I just replied to someone saying those prices were on the high end seeming not to realize the specific parts of Manila being discussed in this video. These are the two most expensive areas of metro Manila and yes the prices are very accurate for those areas. The video even mentions that prices are cheaper in other areas. So need some extra money for travel and leisure. Also if you find a partner there that could significantly raise your expenses.

I live @ BGC condo since 2011; from a 32K pesos/month condo to a 130K/month condo. There’s so many accommodation choices here according to your financial capacity and taste. Just stay in safe areas for your safety and be wary of swindlers.
With that kind of monthly rent, you can just buy your own condominium unit. Most condominium owners here in the Philippines targets foreigner because they know that the rent will look cheap for them but honestly, you can get a 3 bedroom condominium for just 3-4 million pesos. Or pay it monthly around 20k-30k a month. The good thing about it is that it is yours already. You can sell it or have it rented when you want to move to another location.
Living for 20 years in a 3 BR condo 1.5km away from universities breakdown of expense: 3br property is $80k(2001 price) monthly dues: $100 water: $50-$100 electricity: $100-150(no aircon)-$180-250(with aircon) weekly grocery: $20-40
Hey Jim. Great video. I was spending $575 for a 3 bedroom in Pasay City walking distance to Newport and Resorts world. I did a video on this but it was my cost of living. One of the greatest things is that flying between islands is much cheaper. Like two thirds less as all flights are direct out of Manila.
I just vacationed in Manila and I think you need more than 2k to live comfortable. I thing more in the range of 3 to 3.5k at minimum to live and play in comfort. I’m planing on retiring there on 7 to 8k and of course being able to save and travel with that.
nyknicksable I was in Makati for a week on vacation and easily spent over $2,000 in one week. The prices were comparable to California, where I’m from.
LOL. that is just too much. I know locals who live at 160 dollars a month. Not even cosidered very poor. Haha what have you been eating? Buffets every meal? And stayed at a famous hotel?
I live on a monthly pension of USD1,000 with peso equivalent of around Php52,000 here in Newport City, Pasay. With that budget, it is a challenge to meet obligations and needs equivalent to comfort. You should really be wise in budgeting and have strong self control to overcome spending temptations
Hey! This is a very informative vid, thanks! I wonder are there any co-working places and how is the internet? I keep hearing that the internet in the Philippines is not very good. What's the price of scooter bikes rentals?
Yes there are! The internet here in metro manila is not bad. In the province area, it's a bit slow. But if you are in central areas (metro manila) like manila, makati, BGC taguig, Quezon, Pasig, Pasay, Cubao then internet shouldn't be a problem. I pay around $30 a month for 25mbps internet of converge and it is really fast :)
I rent a 3 bedroom condominium for around $1600 a month. Its 2 streets away from Green Belt Mall. Its about 1400 sq feet. Also comes w 1 parking slot. An extra parking cost me $70 a month.
I am Fil-am residing in California. I always thinking of retiring in the Philippines. I rather live in the province in a big city than to live in metro manila. Any suggestion... maybe in Luzon area.
Pablo Magat, I really like the provinces too. My favorites are the ones near nice beaches like Mati and Panglao but there are many, many great places to choose from.
Jeepney is probably the most economic and ICONIC way to circle around Metro Manila and it includes a wide variety of events/entertainment that would optionally requires you to give tips and these are drummer at the back of the jeep, singers, people who randomly gives you a small envelope, religious activity and the most aggressive of them all the holdduppers especially for expats like you, DONT fight them! unless you don't want to see the next sun rise.
NORTHERN SURVIVAL BACKCOUNTRY, Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I love Bohol. It's one of my favorite places in the Philippines.
I was in Manila in April of last year. I was considering a move and stayed in Makati while doing the majority of my house-hunting in the BGC. Conclusion? It's more expensive for the same housing and amenities in the Manila area than where I currently live in the U.S. Side note: many relo'd expats I've encountered over the years don't have $1,000, much less $2,000, to live on monthly - which is a major reason why they moved overseas in the first place. You know, "higher standard of living for far less money." In many cases, they were ill-inforrned, under-financed, or, if they did research, believed the clowns who insisted $500/month was all one needed in places like Pattaya. That's one reason countries like Thailand are actively throwing indigent foreigners out these days (and, sorry to say, many of those "refugees" are winding up in Philippines!) Thank you for publishing realistic figures!
Hi $500 a momth is enough if you live a simple life and not rent in a condominium. There are a lot of good and comfortable apartments (not condominium but fully furnished) around makati and Taguig that cost around $120-$160 a month. Food here is cheap as well and if you could cook, then you could save more. Here's my monthly budget if you want a reference: RENT: $100 INTERNET: $30 (converge 25mbps) ELECTRIC AND WATER: I have AC so usually around $60-$70 FOOD: $100-$150 (I cook, sometimes order local food from local dining or small karinderya) SOAP, DETERGENT, SHAPOO AND OTHER: $60 (I wash my own clothes? TOTAL: $410 TO $460 a month. Hope that helps.
US Medicare A/B is not available (except for some plans that include a 90 day travel&emergency care). There is a public tax supported scheme (Philhealth) for Philippine citizens. For expats there are many private insurance plans available like Maxicare and Blue Cross. There is a national emergency hotline 911 and specific emergency call to police (117) and the Red Cross (143). In BCG there is a world -class hospital (St Lukes Medical Center) staffed with English-speaking US & European trained specialists. US ; European and Japanese pharmacopoeia is widely available. Often prices are 1/2 to 1/5 US prices (example an inhaler of salbutamol cost $5-6 here ) Hope this helps.
@@Pnoydoc8 911 emergency hotlines with paramedics? With the traffic in Manila I doubt it will make a difference. You need a helicopter to reach hospital in time for emergencies. Fix the monstrous traffic jam first.
Lived in Manila for 15 years. Health care is a joke, even at Makati Med and St Lukes. Went to the hospital 4 times during this time and misdiagnosed all 4 times. Now take the wife and son and fly to Singapore for anything more than a common cold. Completely incompetent doctors. Got quite a few Filipino friends who were drs or nurses in the US and came back to Manila for retirement. There are only a handful of doctors who would be considered world class from their perspective.

Hey Jim. Great video. I was spending $575 for a 3 bedroom in Pasay City walking distance to Newport and Resorts world. I did a video on this but it was my cost of living. One of the greatest things is that flying between islands is much cheaper. Like two thirds less as all flights are direct out of Manila.
Costs of living in business districts of Metro Manila are very high, even comparable to some of the developed cities of the neighboring countries.
Mark Edison Alviz, We agree. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment.
I just vacationed in Manila and I think you need more than 2k to live comfortable. I thing more in the range of 3 to 3.5k at minimum to live and play in comfort. I’m planing on retiring there on 7 to 8k and of course being able to save and travel with that.
nyknicksable
I was in Makati for a week on vacation and easily spent over $2,000 in one week. The prices were comparable to California, where I’m from.
Yep, I was thinking the same thing.
LOL. that is just too much.
Angelina Espiritu what is the
biggest challenge? Do you
need western food? Have
you compared Metro Manila
to life in province?
@@hirofan Rent is the most challenging.
I like to check out Manila and Makati living but I am still in lockdown in Cebu City but still ok. Here in September 2020 since September 2019.
An extra parking cost me $70 a month.
this is at the high end of the range
Not really, seems pretty spot on for those specific areas. Of course this video focused on the two most expensive parts of Manila.
The Genuine Filipino Smiles and hospitality are free 😊
Very accurate
I am Fil-am residing in California. I always thinking of retiring in the Philippines. I rather live in the province in a big city than to live in metro manila. Any suggestion... maybe in Luzon area.
Pablo Magat, I really like the provinces too. My favorites are the ones near nice beaches like Mati and Panglao but there are many, many great places to choose from.
Mindanao is great. You won't find more supporters of the president anywhere else. Including the Bangsamoro Basic Law-areas.
If I were u I will choose Mindanao especially bukidnon typhoon is rare on those area Davao too.
Kudos for being street smart. Your price estimates were pretty realistic.
OliWar, Thanks!
I like to go to places where there are many friendly people. I would like to see the Phillipines.
My wife's from bohol what a difference lol tht is paradise island I'd move there
NORTHERN SURVIVAL BACKCOUNTRY, Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I love Bohol. It's one of my favorite places in the Philippines.
I prefer BGC western living close to domestic and international airport for easy island hopping to different islands or international travel.
@Joepoe20041 , I agree, BGC is a good choice.
Thank you for sharing Manila manila I keep coming back Manila
Hhehe 500 a month could barely cover for my food expenses even as a single man
Hi $500 a momth is enough if you live a simple life and not rent in a condominium. There are a lot of good and comfortable apartments (not condominium but fully furnished) around makati and Taguig that cost around $120-$160 a month. Food here is cheap as well and if you could cook, then you could save more. Here's my monthly budget if you want a reference:
RENT: $100
INTERNET: $30 (converge 25mbps)
ELECTRIC AND WATER: I have AC so usually around $60-$70
FOOD: $100-$150 (I cook, sometimes order local food from local dining or small karinderya)
SOAP, DETERGENT, SHAPOO AND OTHER: $60 (I wash my own clothes?
TOTAL: $410 TO $460 a month. Hope that helps.
nice
What about healthcare? How efficient it is? Is there a 911 for emergencies? For retirees excellent healthcare is very important.
Good point ... give me 3 winter months in Florida and the rest at home in Canada ... 911 and Hospitals around the corner ... cheers
@@flicks28 That is so sad to hear. So disappointing. How do all the expat workers and retirees cope?
