    Norwegian LHD Stian Solberg is the latest to get the Moritz Seider comparison. This will be a yearly thing now that teams are willing to take a chance on just in case.
    Connelly is that swing for the fences pick, he does not fit the typical Red Wings character standards that are impeccable and never waver..... but they are not getting close to adding dangerous wingers at that #15 in the draft.

    What really gets overlooked with all the signings that kept players in GR, both at forward and on D, is that the 21-22 season derailed because of depth. One or two injuries and the team was done. So we added depth wanting to be more competitive deeper into the year and able to handle the inevitable injury bug. Probably figured that Berggren and Ed would get 40-50 games by seasons end due to various injuries. And then nobody got hurt. All year. Until Larkin and Walman missed time late, nobody really missed more than a game or two. It was a crazy season in terms of injury luck for the skaters. While I think Ed especially could've helped the team sooner and should've been up, it really was a strange situation.

    With the equipment question at the end, I almost wanted to say everything. Then, Brad brought up helmets. haha. Yeah, it is sticks, but I'd say skates have made a huge jump, too. Just since I started playing in 2018 both of those have changed a lot at the retail level. But pads have also gotten lighter while finding ways to add airflow. Gloves have gotten better with movement and feel without giving up protection. It's a wild time to play in terms of equipment.

    Was it last night's game where both Bouchard AND Janmark scored? I love that Kenny gets to reap the rewards of his bad decisions. But y'all pointing out how he's having to play against his bad decisions, too, helps.

    Has anyone mentioned the potential possibility of Igor Shesterkin being a possible trade target? His contract is up next year and I have a feeling New York would want to get something for him before he hits the free market if they sniff out he might want to leave. He's only getting paid about 5.4m this upcoming year. Then we could sign him for an extra 4 years at 6-6.5 million with some bonuses. By then either Cossa or Augustine will be ready. And if they're both ready, we'll have a Cossa-Augsutine tandem by 2029.

    Very happy so far with how Danielson has done, but I can't help but think that maybe we should have gone for Benson. 30 pts in his first year and slightly younger than Danielson. Ofc he's not a center, but we have Kasper likely coming up, and I feel like Benson could have replaced Veleno and already got more points than him this past year. Could've used Veleno in a package for either trading up in the draft or getting someone who could fill in a center spot, albeit we still might see Veleno get traded soon. I know it's way too early to judge, but thoughts?

    • @mattl2642
      @mattl2642 3 месяца назад +1

      Wings need centers. Danielson is a center and projects to be a middle 6 center in the nhl. Benson is a left winger.

      @mattl2642 right - that's what I wrote in my post, but I'm thinking maybe we should have fixed the gap on the wing with Benson and signed an FA center

    • @mattl2642
      @mattl2642 3 месяца назад +1

      @GrantGauthier I totally get what you're saying. But we've signed 2 free agent centers the last 2 years, and it's cost us nearly 11 million in cap space for the next 4 years. Great centers don't hit the open market, and if they do, teams have to severely overpay to get them. Skilled wingers are much easier to come by in free agency. Therefore, it's a better decision to focus on drafting centers in hopes that you get lucky and strike gold.

    If you have three Griffin forwards up on opening night, it will be a long season. Re-signing Raymond, Veleno, and Fischer leaves three nightly spots. You hope one of those is a new guy outside the system or Kane to provide scoring.

    • @shawnhunt4442
      @shawnhunt4442 3 месяца назад

      In 2013 Yzerman brought up Johnson, Connolly, Palat, Panick, Killorn, and Namestikov and Kucherov. 7 call ups in one year. It's possible he does something similar again. Which would leave Veleno and a couple other guys out.

    • @hockeyinalabama
      @hockeyinalabama 3 месяца назад +1

      @shawnhunt4442 yes, but this is a continuation of one of their previous conversations about how to replace Kane's production. You can bring all those guys up. You can scratch Veleno and Fischer, which doesn't move the needle much considering their roles. But where are the points lost by people like Kane, Perron, and Sprong going to come from. Not one or two of those guys. All three. That was the part that I didn't explicitly lay out and left as an assumed context.

    I agree with Petry and Holl not being great additions, but will Steve or Derek ever agree with that on Petry? I really disliked that Wahlman was always the scapegoat for bad defense and got scratched because of it. While Petry never was taken to task by the organization for his defensive lapses.

    I love how mysterious of a GM Yzerman has become simply for the drama he creates. He's basically a magician you're pissed at because he won't tell you how his process works. Lol I understand a lot fans like Brad want the high end offense AND have 5 graduating prospects but I'm not convinced this draft helps with any of that unless Yzerman pull a Debrincat Kane level of a trade. Idk I'm here for the excitement though I just don't see it at 15 though.

    • @ericscottstevens

      Debrincat basically traded himself to Detroit. Ottawa's hands were tied with a contract, minimal trade partners, and a guy warning never to play for them again. Detroit had the cap room and an extra #1 pick from Boston for barter. It was a perfect storm.

      I want Copp nowhere near the second line. Johansson needs to be on bottom pair and Petry is number 7 D. Would start Edvinsson on second pair with Maata (he seemed to do well with Hronek before he was traded). That may help keep him calm and transition well.
