Leslie Nielsen was known as a dramatic actor for a couple of decades before 1980. He was cast in Airplane becauae having a serious actor deliver those silly lines made them even funnier. But it turned out that he had a knack for comedy, and that's what he's been famous for ever since.

You guys aren't recognizing the _Seinfeld_ actors. The AAMCO mechanic @6:02 was Rudy, the guy who owned the vintage clothing store. George sold him boxes of his dad's cruise wear (his cabana vacation t-shirts) to Rudy which had moths nesting in it. And in the same episode, Kramer and Jerry's dad tried to sell him the raincoats ("the executive", the beltless trench-coat Jerry's dad invented).
