Great review, very detailed. Done 20k km on 2nd gen mt09 and 55k km on 1st gen mt10. I just want yamaha to make similarly styled new mt10, I'd buy 2 of those 😅
Alex, can you please do a quarter mile runway test with the standard MT09 with Quick Shifter and the new Y-AMT version. Then perform 3 tests. 1. STANDARD using the Quick Shifter 2. The new Y-AMT in full automatic mode 3. The new Y-AMT in MANUAL mode using the up and down paddles. I'm very interested in seeing if the Y-AMT is quicker in manual mode using your hands than using your feet with the quick shifter. F1 moved to paddle shifters because they knew that a drivers hands were far quicker than their feet/clutch and stick. Cheers
I think the automatic is a brilliant idea for the Goldwing, not so much for a hooligan bike. Also, I highly doubt the new Hornet will be anywhere near as fun to ride as an MT-09, even if it ends up being a better all-rounder. The Z900 comes to mind. Great in every sense, but lacking that extra spice that the 9 triple has in spades.
I prefer that insanely smooth torquey 4 cilinder, it just feels better and with a full exhaust (no cat) that 4cil sounds better than a triple anyday. The mt09 has a more playful character especially riding through the city though.
