the whole vibe of a bike isn't it - I personally love these but get they aren't to everyone's taste...
Agree, would love Triumph to do a proper retro speed triple and combine the classic Triumph details with that killer motor. I ride the Rocket which does that albeit in a ridiculous scale. Much like the old big Guzzis like the Griso, feels like we are missing performance and character across most of the market.
I believe it was meant to be a Streetfighter version of the Daytona…. At least historically. Crash a Daytona, remove the fairing bits, but keep the lights and you are left with the lights looking a little odd without the fairing. Ducati went in a different direction with the Monster and put a round headlight…. In the early days, but that has also gone more stylized. For Triumph, they have several bikes with the round headlights, so in some ways this bike offers something with a different look.
@@nielsmeer but didn’t first year SpeedT not have a single round then they went to a twin round, at same time they offered the classic Thunderbird and Trident 🔱 with a triple, the first gen are getting better looking with age albeit in a day glo nuts way 😎 personally I’d put the big triple in the Thruxton RS and detune slightly back to say 145hp,
@@78Outlaw yes, very early speed triples were like monsters with a single round headlight followed quickly with twins. Ironically when the Daytona was discontinued was when they switched to the style of the fairing style headlights without a fairing in the speed triple back in 2005. I like both aesthetics, but to me the twin round feels iconic.
Hi TMF, I noticed you pulled the RE 350 meteor video. I had looked forward to seeing that one as I've discovered the fun of riding smaller bikes over heavy and expensive big bikes. Hope you are still going to feature it. Cheers
What is that compound/estate that you ride by sometimes (4:41)? You used to do walk-arounds, probably a couple of years ago, until you were asked/told not to. I seem to remember you calling it "checkers," but I don't think that's right. Please forgive my American ignorance. Anywho, I've been meaning to ask for some time, but just seeing it in this video brought it to mind. I f'n love that new Speed Triple, by the way, and this was another awesome video. 🤙
Yes, the twin high exhausts definitely looked better, but would, probably, have put the wet weight over 200kg, which wouldn't have been a good selling point, I suspect.
You make excellent videos! Just a suggestion, but I find that a lot of motorcycle reviews are very vague when talking about the engine. It would be really nice to know certain things, like how much vibration there is in the handlebars, foot pegs, and seat, and what the cruising RPM of the engine is in top gear at 70 mph. The American (Southern California) reviews are almost totally worthless, because they are so vague, and don't offer any details about the details. So thank you so much for your wonderful, heartfelt videos. I would be lost without the English motorcycle videos.
I am the fortunate owner of "19 ST and I'm pleased as punch. I had a '19 Yam MT09 before & I think if I had had the SP version I would never have given up that bike. As it was it had an incredible engine but less than ideal suspension & was a bit nervous on the open road. My Speedy has eliminated that shortcoming and is just the S model. The added torque is also nice as well as the finish in white with the warm pewter frame and black engine / wheels... I get a hardon just looking at it.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes, yes I am! I owned a lot of bikes over the years but, frankly, this Triumph tops them all handily, even an '05 ZX10 (my former favorite)! Test riding the RS in a few days Mr Flyer. Was preparing myself for a bumpy ride as I've read a few reports of very hard suspension. You made brief reference to it but also said a plush ride. Are these other reports overplaying this issue and its actually a good set up for the road? Be very interested to know you views. Thanks.

Not impressed with the back end as per usual, that’s just me though. Always look unfinished. I love your modesty with the comment regarding the turning circle. You’re a great guy and very professional. Cheers Andy.
Hmm, still like (prefer) the heavy set look and beefy sound of the previous 1050 model. However, yet to see this new model in the flesh but I do prefer some shiny paint. Many thanks for the video.
Great TMF review as always. TMF have you tried the Beeline Moto navagation module? Its a Uk based company that was featured on Dragons Den and Triumph just launched a special edition version.
Gosh... We started today with a High Definition review of a 220 HP 🤪 RE Meteor that disappeared (finger trouble?) and ended up with a low res Rooty-Tooty Speed Triple. I love the Triumph. EDIT: The HD version has just arrived.
No, Royal Enfield asked me to take the video down as they changed their launch date (but didn't tell me) - so I uploaded this one to replace it and the HD processing hasn't completed yet - if you watch it later it'll be clearer.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Oooops! I bet their media crew are glad they have your number. Good review. The obvious question is the suspension too hard for the road ? (I've read the MCN review !) The other question , what's the best road bike a 2020 Speed Triple 1050 RS, or a 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS ?

Mr Flier, I recall having read somewhere that lithium ion batteries aren't a good idea for use with heated grips. Do you know if this is still the case, or if battery tech has improved to the point where this is no longer so ?
@@TheMissendenFlyer My own battery's an AGM one but I'll certainly try to ascertain if Lithium ones are now ok with the heated grips. I think the previous issue was due to insufficient voltage at tickover when at traffic lights, town speeds etc, when the alternator rotor isn't spinning fast enough.
I'd be so up for a Speed Triple but having had a 955 that basically spent most of its time broken down (it was quite old) I think I'll stick to Japanese (even old Japanese) :D
Hey folks? we are all kid's at heart that's why we ride bikes. Cool looking bike but can't help thinking the Speed Triple is a bit more useable on the road
Good review. One question for you: Most journalists such as MCN, Ride or Fast Bikes pointed out that this new bike was badly set for the road as it is too stiff - like a ZX10R, very focused and it is rather a good track bike. What is your impression on this? Is it too stiff? Most of them also stated that the new Speed wasn't easy to ride at low speed like the old 1050. What was your feedback when you were in town centre? Thanks for sharing, Keep up the good work.
@@TheMissendenFlyer that’s the kind of information I’m looking for! You can count all the adjustments before you take a bike out for a ride and then play with the adjustments as you ride it. Then simply return the bike back to stock settings before you return it. Just be careful with the tools.
They should fit those clocks to the STRS much better than the current ones on that bike. MCN tested this bike against 2 of its closest rivals and put it last saying the others were better road bikes this works best on track. Looks good though but again needs a tail tidy like most bikes now.

Yes, that is consistent with what most reviews are saying. I am very disappointed Triumph have got the suspension so wrong
Wanted a Triumph when I passed my test a few years ago, but out of my budget, bought an MT09 1st Gen. Now the new Triple is out, it might put the older model in my bracket 😎
I know other channels have done a review on this bike. But I still watch TMF's review first.
How very kind of you!
Brilliant video on this bike. They’re rare where I live. So it’s great to see one being ridden with energy and gusto. The usual detail was as usual really interesting. Very enjoyable. Thanks Mr. Fly!
A “wheels up” U turn in the car park? That would’ve been spectacular!! 😉😂🤣
On a Star Wars Land Speeder maybe ?
Nice review again. I just decided on getting one of the last 1050RS' - better lower-down pull, and those exhausts...! The 1200 feels /looks like is a result of Euro5, and the extra power only usable on track.
Me too iv been waiting for this but definitely going for the old one
Great bike the previous Gen if you can find one....
Cannot wait to pick it up 😉
@@John-im6mm Agreed. If I ever get a bike more focused on track use, it will have fairings...
Have you visited Fox Motorsports in Wyoming MI? They let me demo a new Tiger 900 off the floor last fall.
@@kensnodgrass1755 No, but I may. Thanks for the tip.
It doesn't seem to have the triple "whistle". I actually like the color scheme on it.
Casualty of redesigning the gears for better mesh efficiency. Same story for the undertail exhaust, brawny bruiser looks, and plush suspension. Will be interesting to see how well this bike sells now that its personality was lobotomized, and it's just another competitor in a sea of dying track weapons.
...well it was pretty good to be fair, light and agile compared to the previous bike....that said I think I prefer the 2018 1050 machine....
I hear the whistle...
Thank you very much and congratulations on the new bike Steve!
12:10 It should come with a tail tidy & swing arm mounted mudguard as standard, they aren’t pushing the boundaries enough with design & performance.
They can’t come with a tail tidy as standard, it’s down to homologation and euro rules
British roads British bike
Thank God for Triumph: what progress for the past 10-15 years!
More like, British roads, better bring an adventure bike...
Where is it made
It would be a British bike if it was actually made in the UK. As it is, it's a British design made elsewhere and imported back into the UK. Yes I know they do it to save costs but harping on about it sticking union flags all over Triumphs is wearing a little thin these days.
@@alanwright9112 Speed Triple is made in UK as far as I know, been to the factory myself, nice tour, recommended!

Btw, best part of your reviews is the walk around. We get a really good look at the bike, nice

Thank you! Appreciate the kind words!
Just can’t warm to the ‘Insect like’ headlight, all the rage these days.
100% agree. I love the bike, if they could just put a round LED headlight it could be one of the best looking on the road.
@@jasonmullin4310 they've been doing the twin headlights for so long it's become a signature, they aren't about to change it.

Yep it’s like, damn we forgot the headlight quick shove summat on ...
can't agree more, dealbreaker for me
Had a chuckle at your garage.
Yes the bike has gone back now but I think you're right....
Been waiting to see this tested. Thanks
The front indicators look in an odd place? They are going to break straight away if you drop it.
You definitely shouldn’t be buying a bike with that criteria in mind. I’ll go a long way to say that probably wasn’t at the top of agenda when they were designing the thing.
The front is odd. Its all too marmite.
Don't make a habit of dropping it then.

Cracking stuff.. deffo think one of these will be going in the toy shed next to the triple rs..

‘Fraid so!
Lately you don't do a segment on highway performance. You don't need a 175ph bike to do 40kph. I want to know at 130-140kph
how many RPM the engine is spinning at and if there are any spots in the REV range where the engine vibrations is noticed.
Also, I like to know what the torque curve looks like. You didn't even mention the torque spec. These things are more important
than available colors as you mentioned twice.
Such a nice looking bike. Very tempting to go and test out.
Those old exaust were the speed triple Mark.... I loved

Nice one flyer....

I hear it's very good on track plus it's got big hp up top.. but unless you push it, it's very civil.
Great review. Just from your mike it sounds smoother than the MT-09. If you don't like those bar end mirrors, can you change them for conventionals?
looks amazing. finally got a few hours test and it was good and bad, after 150 miles turns out the PDI and road test out of the crate at the dealer, they forgot to check the chain tension and it was at least 65mm travel, engine felt rough as a box of spanners at certain revs, was vibey and rough at low revs, failed to roll on for such a big torquey engine on lazy bends 35mph ish roll on in top, unlike the older 1050 i had or my ninja 1000sx. handled amazing, brakes amazing but gearbox and engine was pants, they have offered another test when it goes back through workshop... I'm on the fence with this one but i will go back to re-test, surely the chain tension cant make this many issues?
Well I guess it's possible if it was that loose.....
Be nice to see the display lit up , mr flyer in ur reviews , that’s the bit you look at a lot whilst riding , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Love to compare this to the BMW S1000R... I just worry if this is to track focused for someone who won't ever take it on track.
No, it's road focused.
Nah - it's a road bike first and foremost
I know I'm early on this question but get me out of my misery. Which one do you prefer. Speed twin, speed triple 1200 or ktm 1290 sdr
Tough call - not the Speed triple though!
I think Andy actually prefers the georgous Ducati Streetfighter.
Hi Mr Flyer , I’m tempted to get the 2020 rs - I Save 5k and I never go on the track ….since you have ridden both …. Should I go all out for the new - even if I’m not a track racer
To be honest I loved the 2020 bike, I also think I may prefer the meatier looks - go for it, great saving!
Funny you mentioned about foot controls... I found both the gear and brake levers set too far inwards too.
Also don't despair on the weather. It'll come round..... hopefully...
We're moving into winter now (Canberra, Australia) brrrr
Trouble is here there are no guarantees - although it is warm and sunny today at last.....
Yes, the twin high exhausts definitely looked better, but would, probably, have put the wet weight over 200kg, which wouldn't have been a good selling point, I suspect.
Good point on the „colours“ if black and grey is a proper colour 😉 loved the look of my T595 in yellow 👍
Great suggestion - and thank you very much!
Crikey! Lucky you!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes, yes I am! I owned a lot of bikes over the years but, frankly, this Triumph tops them all handily, even an '05 ZX10 (my former favorite)! It feels as though it were carved from solid billet and handles like a dream! An excellent aphrodisiac!😛

Mr Flier, I recall having read somewhere that lithium ion batteries aren't a good idea for use with heated grips. Do you know if this is still the case, or if battery tech has improved to the point where this is no longer so ?
First I've heard of it!

Yes it was stiff as I showed down that bumpy road - but it is adjustable - if its anything like my Street Triple you can get it set softer....
