    Very helpful. Need to keep the example sentences simple like in this video but should also put the romanization in for them as well. 8 and 9 are examples of sentences I doubt most beginners would understand or hear correctly without romanization. A good example is 8 where she is saying “this shirt looks ugly.”
    She says sueea dtua. The dtua sounds like “doo” when she says it fast - which means “look” which the learner is expecting to hear. Most beginners don’t know to add dtua (body) to the word for shirt so it can be confusing especially when followed by nii because nii would not follow doo. Even my Thai wife agreed this was confusing. This is why romanization is so important in the beginning.

    For "small", effectively it's "lek" (เล็ก) but it's possible to say "noi": nok noi (นกน้อย) small bird.
    "เล็ก" (small) is not the same thing than "เหล็ก" (iron).

    when do you use dee jai/ mii kwan suk ?

    • @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573
      @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573 8 лет назад +1

      Mii kwam suk literally means 'have happiness'. I know it sounds so unnatural in English, but yeah this is our way of saying. lol Supposed that you got a very high score on your exam, you were dee jai. So when you are dee jai, you mii kwam suk as well, but the meaning of dee jai is a bit more specific. Hope this is helpful.

    • @eeeeyoooo
      @eeeeyoooo 8 лет назад

      thanks! correct me if im wrong, does dee = good and jai = heart? so in a way, dee jai implies your heart is good/happy?

    • @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573
      @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573 8 лет назад +1

      +eeeeyoooo yes you're right, more example of usage of mii kwam suk is stated as below.
      To say it easily, dee jai = glad.
      Mii kwam suk = happy
      In some cases, they can be used interchangeably.
      Hope this is helpful. Thanks for being interested in our language (:

    • @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573
      @piyawachsujjavongcharoen1573 8 лет назад +1

      +eeeeyoooo One more thing, in our language, adjective comes before noun. Dee jai and my heart is good seem to have the same meaning, but in my understanding, it sounds like a new word. To illustrate this point
      Hot weather= aa-kard (weather) rorn(hot)
      So dee jai should be heart good, which does not make any sense in English.
      Conversely, good heart, jai dee, makes sense in both English and Thai.
      Jai dee means kind. You are kind. Khun jai dee
      Hope this is helpful.

    Now Im starting to understand a few as a direct translation...... WOW..... they say some things similar to english and other things so shortened and..... strange.... you speak too fast is "you talk fast go" i was expecting a very (maak) or something. And asking to speak slower was a whole different thing. The "please" that you add to the translation often isn't there. Reminds me of learning neo-solomonic and bislama. You get to realize how incredibly wrong the subtitles are. Entire stuff missed coz they couldn't be bothered.
