But what can you even buy that is made in the US? Nothing! It's all made in Asia. The US sells services, include trademarks like McDonalds, Starbucks, etc., which are just rent-seeking industries. The US controls tech like Google, Facebook, etc. It would be great if Europe mass organised to quit all the US platforms and join European platforms. But where is Europe's Google and Facebook? Until Europe build its own - like it created Airbus in the 1970s - Europe can only use other countries' services like Telegram (UAE), WeChat (China), etc., to circumvent relying on the US as the sole source, which grants the US unacceptable leverage in coercion. Wake me up when Europe is ready to do all this, because I'll gladly join.

Now what Trump got in return for "backing down" from Mexico: Sheinbaum explained that, as a result of their discussion, Mexico would send 10,000 National Guard troops to its northern border to “prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States” and prevent "illegal border crossings".

As a 45-year-old, I now often tell people the biggest regret of my life is to see the US "win" the Cold War. The US would not be in any position to do any of their BS around the world if there was an Eastern Bloc to oppose them. It has taken almost 40 years just to get BRICS as an opposition. But worse, the end of the Cold War was a disaster for the working class in the West. The threat of revolution spreading to the West was what coerced Western elites to give in to workers' demands for better wages, better working conditions, comprehensive social welfare. As soon as the Cold War ended, the Western elite reversed all the gains made by the working class due to the Cold War, and we are headed back to feudalism - a new techno-feudalism where a few oligarchs control everything. I wish I can turn the clock back and show the present world to the people in my childhood. They'd never agree to the grotesque present economic order and world order.

Nope they likely have been drawing up a list of sanctions they can implement just like last time they specifically targeted Sanctions against exposed members of the republican US Congress last time. And I’m certain they will do it again Europe has some of the best negotiators on the planet and they have the finances to give as good as they get. The US can pull this against Canada and Mexico because they’re smaller economies but the EU that’s a bad move.

this usually results in tariffs on luxury goods and goods the global sources that employ Americans in red states.
