I ran into some financial trouble recently. I was distraught, and wondered what I was going to do. I knew I needed to read that week's Come, Follow Me, so when I opened up to section 111, and came to verse 5, when the Lord says "Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them." I knew He was telling me it was going to be okay. Since then, things have already gotten better. I'm so grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost, who teaches us truth and comforts us in ways we understand and in the moment we need Him the most.

I had the very opposite and yet same experience. My brother had served a mission in Japan. He later married a Japanese woman. Hearing them speak was fascinating so I studied Japanese in high school. Three years of it. Little surprise then when I was called to serve in Japan, Tokyo North. A little over halfway through my 10 weeks at the Missionary Training Center in Provo my assignment came into question when administrators realized I was assigned to an overseas mission and I was on prescription medication, which is problematic for practical reasons. That medication had been disclosed in my mission papers, but somehow overlooked? For a period of a week or two I didn't know where I would be serving or in what language. One day during my morning study I read a poem in a non-denominational book of Christian inspiration quotes and such. Hopefully my memory of it is accurate enough: "Father, where shall I work today?' My love flowed warm and free. He pointed me out a tiny spot, And said, 'Tend that for me.' I answered quickly, 'Oh, no, not that. Not any one would see, No matter how well my work was done. Not that little place for me!' Now when he spoke, it was not stern, He answered me tenderly, 'Little one, search that heart of thine; Art thou working for them or me? Nazareth was a little place, And so was Galilee.'" A little later that morning I was called into the MTC president's office. He explained that the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles had a special meeting and discussed my situation. I was reassigned to the New York New York North Mission, Japanese speaking. I was to help start a new Japanese language program there, as a response to the mission president's request for Japanese-speaking missionaries. My Japanese language skills from high school studies had already been surpassed by everyone in my district, but they prepared me to develop even further than most do in that time. And I had more familiarity with the people and culture than most. I had been prepared. What really brings this full-circle for me is that Elder Rasband was called as a general authority within days of my reassignment (April 2000). Up until the previous summer he had been serving as the mission president of the New York New York North Mission, where I then served and heard many wonderful stories from the older missionaries about his leadership. While I've never met him even then he had an influence on my life, and through me, others. And yet until now I had no idea he had such a similar experience to me, being assigned (in my case reassigned) to the same mission, against our own expectations but unquestionably where we were supposed to be. Thank you, Elder Rasband!
This video brought memories about the time when I was called to serve in Honduras. My brothers served in Canada and the United States (we are from Mexico), so everyone expected I was going to serve in one of those places too. I did my best to accept my calling with joy, and later in my mission I was able to serve as a medical assistant and work very closely with my Mission President and his wife (because I was good speaking English). Because of that experience, I learned the Lord always calls you where he needs you to be.
I'm glad he did. I met a woman he baptized upon guessing a random address based on a referral card. She's been a member of the Church for a long time, happily married, and even helped someone whom I taught on my own mission.
Elder Rasband's experience with personal revelation shows that the Lord loves each and everyone of us and that we, too, can recieve our own personal revelation from the Lord if we will take the time to seek and listen.
I’m grateful for these men are willing to share with us their personal life experiences with us. It shows me that they are “normal” they have problems too. They’re willing to share problems and how they changed after reaching out for Devine help with their problems from the Holy Spirit. I can reach out for Devine help as well. I’m so grateful to the Lord and Love Him so much. I really feel I, we all have a way back. To live with our Heavenly Father again. I don’t know about you. But I want to live with him again, the word Heavenly Father means so much to me. To have a Father who loves me. Brings grateful tears to me. I Love Him so much I can’t put it to words.
I love hearing the testimonies from the living Apostles! Thank you Elder Rasband for your sweet testimony of the scriptures! I love the #HearHim videos!! So simple and so powerful. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this experience. This encourages me to look to the scriptures to hear the voice of the Lord in times of disappointment and trial.
Really, I can testify that the answers we need at key moments in our life, can be received through simple random selection of verses from the Scriptures (or some other chosen source of inspiration).
Such a powerful message. I remember being called to serve and I was so certain I'd go to Japan. Of course I was called elsewhere, and it was the most impactful time in my life.
I've heard stories like Elder Rasband's, of individuals that were called to serve in areas that they didn't expect at all (especially when their hearts and minds were looking to a specific area), but I think it's very good that now, now we have a General Authority who relates his story of heeding the Lord's call, even if it didn't go the way he'd planned. I didn't have an opportunity to serve a mission, but I am grateful for the missionary and ministry fellowship experiences I *have* had.
Elder Rasband, I am so grateful for your testimony and message. I was raised back East by my converted mom and dad. We were in the Eastern States Mission and had many missionaries in our home. My mother loved the missionaries and fed them often in our home. I like to think that maybe you were one of the many. Those missionaries were a blessing to our family so new in the gospel of Jesus Christ. They fed us with their testimonies and the Spirit that they carried with them.
Thank you Elder Rasband! There have been several instances in my life when I feel like a scripture was written specifically for me, as if the Lord was speaking to me in that specific time, and I’m grateful for those moments.
What a wonderful example for us. I think it was important that Elder Rasband went to the scriptures, seeking that revelation or comfort. In our lives, we can do the same and we can be directed by the Lord. This is one example of ways that our loving Heavenly Father wants to let us know that he is there. We need to have our hearts ready to receive that revelation when we reach out. He is there, he will guide us.
Wow truly beautiful! Every time I pray, I feel my soul lighten up and the joy it brings to be able to hear him, makes this so much better thank you for sharing!
WHAT would be of us without this Church and the guidance of our leaders! I am grateful to be a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!
How to Lord tends to say the same thing to all of us, but then shows us how personal his guidance is either now or at a later time, is a wonderful example of how he's the master teacher.
Elder Rasband! A few years ago, quite a few in fact, 15 last April, Elder Nash and Yourself came to Richland Washington. I was newly converted just three months. At Elder Nash's Gospel Principles Class, I was asked if Elder Nash could "quote me" and I was soon asked following this Class to Bear My Testimony. I did but I do not remember what I said. I do remember HOW I felt, so overwhelmed, in a good way...The Spirit Embracing Me Entirely while I tried to recover from The Fernandez's Glorious Hymn. Thank YOU Elder Rasband for being in the Seeds Of My Conversion, which I look upon often and with Love. Love and Light from Zion In Washington State.
✨✨🕊 I hear Him when I hear those whom He has called to lead His Church speak - …. After many days of tension I actually exhaled when I heard your message just now. It reminded me what is most important in this life, and reminded me of things eternal, things unseen, the larger perspective. Thank you Elder Rasband 💕 for sharing such a specific beautiful experience from your personal life. I have had many sacred experiences like yours with the scriptures and the Holy Spirit giving me revelation, answering my questions and enlightening my mind with understanding of the scriptures and the knowledge of the truth. Those experiences as so special and important to me. They are written in the tablets of my heart! ♥️ They reassure and comfort my soul testify to me that Father is real! (Oh and you have inspired me to journal more notes in the Gospel Library App, I have felt a little apprehensive about it)
Thank you, elder Rasband, for sharing this. My older sister was called to Italy, my older brother and younger brother to Brazil. So I was shocked when I was called to Tennessee. It took some time to accept it, but I am continually sharing with people how it was inspired that I go there. I had experiences and confirmations to attest to it. I was meant to go to that area. It just gave me further proof that the Lord is making the calling. I am grateful I was able to serve the Lord on a mission, and I can't wait to go with my wife someday.
Thank you, Elder Rasband. Many of my ancestors lived in the Eastern States. My Belgium and Dutch ancestors arrived about 1650, along with my ancestors from the British Isles and France. Thank you for heeding the Spirit and serving in the Eastern States Mission among my kinsfolk.
I know for myself that I have been reading with a thought or question on my mind and have felt the same way as Elder Rasband. I’ve also had scriptures come very strongly to my mind as I’m praying. These are such good short videos.
I had the opportunity to serve with Elder Rasband when he was my mission President in the NY NY North mission in 1996. He continues to inspire me today.
Thank you, Elder Rasband. Your testimony invites me to listen closer to the Spirit of the Lord. Thank you for bringing me closer and for sharing you experiences.
What an amazing testimony and humbling experience. I am hoping to have more of those to help build Zion. I so long to have a place prepared for the Savior when He comes, starting with my heart.
I LOVE this!!!! Elder Rasband, this is also how I #HearHim. I receive personal revelation through my scriptures. I also keep track of them in my app. 🙏🏻💙😇
What a beautiful way the Lord testified of His work. He could have sent him to Germany perhaps but the Lord had other plans in mind, people waiting and the very own testimony of elder Rasband that knew that the Lord is leading him. Very crucial for his testimony ❤
What a beautiful testimony, Elder Rasband! I got the shivers. I've been really enjoying this How I #HearHim series! It's a good reminder that the way the Spirit primarily "speaks" to one person may be different from that of another. I'm excited to watch the rest of these videos. Thank you to all involved in the creation, etc. of these vids. Much love, Katie
My brother and father went to South America and I, too, was supposed to be called there for my mission. But I went to...... Dallas, Texas. And I hated the Dallas Cowboys!!!! My attitude didn't change like a snap, but by the time I entered the mission I was excited to serve in Texas. Two years later I cried when I left because of the experiences there.
I relate with this message greatly. Every single male and almost every woman in my immediate and fathers extended family served missions all over the world, from culiacan mexico to moscow russia. I had had a rough medical history, and worked hard to get to a place where I felt I was ready to serve. On my papers I wrote I'd love to serve in Ghana or somewhere far far away. But at the end I also added that I knew the Lord knew better than I, and I would be happy with where ever I was called, even if state side. Well, it came and I was called to a service mission. Based out of my own home. I was distraught, more so than I had ever been before. However, after a good cry, I turned to prayer and scripture study. I found my answer in the second great commandment. To love thy neighbor. And here I was, with my literal neighbor very close. It wasn't to where I was called it was to whom I was called to. I'm still out now, and have seen many miracles and good things happen that would not have happened if I had not been called to serve.
I was reading the Book of Mormon, and was pondering about what the meaning of the name Israel, I searched in both languages Arabic and English,2 hours later the prophet Russel M Nelson in general conference said he wondered also and searched and found out it mean Let God Prevail. His talk has the same name. Brother and sister if you want to prevail let God prevail in your life and be of Israel.
I'm grateful for scriptures that open up other venues for me to receive revelation. Reading God's word throughout my life has blessed me immeasurably, and without such books as the Holy Bible and The Book of Mormon I would have been lost as a youth. Thank God for modern day prophets who continue to guide and direct us, God's children, through these latter-days of strife and turmoil!
Missionary work is a wonderful experience for all of our missionaries; at the age of 63, I went to the Alabama mission; it was a really wonderful experience! I loved being able to do that, too! It blessed my life with many sacred experiences which truly blessed me and gave me many sacred experiences, which I still love and enjoy!
D&C has been a delight for me this year, our family has struggled with many challenges and each week it feels like Come Follow Me was especially designed to help us navigate our decisions. It is no coincidence, just the divine hand of God. We are so grateful for the power of the scriptures in our lives!
I asked my seminary students this week to suggest topics for an upcoming flex teaching day. One student asked: "how do I know if serving a mission is right for me?" I will use this video to start our discussion. Thank you, Elder Rasband, for helping us learn to hear the voice of the Lord through your experience.
Great story Brother Rasband. Thank you so much for sharing. Heavenly Father is the one that knows and sends the Missionaries to share the gospel with all our brothers and sisters, no matter what race, color, and what we look like Heavenly Father loves us all the same. God bless you all. 😇🙏
Awesome message! Simple principles, but so powerful - that connection to heaven through seeking via study and prayer and then being receptive and humble to receive by the spirit. That joy and the power to move our hearts and minds is so real.
This blessed me. I forget sometimes but I felt the spirit and remembered I moved to Iowa one time as a younger person and had concerns about my choice and I opened the scriptures and I not by chance read a scripture in the doctrine and covenants that was for me. I the Lord an not displeased with your coming here etc (you something like that) is what I read.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was amazed when you shared D&C 100:3-4, because those are the exact scriptures the Lord led me to on my mission when I was reassigned to one of the eastern states due to Covid. God really does speak to us through the scriptures. ❤️
That's so cool! I love stories like these where Heavenly Father blesses us by letting us know He is aware of us individually and sends us what we need! I've had many such experiences and they are treasures to me!
This was such a cool experience to hear about. I had almost the EXACT experience that Elder Rasband had. My dad served in Austria, my older brother in Germany, so I had the thought that Europe and German speaking was where I needed to go. I opened my mission call, and found I was to serve in the Connecticut Hartford mission. I too went to the scriptures, and opened RANDOMLY to D&C 99:1-3, which calls an elder to the eastern countries, and announces blessings for his service. This hit me so hard as I knew that I had been guided to this scripture in search of an answer if Connecticut was where I was needed. It also gave me the confirmation I needed to serve with all I had, every day, for those best 2 years. I know that Heavenly Father answers prayers, even through the wonderful scriptures that He has blessed us with in these times. He knows our inner-most thoughts, concerns, and desires of our hearts. He seeks to bless us when we search and look for truth, answers, or guidance. For those that ask, God will grant peace, answers, and comfort in times of need.
Thank you for sharing your story. Like your experience, so many times the scriptures have answered my prayers. I pray you are continually blessed and protected by His holy and royal army.
I had a dream that Hinckley called me to Germany. I was the first to serve a mission in my family. Went to St Louis just as the temple was ready to open. I was glad to get the call. Jefferson City MO, Alton IL, Salem IL, St Louis, St Peters MO. Actually married and moved back to MO from CA. Living in TX now
I see we all have a few problems recognizing Revelation and inspiration from the Lord. Thanks for sharing those great words of wisdom. It's funny some people say, I prayed but never received a answer. Most of the time it's because we haven't recognized what the Lord has sent our way.
My mom and dad both served in Austria and speak German. I took 4 years of German in high school and fully expected to get called there. Then I got my call to Brazil! I wouldn't have had it any other way.
So interesting and relevant. I too have had the scriptures speak to me recently concerning issues at work at home and personally. They have spoken to me in a way that I would never have gotten from any other source. I didn't think of it as revelation but after watching this video, I have come to realize that these messages and thoughts I have had are in fact personal revelation from God. Thank you for your words that have given me a better understanding of revelation, how it may come and how to accept it.
Thank you Elder Rasband for your message. I had an experience where the Lord spoke to me through the scriptures. I was going through a difficult trial in my life. I had gone to the Temple to feel closer to the Lord and prayed for peace and comfort. I prayed; Dear Lord are you there? Am I going to be ok? Then I asked if he would speak to me through the scriptures. I decided to let the scriptures open randomly to a scripture. I felt the Lord answered my prayer in such a beautiful way! So you know the story where Jesus walked upon the waters in the storm towards the disciples?First they thought it was a spirit but when the Savior came closer they recognized him. Jesus said; “ Be of good Cheer. It is I” Then when the scriptures 📖lay open and I looked down I started crying it said; “ Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you;“ My heart ❤️ was so touched I couldn’t believe it. The Lord spoke to me so clearly. I felt so loved at that moment that I promised to never question or doubt the Lord again. I can testify He is in the details of our lives and Loves us so dearly.
I love it when revelation comes quickly and simply. Learning to recognize when you receive revelation is huge- then you receive more and more. Cool how that works, huh?
Okay, I'll share. I moved to England when I was 11, went through their school system, took my GCSEs then a year of 6th form. After another year, having just turned 18, I was old enough to go on a mission. (Back then most missionaries had to be 19 to serve, but British young men could go at 18 because of how much earlier they finish school). So October 3, 1990, I entered the MTC, weighing in at 130 lbs and enthusiastic about...everything! My companion was much older (24?), a tall, muscular (I think he played college football) grown man. We were opposites in many ways. In our classes I was almost always exuberant. My companion was subdued. One night before bed he told me that I was extremely immature and not cut out to be an ambassador for the Lord. His words struck me forcefully. I remember not being able to sleep for quite some time, laying there, sad and worried that he was right. Finally I crawled out of bed and knelt down and asked my Heavenly Father about it. Almost immediately I experienced something singularly wonderful. A voice in my mind said, "Get up and read Jeremiah." First I thought, "Jeremiah is a huge book, which chapter?" There was no further direction so I sat at my little desk, turned on the lamp, opened my green-bound quad and began in chapter 1. My answer was in verses 6-9. Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord. Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. From that moment I stopped worrying about what my companion thought and served with full purpose of heart. God lives, he is our perfect a deeply loving Father. He hears and answers prayers. When necessary He does so immediately and often with messages He's previously delivered to other great men and women.
That same scripture helped me 9 years ago. Athens, Texas was to be our new home. Another scripture from the Book of Mormon reminded me it was a Land of Promise.
I ran into some financial trouble recently. I was distraught, and wondered what I was going to do. I knew I needed to read that week's Come, Follow Me, so when I opened up to section 111, and came to verse 5, when the Lord says "Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them." What an amazing experience that must have been. I’m headed to the Washington Seattle mission soon. I start the mtc in 4 days.
We love you Elder Rasband, your love and humility of others is a great lesson to me. Thank you for your Apostleship to the Lord. Stay safe.
Thank you Elder Ballard for a amazing testimony and powerful scriptures 💟
I LOVE this!!!! Elder Rasband, this is also how I #HearHim. I receive personal revelation through my scriptures. I also keep track of them in my app. 🙏🏻💙😇
THAT'S AMAZING.AND YOU RECEIVE THAT REVELATION AS A BLESSING FROM THE HOLY GHOST.
Much love,
Katie
Thank you for watching!
So beautiful how the lord works to lead us and guide us when we need his help. Thank you for sharing
Thank you for this beautiful message Elder Rasband :) May God Almighty bless you in your service towards the church and the members within it.
Thank you Elder Rasband for that great testimony!
Aww, this is so beautiful Bro Rasband thank you for sharing. It's personal and beautiful how the Lord speaks to us ♥️
Praise the lord 🙏🙏.....
What a wonderful inspirational message to recognize that we can receive revelation in the same way apostles of the Lord do.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I was amazed when you shared D&C 100:3-4, because those are the exact scriptures the Lord led me to on my mission when I was reassigned to one of the eastern states due to Covid. God really does speak to us through the scriptures. ❤️
Thank you,bless you,love and light🙏🙏🙏
I love this! Thanks for sharing your personal experience. It is touching!
scriptures often take on a whole new meaning through personal revalation.
Now that's hearing Ang getting conformation that the Lord was speaking to him through the SPIRIT
Thank you, Godbls 🙏😍
Thank you Elder Rasband..you touched my heart & spirit in a very special way 💖🙏
That's so cool!
Thank you Elder Rasband I too have always turned off my prompting still small voice Revelations
Obrigado por compartilhar Élder Rasband
Thank you for sharing your story. Like your experience, so many times the scriptures have answered my prayers.
I pray you are continually blessed and protected by His holy and royal army.
Aww I love JESUS AND THE LORD!
This scripture always reminds me of my mission area in Quebec Canada.
Simply powerful. That's humbling. 🙏
Thank you, Elder Rasband!
Amazing!!! I’m so excited to serve a mission but nervous at the same time!
It is I”
Then when the scriptures 📖lay open and I looked down I started crying it said;
“ Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you;“ My heart ❤️ was so touched
I couldn’t believe it.
And then The Lord called him to be Mission President in New York!
Very Touching. Thank you for your Testimony.
The inspiring messages to live by
Pure revelation thought the scriptures!!!
A voice in my mind said, "Get up and read Jeremiah."
First I thought, "Jeremiah is a huge book, which chapter?" There was no further direction so I sat at my little desk, turned on the lamp, opened my green-bound quad and began in chapter 1.
Thanks Elder Rasband!
Men yes I agree
Thank you
That same scripture helped me 9 years ago. Athens, Texas was to be our new home. Another scripture from the Book of Mormon reminded me it was a Land of Promise.
I went to mision Peru-Huancayo, and the lord always talk to me with the scriptures.
Beautiful!
Amen.
