To change exposure setrings to the way you described, no need to dive into the menus. Just press and hold the front scroll wheel select ISO. Here you set the order of importance, and if you have more than one dial set to use the front dial it will default to thr option that appears first. For me exposure compensation. To force the camera to use the other one, like iso, just press the front dial once to toggle between them. If you are doing this a lot, you might want to change the order of prioirty. As you discovered with the ND, a number of buttons can be long pressed to access and change certain setting to avoid digging through the extensive menu: Disp/back - to set up all the function buttons Q button from ahooting mode - to set up the layout of the Q menus Q button from witnin Q menu environment to create or adjust your custom settings (film recipes for many people) Front dial - to set up its function and priorities For manual focus, if you set the ael/afl button to focus (aka back button focus), you can use this to pre focus before fine tuning with manual ring and shooting. But because of the poor MF experience I use this set up with continuous shooting mode. A really useful function to allocate to a button or touch fn is to toggle between C1 and ehatever C-mode you are in. Set this to a more neutral film recipe that works for most situations, with a vanilla shooting experience anyone can use. Then, if you want to hand to a friend and you usually use back-button focus, or certain views or settings, quickly switch to C1. When then give it back, toggle back to your last setting. Populate the My Menu so that you dont have to keep finding things you change regularly, but not regularly enough to go in the Q menu for the custom settings. Like image stabilisation, which can be left off 95% of the time, but you dont want to be hunting around for it at a criritcal moment. Oh and for better AF performance you absolutely must not use AF+MF. If you do so the camera uses shutter priority, even if you have set the camera to focus priority. There is no warning about this in camera, nor in the manual under AF+MF. It is hidden in the manual under focus/release priority. And for Continuous shooting mode users yiu really must set up the mode (custom mode best) and change it according to what you are ahooting - it helps greatly with AF accuracy not to be using a mode that is working against you! Loads of things to discover and you could make dozens of videos, but the ones I mention really help some of the frustrations that might put off new users!
I set up the Fn1 button (very top-right part of the camera when looking toward the subject) to turn on/off the ND filter. I use it a lot and waiting for several seconds is annoying with the lever. In the other hand, the button is instantaneous. On a similar note, I set up the front red Fn2 button to bring up the flash menu. In this way, I can easily turn on and off the ND filter and flash, which I change often and are perhaps the main settings that significantly change the way the camera functions (aside from hybrid EVF).
Sounds like you have the V since the front button isn't red anymore. But with both I agree the delay can be a bit annoying. I sent that on the front to do this. Find the delay on the lever a bit annoying. The x70 was the same with the top button. If I've allocated a function to a FN button, it's because I want quick access in the heat of the moment. I have it set to self-Timer for now, but may well change to flash settings or flash on/off - I think it's a great tip to allocate a Fn button for flash. As an x-t5 user it's easy to forget I actually have one!
@@roosahatinen I have the tiny function button on the top plate set to turn the ND filter simulation on and off. It is very comfortable. I too didn’t know about that quick ND access atttached to the lever. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Really nice video. Do you like the camera a lot so far? I thought about the Sony A7cii and geting a 40mm and also a 24mm so sony lens, but the camera you have is cheaper. For street is what Iam looking for. I have a canon r5, but it is kind of big and canon dont have a nice small lens maybe. So you like this camera best? Heard it has same lens as previous model so not sure if the sensor and lens resolves the megapixels effectively or not, how good the quality is? Weight looks nice for street compared to canon r5 with lens. Do you shoot jpg, heif or compressed raw? Is heif good or not supported much? Guess the fujifilm film simulations import into lightroom if shooting conpressed raw. Is it slow if shooting while using the simulation s? Do you shoot Velvia simulation, Portra 160 Portra 800, Lomo 400 or what do you like for street? Any things you dislike about the canera and would you buy it again if you didn’t have it?
nd switch is game changer.. I know that from the setting nd filter toggle is set to that switch but couldn't figure out how to trigger it. It needed 3 second!
@@Amcacs5654 x-t5 style flipping might work but they need to make it looking as clean as this, x-t4 style flipping is the wrong choice for the camera and Fuji would never do it. They should include the adapter in the box and we can add only a uv if we want, but the reason it is not weather sealed by itself is that the lens would have to be bigger with all internal movement. The way it is right now is better because you have the option to use the x100v as slim as possible without full weather sealing or add the uv to have it a bit larger if you want. We had no WR on cameras for decades, now the x100v / vi is already much more weather resistant even without a uv at the front, no need to make a big deal out of it.
Hey Buddy, loved your Video! I have a question, maybe somebody could help me. If I'd shoot in RAW and JPEG using recipe would the RAW file look like a photograph without the filter and the JPEG like a picture with the recipe applied ? If not is there a way to arrange that? 🙏
Hi new to the X100Vi camera, I have noticed this thing with my camera where when I am cycling through the different film simulations and move the camera around while the menu is open, the pan is really slow like 10FPS slow(almost laggy), but when I am done selecting the simulation I want, it goes back to normal? is that common behaviour?
I’ve come from xpro3 and noticed some lag slowness with the x100vi. Wondering if it’s the raw and normal jpeg and compression settings? Using a uhs-I u3 card. Anybody else?
It's funny how we figure things out like the ND filter when it's written in the manual, but we just throw the manual away when we get a new camera 😂 Another "cool trick" is, that you can format your sd card without going to the menus by holding the 'drive/delete' button and back dial button for a few seconds
Experienced Fuji user here ! Got one on loan - it’s lovely but the hype is out of control - thinking of buying one ? TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - my £1800 is far more likely to go towards a Fuji MF now😎
Mmmmm...... still prefer and think the 100v is a way better camera....ibis not required for stills and 40.2 megapixel ... files way too large....all else the same. .....
I feel like this is the wrong camera for toi( having watched this video. A rx1rii used seems like it would be a way better fit if you’re taking off every advantage the Fuji has, and losing iq in the Fuji.
Well, I work full time a pro photographer and videographer and this is the type of video I’d have enjoyed watching when I purchased the X100VI - since it can be a bit of a daunting camera with tons of ways of setting it up
Watched tons of videos but never heard about the 3 second ND-switch! Thanx!
So glad it helped
Not need to move and hold the switch, just push in the center of the switch.
I unboxed the x100vi today and your setting recommendations are already helping me transition into the Fujifilm ecosystem. Great video!
Really glad you found it useful man

Very good explanation. I am still waiting for my X100VI. I will use your settings and tips.

Top notch vid, covering a lot of things that others have overlooked.

I like your videos; they are in-depth and easy to understand. And your narration is so soothing. Great Job!

I set my ND filter to the lever's button. In this instance, you only need to alternate your presses between ND on/off.
The ISO and SS wheels are a game changer - thank you!
Didn’t know about the ND switch tbf.. but I’ve got it as a swipe down on the screen and that works nice for me.

I love the “T” and “C” method. Very similar to a Sony video setup. I love that! Thanks!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos!! (I don't jump the adds)
Thank you!!
Great suggestions - that ND switch is a great tip! Make sure your RAW processor of choice works with Fuji compressed RAW files first.
Good tip
You can also set that front button on the lever to turn on or off the ND, much faster dan holding the lever
I actually tried this but was finding I was hitting it unintentionally
Better to set ND by pushing in the back scroll wheel 🫡 (it presses in like a L3/R3 on a video game controller)
Nice tip too

For street, I absolutely love it. 35 is perfect and the x100 line purposefully has a very quiet shutter
@ Would you buy that or the Sony A7Cii and or if you have the canon R5 already would you just buy a particular lens for that and use it for Street ?
Wow. The 3 second ND switch!

Do I spot The Barbary at 1:28? May be my favorite restaurant in London.
They need to bring the D pad back with the next one. Also better battery and flip out screen.
Flip out screen might be the worst thing you can do to this camera, it’s never going to happen thankfully.
@@heliogenesiNah, they could do it where it flips both ways. Also needs to be weather sealed out of the box. I bet the 7 is going to be way better.

I prefer the X-T50. The X-100VI makes photos like an iPhone 4.
AF+MF ON is the worst you can do! This automatically switches focuspriority to releasepriority and so you have more unsharp photos.
