I know I should have, but I didn't know the current president, Alexander Stubb. And I must say it was a pleasure to hear him talk about our current situation. He is a person that any country would like to have as president of their country: very educated, well prepared, with a lot of common sense and he is an optimist. The fact that the Finnish people chose him also says a lot about the people.

Agree. That's an extremely naive statement. It's not a given at all that democracy wins. Most of the world isn't in fact democratic. There's only one true democracy on the planet and that's Switzerland, where people can vote on laws directly. Democracy... 😂 gtfo. We all know special interest groups make the rules. That's why we have this right shift everywhere while the left is busy fighting for immigrants 😂

After watching many hours of European politics, reading through the legislation, and working in a very large European bank (EU started as a economic partnership after all), I understand that rarely an European politician will make big statements that are not carefully calculated. Even the so called "public fights" are carefully orchestrated and usually fake. All that happens, happens in the background, because EU is very very political. Stubb will not say anything of importance publicly unless all the pieces are in place and it helps him to make it public.

Interesting contrast hearing Stubb before and after being elected president. Like every other european leader now, he has to carefully toe the line between speaking his honest thoughts and opinions, and stroking Trump’s ego to try and manipulate him gently into pursuing the policies the european establishment wants. The court politics around Trump extend even to US geopolitical allies, as we’re all hostage to his whims now.

Americans are different, more individual, less familial and less culture, not necessarily less, but slightly more superficial. Not much can be expected from Trump when it comes to establishing peace between Ukraine and Russia. Furthermore, China has surpassed the US in the field of AI with Deep Seek. Trump wants to set up a very heavy AI sector with the current Big Tech. It is often forgotten that innovations are more likely to be found in small, new companies (starters), not hindered by bureaucratic rules. Europe can certainly make a difference here and does not necessarily need a heavy high sector for that.
