  • Please read the full description; my character setup is very specific in order to achieve the results you see in the video (as usual, no direct stat boosts were used).
    It should come as no surprise that this fight is by far the longest in the game, in large part due to the four unskippable cutscenes flanking the DMs. The fight itself has got a ton of flaws, but even so I like it quite a bit. This is a about a 1m10s improvement from my last New Game playthrough but I still played a lot of the fight safe.
    For this fight only, I'm putting off the strategy guide until I can do a proper tutorial video on the fight. I apologize, but in my opinion a text guide for this fight would be way too hard to follow and not up to my quality standard, not even mentioning the amount of time it would take. PLEASE ask any questions you have in the comments, I'll answer as many as I'm able.
    -CHARACTER SETUP-
    Keyblades: Happy Gear (+9), Ever After (+8)
    Accessories: Orichalcum Ring, Master's Necklace, Fencer's Earring
    Cuisine: Ratatouille+, Carrot Potage+, Seafood Tartare+, Beef Bourguignon+, Warm Banana Soufflé+
    (Full Course Bonus: Hearty Meal)
    To start, this accessory setup and Ever After at +7 gives you 29 Magic, which is the minimum amount to one-shot the Wolf Heads Sköll spawns with a well-timed Thundara.
    Now that Monstropolis is finished, you have access to Happy Gear which at +9 gives one more point of Strength over Hero's Origin. Remember you can get Damascus and Adamantites from the Gummi meteors in the Misty Stream.
    The cuisine used here gives you an extra +2 Strength compared to just buying from the shop, but you do have to go out of your way to get it. I decided to go for it just to have this video be complete but if you can't be bothered, it's only a slight damage boost. You need to have finished Monstropolis to access the ingredients required.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    With regards to abilities, there are a few important notes.
    The biggest mistake I see players make in this fight is not using Counter Slash. You lose out on so much damage with the other two because Counter Kick doesn't track Sköll well at all on any of his moves, while Impact just straight up doesn't have the range to hit him on his hug swipe.
    Turn off Sonic Slash, primarily for the DM phase since you're going to be doing a lot of Airstepping and you want to be doing fast attacks out of said Airsteps.
    Turn off Final Blow; once you hit Sköll with enough reprisals and break his Stagger Endurance, if you have Final Blow on it's likely to whiff. Without it on you can mash out combos to your heart's content once he's properly staggered and you should be able to keep him stunlocked for a little like at 2:11. Sköll has 25 SE, so expect to him to properly stagger in about 4 or 5 reprisals.
    Refer to my Chaos Carriage and Marshmallow videos if you want a bit of a rundown on Stagger Endurance, although hopefully I can get a proper tutorial out on it Soon™.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    One last note is to pay attention to where I use my MP. No matter what you're going to have to do one of the Wolf Head phases without Thundara, whether that's during the DM or not, so make sure you plan that out in advance in accordance with the increased MP recharge time with MP Slip (although the Master's Necklace does have MP Haste to help a tad).
    Alright, that's about all I can fit in here. This fight is extremely hard, and some of the time, extremely BS with All PRO Codes. Grit your teeth, ask for help if needed, and I promise you that you can improve and get it done. It took me three days of attempts to beat him during my first New Game APC playthrough. Good luck!

      @@mistercontroversial You need to kill 15 Wolf Heads during the DM, if I recall correctly. It's not inconsistent.
      The purple rain *is* random, the best defense against it is to be constantly either Air Sliding or doing Rising Spiral (due to its extremely long parry frames) in between your attacks, which you see me do here.
      With armor the dark rain isn't a one-shot in first DM, anyway, but yeah it's still no bueno

    Watched this to get some idea of where I was struggling when I was doing this fight on lv 1. Turns out I'm incredibly impatient in waiting for Skoll to attack when he decides to run around the arena like a lost puppy & fly up in the air 🤣
    Gonna give this another go

    • @BeeboySR
      @BeeboySR  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, the flying up in the air is a direct consequence of chasing him with air combos. Nothing you can do about him just not deciding to attack and just walk around for a while though, which is my biggest complaint about the fight by far

    This is definitely one of my favourite fights in base KH3, despite it's flaws. When you learn how it works, it's simple. Hard as fuck, but still simple!
    Fun fact: I was having a lot of trouble with this fight recently, so I decided to do something silly and unequip Speed Slash (since it was whiffing a bit) and put on Triple Rush and I ended up doing it on the first try with it lol

    I can't do the DM. Anytime I airstep in even if they're facing away, it turns and kills me or another one comes off screen. If I play uber safe the timer runs out.

      @@Panicatthepanic The answer you don't want to hear is to use Magic.
      For the Wolf Heads, you've gotta be looking at their animations while in the Shotlock reticle slowdown and avoid Airstepping to one that's chomping away.

    I seem to be nowhere close yet. I, in my infinite wisdom, decided that not only should I play on Critical for my first time playing the game, but I should also enable Pro Codes for the boss fights. It isn't LV1, but it is still quite challenging. When looking up some advice for the run, I kept running across how Skoll was incredibly difficult, so I made sure to prepare.
    I have two Chaos Anklets. My Magic is over 29. I've even farmed Gummi Missions, although I might want to do so again. I didn't check the max Keyblade stats, so I upgraded Hero's Origin, thinking that it and Happy Gear would be even. Turns out Happy Gear is 11 Strength to Hero's Origin's 10, so I could farm for that minor boost. I'm still debating whether Wizard's Ruse from the Wisdom Ring is worth it. I have 39 Strength with the Wisdom Ring, but I can replace it with Valor Ring for 43 (and Happy Gear would make 44).
    My meal is giving me +3 Strength base and another +1 from Hearty Meal, although I have seen people say that Berserk Charge can cheese the fight. I'm not sure how. I've tested using Berserk Charge before I even made it to the DM for the first time. I have since found I like having magic for the DM and it's only a +1 anyway, same as Hearty Meal. The only advantage I can think of is I can more readily interrupt Berserk Charge with a Block, since I can't interrupt combo finishers.
    Since I had not seen the Skoll fight, I mistook the first spawning of wolves as the DM. Foolish me. When I actually got to the DM, I was a bit more prepared. When I finally beat that, I immediately died to his new attack because I didn't know what to expect. It wasn't until watching this that I learned he has a second DM.
    What am I doing wrong? It seems the reprisal has a better chance of hitting Skoll if I jump first, so that's damage I'm missing out on. I've been choosing not to deal with the mini wolves, as I thought I just had to get to the DM and get past another couple health bars. Clearly I should work on efficiently killing those so I can have better consistency. Airstepping is another thing. I'm not very quick about it. It takes me a good couple seconds to shotlock and aim at my target. This is killing me often during both mini wolves and the DM.
    The only other thing I can think of at the moment that would "help" is farming for Strength Boosts. It is technically possible, as every material can be obtained though enemy drops (and/or Synthesis from other enemy drops), but just because it's technically possible doesn't mean it's a good idea. I'm pretty sure in the time it would take to farm even one boost, I could get several attempts at Skoll to better learn the fight.

    • @BeeboySR
      @BeeboySR  Год назад

      Surely you're not trying to take out the boss with ALL of the Codes on, right?

    • @DanelerH
      @DanelerH Год назад

      @@BeeboySR Of course I am. I may claim to have infinite wisdom, but that doesn’t mean I’m intelligent.
      I’m getting better at clearing the wolves, but I’m not consistent yet. I’ve learned 44 Strength is required to guarantee one-shotting them, so I Synthesized an Orichalcum Ring (in addition to the one from 45 unique materials). Those, my Strength Boosts, and the food give me 42 Strength, so I have the freedom to choose my third accessory as long as it gives at least two Strength. I’ve chosen the Master’s Necklace (+3) for a second MP Haste. It also puts me at 30 Magic with Happy Gear, so I don’t have to switch weapons and risk forgetting to switch back.

    • @DanelerH
      @DanelerH Год назад

      @@BeeboySR I did it! I probably hit triple digits in deaths, but I finally managed it. I tried a couple other optimizations, such as turning off Marshmallow's Cold Breath since Skoll and the minions take less damage from it and making Donald's only spell Fire (although I considered Thunder because he has 29 Magic for the off chance he accidentally hit multiple minions). I also turned on Speed Slash instead of Triple Rush. I won a few attempts later, but I don't know if Speed Slash was helping or if I was just getting better.
