It makes me happy others, like your grandfather, put the gifts of great music in your hands to keep it safe and alive. My solemn regards to your grandpa, my best wishes to you.
I remember my dad gave me this record on my 18th birthday. It was like a right of passage in his eyes, and I understood after listening. Listening to this record for the first time, with dear old dad next to me, it felt like I was sitting there with his 18yo self. Unreal feeling.
Can remember seeing these guys in the 70s at the Akron Civic theater Friday, Saturday, Sunday night tickets were 3dollars good old days! never forget Ken Hensley s keyboards
That voice! Never to be matched again in Rock. I first heard Byron sing this song when I was very young and I was mesmerised from the first note. I learnt to sing rock by listening to Byron's vocals. I admire Hensley's incredible songwriting - numbers that were scaled for a big Rock sound and that mean something. Today I am old and the memories of covering some of their songs are pure gold. This is the greatest rock band of all time.
We’re you with us back in those days? I was a teenager. It was magical. The music. It took us places. It was never supposed to end, but sadly, it did. We grew old. Some have gone on. But every time I pause and listen once again to the music, I hear the Wizard. Somewhere in the recess of our spirit, he still lives. If you weren’t there, I’m sorry for you. It was spiritual. Long live the Wizard.
Most of us will never know that kind of suppression. We took it for granted and complained when our beer was warm. I am glad you could enjoy it and I hope you and all those who suffered are doing well.

Great song from a great album. The dancer in red @ 1:45 in the clip reminds me of a lass in Birmingham from the days when this record was released. The best of times...
Ahhh......The 70's. A time when our clothing was highly flammable (polyester), Barber shops and hair salons were dropping like flies, every home had ONE (1) phone and it was bolted to the kitchen wall. Socializing wasn't a solitary event, the best memories could be made walking a few blocks down the street and no matter where you went, the sound track to our young lives was always being recorded. Music EVERYWHERE!! And MY personal favorite..... I was dating the son of a preacher, who was probably the biggest stoner in the neighborhood:) (The son, not the preacher) LOL. Looking back now, even the bad times were good.
My boyfriend taught me this song in 1979, before I'd ever heard it on an album or radio. He needed me to sing the harmony for him when he performed it on stage. I sang what I thought sounded best with it. Later, when I heard the original, I was amazed! I had nailed the harmony vocals right on the money! Pretty cool.
@@laurenceaholland Apart from the bass player, I think they all sung pretty well in harmony. Ken Hensley matched with David Byron's vocals. Like counter-tenors!

@@FirCorred No, sorry, I just love the aura of a lot of Uriah Heep's music. Especially the early albums through Sweet Freedom. But I will tell you who is a phenom lover of science fiction, lead singer Eric Bloom of Blue Oyster Cult. I am sure he knows and loves Tanith if you say she is special. He uses science fiction writers for a number of their lyrics. You want to talk about another hard rock phenom along with Uriah (where the critics and a majority of hard rock fans missed the boat), listen to the album "Secret Treaties" alone.
@@jehanne8610 yes, it shows in the underrated song The Old Gods Return. I guessed you like Tanith Lee cause Jehanne is a recurrent name in her work, especially in the Books Of Paradys. She's not bad, her Vis Cronicles are among the Million Favored Ones (:
I grew up with so many excellent bands. Uriah heep toured with Deep Purple their concerts were magical. I still love this tune for what the song tells us! Thankful to grow up with the best music I still listen to today! Never grow up!
When I got out of the navy in 1974, I fell in love with Uriah help. Got to see them at least twice. I have always kept albums, then tapes, and now at 69, I still have demons and wizards, magicians birthday, and sweet freedom cds. My first band has followed me through my life. Loved this video!

Saw them in 1972,1973 and again in 2024. One of the few groups that have spand over 50 years. Mick Box is still going as strong as in times past. His hair has just changed color over the years. It is a crime that they have not been inducted in the rock in roll hall of fame. It's beyond a mystery to me. I sure hope that before I'm gone, I can see this occur. I loved them so much that I got the Chrome shells of the Slingerland drums just like Lee Kerslake had. Still have them to this day. Thank you Uriah Heep for your wonderful music that helped me make some treasured memories along my life.
I'm 65 still feels like I'm always hearing thier stuff for the first time never gets old Never understood how they didn't get the recognition they deserved every bit as good if not better than Deep Purple and Rainbow David's vocals were as good as anyone and the harmonies incredible ❤
I discovered this lp in my mother's collection when I was 14. Never gave it back and still have i. Back then I discovered that it glows dark green under a black light. ? Hope these guys still play. There a high priority pond jumping bucket list item.
this is so freaking cool! never heard of that glowing effect -- is this a U.S. pressing of the LP? and yes, i believe Uriah Heep still plays, but not this "classic" line-up -- only original member is Mick Vox -- the others had left the band and sadly, have passed away over the years
In 1973 , I was living in Miami Fl. . I was in the 5th -6th grade . My new friend that I just met talked me into skipping school after lunch.... and got to his house to check out this band.... "Uriah heep" he said they were great. With a "J" in my pocket , I took him up on it . The 1st UH. album we listened to was "Demons and Wizards" . My new friend Steve , he played a Gibson SG guitar . He played every note as we listened .Next was " The Magians birthday " , by then we were "felling fine" and the music fit perfect ! This was a little different music .The back-ground vocals and Hammond organ. Just grabbed me , I've met people that HATE HEEP ?????? I was a BIG Beatles and Stones fan . So I always dug good music .Also around the early 70's Zepp , Sabbath , Purple were also in my ear . Well then Steve, still with guitar in hands.. put "U.H. Live 73" on the turntable and that just hooked me .WOW. At the age of 26years , I was on a date with a Girl who would end-up to be my wife.....well we were holding each other and I was humming the song "Sunrise" , she started to sing the words . When I told her It was my favorite band, she said it was one of hers too. As time went by she is a WONDERFUL Women ,Mother. I knew she was the girl for me. We raised 4 children ....they were brought -up on the music . It goes on and on . Sooooooo much more I could tell of the influence ,of this band and not just musically . I'm around 60 years old and HEEP is a everyday thing.... It is the sound track of my life .Through the good and bad times , some HEEP song will pop in my head and carry me. I lost contact with Steve ...in or around 1980 . I'm sure he is still jamming with his guitar to some CLASSIC ROCK music . I was lucky to grow up with some of the greatest music ever made . Uriah Heep is my band , i have met most of the band / past and present ,autograph's pictures , books ,tee shirts .THEY ARE IN MY SOUL . R.I.P. Ken Hensley ,Lee Kerslake ,John Wetton , Trevor Bolder, David Byron , Gary Thain . Peace , Love .
My entire childhood was restricted from music. Upon graduation I discovered Uriah Heep among others. What a revelation. I continue on "a journey of a thousand years."
I can relate. My mom tossed my Kiss Records, and a few others. (one of the reasons that I'm, ah, "traumatized" by organized religions. - I did have some Uriah Heep tapes in my inventory at one time.
***** I think most of us did things like that. Funny thing was, I could still listen to the radio, and tape things off of it, if I had wanted to, or make tapes, without really any name attached to the tape.
...from the album Demons and Wizards. Truly one of the greatest collections of glam rock. Brings me back to those innocent days. This entire album was magnificent. Circle of Hands was also an unbelievable song. Poetry and Heep's sound was fantastic. Their follow up album the Magicians Birthday was also incredible. Unfortunately I never saw them in concert. RIP Guys. You made this child of the 60's and 70's very happy with your music. Thank you !!
I saw them live on Cape Cod '73 (?). They were acoustically perfect. Clean, crystally clear, great tone. Just awesome. Opening act was Earth Wind and Fire.

🗣 This is one of the most beautiful songs of the legendary group U.H. From the best period of *ROK* music, their 5 first released albums remained unforgettable .
I was turned on to the Heep in the early 70's in Miami. A girlfriend of mine married a musician and I'd spend everything weekend at their house listening to the band rehearse. Theyplayed Heep songs more than anything else. After that I bought all the Heep albums. Demons and Wizards was my fav. Oh what memories. Our generation had the best damn music

He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man, kind of feeling fine
He had a cloak of gold and eyes of fire
And as he spoke, I felt a deep desire
To free the world of it's fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again
Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts
'Cause then I know we'd find we're not so far apart
Everybody's got to be happy, everyone should sing
For we know the joy of life, the peace that love can bring
So spoke the wizard, in his mountain home

My father passed away recently.. this was his absolute favorite song. Good memories with him.
This song never gets old
my brother died last summer and this was his favorite too...he was only 64 🕊️
Just fantastic.
First saw them in Germany 1970 awesome
70s was awesome. between the 60s and the 70s we were witness to the greatest music ever.
Robert Eller 80s were different but still great. Decline arrived in the late 90s and continues to this day.
Led Zeppelin performed in 2007. As good as it gets.
vietnam
Starduster93 agreed unless you listen to metal, times are good 🤘
-and then came a flock of seagulls..
When I got out of the navy in 1974, I fell in love with Uriah help. Got to see them at least twice. I have always kept albums, then tapes, and now at 69, I still have demons and wizards, magicians birthday, and sweet freedom cds. My first band has followed me through my life. Loved this video!
He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales, and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man kinda feelin' fine
He had a cloak of gold and eyes of fire
And as he spoke, I felt a deep desire
To free the world from it's fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again
Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts
'Cause then I know we'd find that we're not so far apart
+Sonia Mota Really, Captain Obvious? We can hear the lyrics...
+Andy C Don't read them and mind your own business.
+Sonia Mota You kids get along now, acting like bunch of 5 year olds.
+jason75 you are awesome! :) thank you xx
+Sonia Mota Thanks for the lyrics!
How in the fuck can there be 1500 people that dont like this greatness?
They don't know any better. They probably like most of the shit music out now.Regards.
My high school years were spent listening to this incredible band. They never get old
I’m 70-Still have this album love these guys
Never gets old...I can close my eyes and go back into my memory of great 🎶...✌️♥️🎶
R.I.P. Ken Hensley 1945-2020. One of my favorite artists/people in the world! Been following him and his groups since the '70s.🥀💔🌹🎸🎹🎤
I was introduced to them at an early age,- 12 yrs old. I'm 62 now and still love them!
How times flies my friend. I was 11 back then. Now I am 61. Still have the LP with me. Cheers!
Let's never forget what a BEAST of a bass player Mr. Gary Thain was!!!
David Byron a monster of rock voices!
For me, He and mr. Ian Anderson are the best!
Oh Yes true, he Was fantastic
Spot on Fabio.... Spot on
Yes, David Byron one of the greatest rock vocalists, and with the English theatrical flourish.
Completely agree!!
I'm 65 still feels like I'm always hearing thier stuff for the first time never gets old
Never understood how they didn't get the recognition they deserved every bit as good if not better than Deep Purple and Rainbow David's vocals were as good as anyone and the harmonies incredible ❤
We need that magician now more than ever - this song has stood by us since its inception
My favorites. Best music.
Uriah Heep has always had the most kick ass vocalists and bass players. Everyone in the entire band has always been phenomenal.
Remember the kick ass blotter back then??
Uriah Heep at their best, with the best line-up!
Me and my magic man in our mountain home, freedom and peace be with us all.
I discovered this lp in my mother's collection when I was 14. Never gave it back and still have i. Back then I discovered that it glows dark green under a black light. ? Hope these guys still play. There a high priority pond jumping bucket list item.
this is so freaking cool! never heard of that glowing effect -- is this a U.S. pressing of the LP? and yes, i believe Uriah Heep still plays, but not this "classic" line-up -- only original member is Mick Vox -- the others had left the band and sadly, have passed away over the years
My dad past away 4 years ago and this song was one of his favorites, I think of him every time I hear this
In 1973 , I was living in Miami Fl.
Great story
My favorite song, incredible album. Thank you!!
This takes me back to my first boyfriend,my “toots” Uriah Heep was our band! Love my 70’s! 💋
One of the greatest songs ever written that is simply about finding yourself , channeling your inner wizard

Love it that Mick Box still keep the Uriah Heep music alive after losing so many bandmates, feels little sad
Rip Ken, David, Gary and Lee.
Great song , great band, Perth Australia 🇦🇺
My 70 hippie music... if only we could really abide
***** Yea, if you knew what was playing on an Album Hour, you could grab a great record on the cheap.
...from the album Demons and Wizards.
Their best album and one of the very best from 1972, when so many classic albums were released.
My first concert Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Buddy Miles 1970 Bloomington Sports Center now the Mall of Americas Bloomington Minnesota 💜🎤🎸🥁💯
He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales, and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man kinda feelin' fine
He had a cloak of gold and eyes of fire
And as he spoke, I felt a deep desire
To free the world from its fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again
Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts
'Cause then I know we'd find that we're not so far apart
Everybody's got to be happy, everyone should sing
For we know the joy of life, the peace that love can bring
So spoke the wizard in his mountain home
The vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone
And I will dream of my magic night
And the million silver stars that guide me with their light
Thanks!
thanks

Such a magical song
Heep is one of the most under rated bands of the era. Im 62 and still listen to them. ❤
I grew up in the era, I remember the group, the album, and the song, and I sing it today, awesome!!!!
Thank you to my brother to introducing me to this group...love all their songs!!
I saw the Heep perform on 3 occasions in the 70's and imo they are the most under appreciated band of the era
Music before my time was so much better. I'm 39 but I grew up listening to this and many others that i love.
Beautiful song lyrics relevant today more than ever
Loved this band. One of the best!
