Using swedish herding call "kulning" to call home escaping cows

- Yesterday (3 july) the cows in our village escaped out of their fence, and were on the way of of the village to the woods. For the first time in my life I really got use for the "kulning", the ancient swedish herding call that were used long time ago to call in the cows. It really did work! They turned around to listen, and then they came running the right way towards me. With help from my mom we managed to get them into another cow pen. I can't describe what a wonderful feeling it was to see the cows following my song. Kulning really works and I will continue to learn this ancient voice techique. Especially now when I could help my neighbour to stop the cows from running into the woods.

Sometimes you see things on the internet and it gives you this feeling, like you're supposed to know more about it, and it gives you this feeling of disconnect from your supposed culture. I'd love to learn Kulning and live a simpler life

If I had a place I would teach myself it’s beautiful and it does call to the soul!
Trust me, living a farmer life isn't any simpler than most of the jobs, and usualy takes up more of your time than regular "8 hours shift".
It's rewarding tho, at least for me, and for people like me that takes pride in feeding the world.

Then you should have heard 14 singer, cow horn and birch trumpet(?) players around a small lake in the woods at summer night.
The concert was during one and a half hour, and then sang and played from 7 different spots around the lake.
That was magic...
(During Falu Folkmusic Festival, which is no more, to sad to say. It was there I head a concert with Taiko drums, which also was magic, in another way. And there I learned to play Swedish Bagpipes)
Are the acoustics in Sweden that amazing? I'm gonna move there just so I can sing all day long with that beautiful echo.
You might want to look into the Sweden thing a bit more, avoid the cities. Its not like it should be.

When you got some distance away, and the echo got more intense, the sound made me envision you as a hulder or something like a forest siren. I'm definitely going to head out to the car pastures near my town and try this out, because it not only looks cool but made me feel really at peace listening.

Each time I see Jonna Jinton's videos I'm so amazed by her beautiful voice! It's really one of the most beautiful voices I'd ever heard, really lovely and rare, and divine! And she knows perfectly well how to use it. This kulning is timeless and it's mystic and magical. I have heard singing like that by dawn in the mountain, so far and then so near, and there was no one there. I think it was an eckhoe from ancient times...
I'm impressed she was making that noise without an instrument. It's very musical.

We have something similar, but in my country the song is only performed by men. The song is more of a african tribal chant that farmers use to seng messages to their cow or sacred cows. Thank you for sharing this rare tradition.

I use the same timbre to call my cat sometimes. I use higher, more kitten-like pitch more often, though. Makes her less claw-happy.

I really want to try this technique of calling some cows when I have a chance to do it, to conquer my fears of them whenever i saw them crossing my path going somewhere to unwind in a farm.

I do something similar when it's time for my Chihuahua to come inside. He comes when i call every time.
My swedish grandmother used to do this with our milk cows.
