  • Visitors to the newly opened W Hotel in Edinburgh will find themselves conveniently positioned near several iconic landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat, the Royal Mile, and Calton Hill, all just a short stroll away from the sleek and contemporary hotel lobby. But before embarking on a day filled with historical explorations, sightseeing adventures, and perhaps a whiskey tasting or two, guests will encounter a seamless integration of technology, courtesy of discreet Faradite motion sensors.
Crafted to an impeccable standard, the hotel offers guests both comfort and opulence, with every room equipped with the user-friendly Lutron myRoom system. Spearheaded by Link Media Systems, a London-based consultancy with over two decades of experience in providing control solutions for residential and commercial settings, the project ensures a seamless fusion of automation and luxury.
Sohan Perera, the managing director of Link Media Systems, shed light on the rationale behind selecting Faradite sensors for the hotel's automation needs, citing their favorable reception by designers, clients, and technical experts alike.
In the primary living spaces, the Motion Sensor 360 - Volt Free proves its efficacy by intuitively activating lighting upon guests' entry into the room. In spaces partitioned by doors, such as the toilet and shower cubicle, discreet Faradite motion sensors discreetly illuminate targeted light circuits upon detection of movement. Notably, for the shower area, the robust and waterproof Motion Sensor 360 - IP67 - Volt Free is opted for by LMS.
Enhancing guest experience further, Lutron Palladiom keypads provide a simplistic interface for triggering lighting scenes and indicating preferences for room servicing, with subtle indicator lights outside each room.
Beyond mere convenience, the Faradite motion sensors also serve a vital role in providing real-time room vacancy reporting to the central guest room management system (GRMS). This ensures that rooms left unoccupied for extended periods have their HVAC systems appropriately adjusted to conserve energy.
With over 400 Faradite motion sensors seamlessly integrated throughout the premises, guests are treated to automated lighting courtesy of some of the market's smallest and most discreet PIRs. Supported by the advanced GRMS system implemented by the LMS team, the hotel operates at peak efficiency, offering guests an effortlessly automated experience. Amidst such sophistication, the only decision guests need to make is which whiskey to sample next.
It's now apparent: the 'W' in W Hotels truly signifies "Wow".

No useful information was given in this video. We know Faradite was used in the project but how did it "solve" the problem.
Why was it the obvious choice? is it only because Line Media System uses Faradite!

Hi Hassan, thanks for your feedback.
Our sensors offered a very small, flush mounted and discreet motion sensor solution to reduce ceiling clutter. Many other sensors on the market are far bigger/uglier and designers often reject these larger sensors.
This video is intended to highlight a prestigious project that we were proud to be included in.
We have a number of technical videos that delve into the technical integration of our sensors which may be more what you are looking for?
If you have any specific questions please feel free to email us on info@faradite.com and we will be more than happy to help.
