My Father passed away last night. These guys were his favourite, it was the soundtrack to my childhood. I'm playing this song in particular at his funeral. I don't even know why I'm writing this. This song is just so good and fitting for the man that raised me Edit: thank you all for your lovely comments, they mean a lot. We played this as my Fathers casket exited the building. It was a lovely day
OMG dancing in a field with these guys performing in the old days was the highlight of my life. I love you wonderful people I danced with. We knew back then how it would roll. People actually talked about animal rights back then too.
They "host" the Beautiful Days Festival at Escot Park in Devon every year. Still playing, if you want to dance around in a field to them! (16-18 August 2024 for the next one.)
My sister has just passed away and I've got such fond memories of her taking me to see The Levellers, it was an amazing gig, this song reminds me so much of her and her free spirit💜
@@MrMowzy I'm so sorry to hear that, it is an unspeakable loss, it will the one year anniversary since we lost her in 2 days time and honestly, I think the pain just gets worse over time as you miss them more and the reality of life without them kicks in!

1993 Glastonbury as a soldier made me criticise my own choices .. but made me stand fast . Be a better man . Love this album . ❤ one way of life . No judgement do the best you can
The guy scrawling the anarchy symbol on the wall at 2:09 is my dad's mate Andrew. They were squatting in Brixton at the time, and I have no idea why he's in this video. He might have known one of the camera guys? Not fully sure. Really nice bloke though, and it's always great coming back to this video to see him as well as hear the song!
Thats me! I was the (unofficial) art director and when filming had finished they realised they'd had forgotten to film that bit, so I did it. It did come quite naturally. I was one of the camera guys as well (the super 8 bits) and had a hand in all parts of the video apart from the editing. We both knew the Levellers pretty well and I organised them to play a fundraiser for the Advisory Service for Squatters collective. whos your dad? nice to know Im appreciated still
When my mother died unexpectedly my dad said to me in the middle of his grief,at least the song is easy..... this one. She loved this band and followed everything they did.
Seen many live concerts but always rate this group as the best we've seen, always fun. Played this as we walked from the registry office, a 2 fingered salute to those who said it would never work, celebrated our 15 Wedding anniversary last month, been together 30 years sound track to our life
And you are very correct History isn’t taught these days, in fact nothing of any significance or importance is taught in school other than English, Maths and maybe Science. Life is the best lesson we ever take, reading books is the best way we can learn.
I heard this song at a really low point in my life, about 20 years ago. I was transfixed by the music, but especially the lyrics. I truly took them to heart, and it was the beginning of digging myself out of the hole I’d created. This band INSPIRED me; I will always be grateful for this song!!!
The levellers are the sound track to my life. I saw them first in 1989 but was truly smitten on a long van ride in the early 90's, thanks to wilson and chuff and a stereo and a tape of Weapon Called the Word and Levelling the land. I am now staring 50 in the face and I can still say that One Way and levelling the land are my favourite song and album of all time. Even now, if the ipod on shuffle throws up a levellers track, I find myself shouting along in the van. If you haven't seen them live then you have to do so; it's what they do best, Long Live the Levellers. It's the track for my funeral ....
I saw them completely by accident at the Isle of Wight Festival 2013 - a fantastic accident! Me and my friend met them afterwards and got their autographs, now I love them - the must honest, kindest and humble guys I've ever met...
Took great inspiration from this song many years ago and did live my life in my own way and still do . Never went with the accepted approved normal life , never gave up motorcycles, music and independence .I hope they play this song on my final journey .
I lived in Brighton in 1991/92. These guys were huge there at the time. I bought A Weapon Called The Word, and then Levelling The Land when it came out. I also saw them play a couple of times and met them briefly once at a Pizza place. Then I came back to Australia and all my friends were going on about some band I'd never heared of called Nirvana. I told them the Levellers were much bigger where I had been living and that they were better. I still believe that and I still listen to those albums on a regular basis. I've never owned anything by Nirvana (although I think they're ok). This is a song I Iive by and as others have said here already, when this world freak show ends it will be my funeral song.
met this guy, the singer at Glastonbury around that time, was a fucking decent chap. No pretensions, joined in and had a laugh and gave us drinks. a good memory for me. Gen x where have we gone?
Beautiful song about his dad really true for him. Life was given to all. Your minds his hers. Only one whole great news to like your own. I glad of mind
thanks to absolute radio for playing this great song can't believe it's took this long to hear a song like this when you think about the crap that gets air time daily.
One of the best live shows I ever saw-these guys in Cleveland, OH at the Phantasy Nightclub; I wanna say late 1993-early 94. This one nearly bounced the building on its side! Nice to meet up with it again.
Yassss.... accidentally became festival mates with these after being mistaken for security 😂🤣 I barely remember the hours we spent smoking up and drinking... top lads
