  • So, today I made a thing. I've made them in the past but I don't know what they are called, or if you can actually purchase these instead of making them.
This is how I thought that we could raise up a rack on the back of a van so it would stop scarping the ground whenever she went in and out of her driveway.

I see that you also like to repaint your trailer with the overspray. I use my rusty wheelbarrow to paint parts in. No sense in wasting the paint! Great job on the welding!

You could of just dropped the Input on the basket and welded it, then I the basket is closer to the bumper and no need for the hight adapter, that’s what I would of done and nice welds and fab work though.

That is an interesting idea, and would have worked well. I actually never thought about that. I was just told to make one and had like 45 minutes to make it in...not really a lot of time to think about stuff. NEXT TIME! hehe

Yeah we found one there too but it wouldn't go around the bumper and she was leaving that night, so we made it. not my favorite job, but we got it done.

I see, I see. I have a hitch dealer I purchase my inventory from and they looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I wanted a Hitch lifter to raise it up 4" I see you can get them on amazon too.

I bought one from ebay or Amazon. I can tell you what it's limit is. They are thin steel too. I put it in my 1 ton hooked up my deck over trailer to it. Then I put my 13,000 pound winch in the top hole and pulled a semi cab up the trailer. It wasn't happy and it bent. By the way they put two receivers facing the trailer so you can hook up a trailer and the top hole is for whatever. Like a bike rack.

Because everyone with a low to the ground car wants a bike hitch carrier or basket rack in the back. Better making your own and getting the correct height and distance with some good welds. =Some of these welds on these $30-40 can be pretty crappy and who knows what type of Chinese steel they are using.
You can shove a strip of thin steel in the hitch coupling to sort of rust-jack it in tight. =However almost impossible to get off once the rust starts expanding. Lots of these are crappy and probably break if used for towing = there is a good market for making custom ones.

That is why a lot of times I'll use 1/4 wall tubes because if there is going to be any weaknesses it won't be from making it too thin. Lay some thick welds on and at least you know it'll be better than some cheap junk. Now that I'm looking at some of the ones you can buy, I don't think it would fit on the vehicle because of the lack of bumper clearance. So I would have had to make one anyways. Oh well I like making stuff no matter what.

The worst part about those jobs is by the time you get done with your time and material you can buy it cheaper online if you can find it.
