Thank you! I had no idea what this thing looked like inside. The noise was driving me crazy. There were 3 hermits that had found their way down there. Two were still alive.
Just wanted to say I was really intimidated to do this at first, but after watching your video I knew exactly what to expect. This maintenance was a breeze thanks for posting the video!
Thank you for watching. I am glad that helped you. I found that after a while the diaphragm seems to have issues keeping the water level consistent. At about my reefs two year mark I seemed to have to adjust the diaphragm every other day. I ended up removing the diaphragm and adding a gate valve. It's one of the top three upgrades I have done to my system. The water stays level and adjustments are so easy. SithRico has an easy to follow video. Just one comment on that. When I changed it out, I inadvertently loosened the pumping connection that attaches to the tank and a tiny leak formed.. I tried to tighten it but it still leaked. After panicking, I found an easy fix.All you have to do to stop the leak is momentarily remove the pipe and use a paper towel to clean the threads. Just push the paper towel up from the sump area.
Two question, what is your pump set at and which way do I turn the value to reduce flow? My tank is very new and horrible noisy. Looking at your overflow it seems the water is much higher in yours.
Shelagh Millett I was using a SICCE Syncra silent 3.0 I am now using a Neptune COR 20 at 30% I have great flow but am thinking of moving it to 35% because my sps is growing and flow seems to be the key. I also have two MP10’s. As far as turning the valve. You need to make small adjustments until you figure out which was seems to increase the water height in the spillover. Then make small adjustments. I have actually replaced the stock valve with a gate valve. It’s so much better and much easier to adjust. Look up SIthRico. He has a great video on it. PVC Plumb Your RedSea Reefer. 😄😄
John’s Reef thanks will look at this, but can you remember wether you turn the valve clock wise or anti clock wise to open the valve, it seems to make no difference on my system.
Shelagh Millett if you have not taken it apart to clean it clockwise will normally raise the water and counter will lower it. The challenge is it is possible to put it in upside down which would reverse everything.
John’s Reef well I have not taken it of since we built the system on Wednesday. When we put it together we had the logo up the right way, so I assume we did it right? I tried turning it the whole way to the left and nothing seem to change even though I waiting a while. Then tried turning it all the way over to the right, still no change. The pump is running at about 50 % and it’s a Jebcod 4000.

Glad I could help. 👍

Nice video, actually looks easier that I though so I will definitely clean mine now, thanks for the video
Thanks John. Based on my search string you were the first hit on google. Easy peasy.
How do you adjust it to set it correct I've just done the maintenance but can't seem to get the water to rise anywhere near the overflow pipes
Awesome! No telling what mine looks like! Hahaha
ThAnks I’ll try that! I think I have a stupid brittle star in there
It’s very easy. 👍
Can you share please your quarterly maintenance list?
I seen something like this on instagram.... what that you?
These valves are absolute cancer!
