In this video, I'll show you step-by-step how to knit a tote bag using a circular knitting machine. This is a great knitting machine pattern for beginners, because it's fairly simple. You knit the tote in 2 pieces, and then fold and seam them together.
I love this project because you can knit the project up in one night, and have a new bag to wear the next day! Both pieces are made on a 48 needle Sentro knitting machine. All supplies are linked below. This is a quick and easy knitting pattern, using acrylic, medium 4 weight yarn.
For a closer look on how to seam the edges of the tube, please watch this video:

No need to apologize for your "ramblings" - I love hearing them. In fact, I feel I'm talking to a friend when you share your thoughts. And not only a friend, but a kitting maven as well.
I loved making this! I also sized down the pattern to make small ones on my 32 needle machine tonight for my daughters they are adorable
Great video. Thanks much!
once again Diane - you are plowing new ground. I think I would see lining this and even adding a leather strap and making it a Crossbody for shopping. Yum!
Aww thank you!! And YES I actually forgot to mention in the video that if anyone sews, I'd love to see how it looks like a sewed lining! If you make it please let me know how it looks!!
Just to remember the key moments as beginner:
1:09 cast on; thread onto white tooth and then alternative brown tooth
1:17 put the thread into the tensioner after this; 5 rows
[for this project, throw a lot severl feet of main colour yarn into the centre]
1:31 put the main colour thread into next the white teeth (and hold both thread with the main colour in the tensioner)
[for this project, 110 rows and then another several feets of main colour]
[get the extra tube away from the table]
1:48 Do the case-off using waste yarn
I always get confused by beginning on the white needle as the first dark needle is numbered 1
I like that
Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I have made two so far. I added some polyester batting inside the handle before crocheting close the second side, it feels great on my arm. I also added a large button where you put your tag, and made a rectangle with loop in order to close the bag when I am out, to avoid pickpockets at our market. I love these fabulously soft bags, and nnay now try your larger version. Thanks again. ❤
Sounds really awesome. Do you have a picture to share?
I do but I don't know how to add it into this text. I'm not on social media either.
@@lisagregory8303 Okay, thank you!
This is genius. I can't wait to make this. Saving.
I have to give this a try!! I have visions of small project bags dancing in my head. Lol
Ah hahaha, I just discovered stop animation and now I want to animate everything I make! ;)
Great job once again! I look forward to making some of these this summer. Thank you!

LOVE this bag!!! Question: where to buy the clasps for this and other tote bags? Thank you!
How do I adjust the number of rows for a sentro 40 peg machine..
I love this pattern, many thanks for sharing. I am having trouble getting my hands on this wool. it is very expensive to ship it to Ireland. Can you reccommend another type of wool/substitute? Many thanks.
Love the bag. Would love to make it. How would I make it taller? Top to bottom and if I did make it taller would it also make it wider?
how can i adjust this to work with a 40 needle machine pretty please? amazing tutorial
I love your designs and learning how to make new things with my knitting machine. My only critique is that I wish you spoke a bit slower and slowed down on some of the explanations. Super cute nag
Beautiful!! How many rows would be needed if making it on the 32?
I made the rectangle but when I fold it, 1 side is too long like it had too many rows but I did the 115 like the video said.
Wowww.. Thank u for sharing. Actually I have made this but by sewing cloth never though that could be knit specially using knitting machine it's really inspire me since I'm newbies trying the knitting machine 😁. May I know the size of your tag u are using?
Any way to make this bag a bit longer? Loved making the smaller one
Hi I'm using a 48 peg machine
In following your instructions for 220 rows it makes the bag very big .could I cut this down to 180 and still get the dimensions correct .many thanks
😍😍😍😍💕💕💕💕
Any slower videos of the corner and handle attachment? That part was too quick and on multiple replays I’m struggling to attach it nicely
How do you think it would be with 2 colors?
I would love to know which TeX used to make your pieces, because I am from🇧🇷 and here has several Tex, I see that it is a little thick the wool🧶🤗❤️Tks
Hi! I use "Loops & Threads" Impeccable yarn from Michaels, it is a Weight 4 medium yarn. I hope that helps!
I’m wondering how I could make the strap longer ?
I'm actually working on another pattern coming soon that will have a longer strap :) stay tuned!
Do you make stickers or buy them, I want a reply please
Where’s the link to seam the tube? I’m so lost on seaming. I can’t even see how you seam it 🥺😢
Where do I find the small and medium size?
Can you also make a string bag using a knitting machine?
I've never tried it before but I'll try to investigate and see if I can come up with something!
Is there any way to make this a touch deeper? My brain is having a hard time wrapping around how 😅
Do you mean longer (top to bottom)? Or deeper (front to back?)
Do you have the close up video of crocheting the tube closed? You mentioned it you'd like in description but it isn't there. TIA!
Oops I need to add the link! Here it is: ruclips.net/video/79ALfpHop5U/видео.html
@@DianaLevineKnits Thank you so much! Making these for admin professional day as gifts :)
Oh I love that!! Will you tag me on Instagram when they are done so I can share in my stories? It’s so fun seeing what color combos people are coming up with! @dianalevineknits on insta
Hi,if i have an addi machine with 46 hook, how many rows i have to do? Thank you
Hi! I haven't tried it with the 46 needle yet, but the important part is that the dimensions are the same. I actually ordered an Addi but it won't arrive for a few weeks - when I get it, I'll make it on the Addi and report back!
@@DianaLevineKnits thank you!!!
How many inches will it be once your done making it on the machine? I don't have a counter on mine so I was wanting to know
The video includes the length!
Ok thanks
@@brandiwilcox1403 it's at 3:10
I just realized my machine is a 40 pin I did the pattern and put it together it just looks funny maybe I need to make two of the same length
If a 40 pin is 5/6 narrower than a 48 pin, then you can roughly keep proportions by having the tube length be 5/6 too, making a 1/6 smaller bag though.
Hi! I yust made this and the first tube ( the body ) is way to large
Your tension can cause this...
Where do I find the tutorial for how to seem tube?
Sorry I forgot to add the link! Will add that now. Here's the video that shows it's closer: ruclips.net/video/79ALfpHop5U/видео.html
Thanks I'm a complete beginner only made 2 beanie so far but If I can convince my machine to work with me hopefully I can work this out😊
@@prayer4blessingsau oh I bet you can do it!! It's not that much different than making a headband, just a couple of extra steps. Let me know if you have any questions!
