    My guy, The Wire has some of the most sophisticated storytelling in tv history. Due, in part, to the show runner having been a journalist in Baltimore. Season 2 is definitely a lull but it pays off structurally. It’s not some popcorn marvel bs, it is complex and beautifully human. Give it a proper crack

    Don't beat yourself up. There are plenty of prestige shows I couldn't get into, either. I didn't have HBO during The Wire, but I just couldn't get into The Sopranos (I get that James Gandolfini is a great actor, but the character just annoyed me) or Breaking Bad.

      @@wavehellhole americans would like the wire more than people from europe. It focuses on inner city gang life and drug dealing in Baltimore. You get POV from the drug dealers/thugs, law enforcement and city and state political figures. They all tie together. The writing is unbeatable. Very violent too.

      Season 2 is great on rewatches. I think the shock of the change of setting is a big part of why it's so off putting on first viewing

    • @TheRealAhoy
      @TheRealAhoy Месяц назад

      Season 2 is a fine wine. The first time you watch and season 2 is the way it is, it's a shock to the system, such a pivot. But it's actually great in the grand scheme of things and is like it's own little thing that has it's own merits to it.
