Hi Dave Sorry about the issues you have faced. I've had the same at this end. As far as Nexus go. I have one and don't think you could give me a drum .my little bit of advice. There is a Karcher drain clearing pipe you can buy around £70. It's a reverse jet clearing pipe. Self-propelled and fits on to the standard Karcher pressure washer gun. Clean and rinse your Nexus, then leave the drain open. Feed the start of the pipe down your Nexus inlet and pull the trigger. The pressure end will feed itself around all bends all the way to your bottom drain, and you will not believe how much crap has been sitting there. It will shock you because no filter really purges your bottom drain like this. Game changer, mate 👍
Thanks for sharing Dave that’s your answer with shops that have their setups inside the filter/s only have to deal with poo and food if outdoor they have Alge to deal with too 🤔
Hi Dave, Hope you get your pond problems sorted mate. I'm having problems with mine. Can't seem to stop the koi flashing, can't find any parasites, and all water parameters are spot on. I've never had anything like this before, it's driving me crackers. I won't use them pond bombs after finding them on the bottom of my moving bed after 3 years. They don't get any smaller than what you have there mate. Hope you soon get sorted, take care, Terry.
Ah no Terry, sorry to hear you are having issues. I really hope you get sorted. Such a frustrating hobby and leaves you feeling helpless at times! We should have taken up golf instead!!!!
Thanks mate. Your right about the golf, I'd probably be rubbish at that as well 😂😂😂I must admit, it's not quite the same, sitting down to relax and enjoy your koi and watching them flicking 🙄🙄I hope were both sorted soon mate, take care, Terry
@Wrighty Thanks Terry. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. The only plus with golf, when it’s all going wrong you can Chuck the clubs in the cupboard and forget about them 😂😂
I might of missed something but didn’t you run the trident system on your Nexus? Personally the nexus is a great filter but if you have blanket weed issues it will struggle to keep clean you just have to step up your routine to be on top of the die off 👍
Hello mate, hope you're well. I must have missed when you swapped the trident? I've had a look and can't see the video where that happened? Did the trident not work in the end or was it an upgrade to a 320? Anyways I'm very interested as I've had a nexus 220 for a year and I love it but I'm not a little concerned lol.
Was surprised you enlarged the shed but didn't add to filtration, a seive in front of the Nexus will do wonders and save your credit card of the drum bud.
Sorry to see your still having issues day hopefully this deep clean will help 🤞 yeh I've found them pond balls don't dissolve as well until the fit through the grate and get chewed up by the pump 😂
@edenkoipond I dunno EA told me that if your bio doesn't need them they won't get used so from what I understand the longer they are there just shows your filters don't need them 👍
Dave could tell me have you ever had to treat for flukes since you've had your sturgeon what treatment did you use or did you remove sturgeon while treating
Fluke solve used to state it’s ok with sturgeon. Worth a look. Personally (after a scare) I just remove the sturgeon when I’m treating. A pain in The arse but best to be safe. 👍🏼
Thanks for your ever honest comments. I have one as well from EA bought 2 10,000 vari pumps one came with a 2 pin Germa style plug the other without. Well I mixed up the controllers and the up shot was the one without any plug wouldn't work with the controller that I cut the foreign plug off! But the other would work with either controller. So if I have a pump or controller failure I need to watch out! Pond balls, enough said 😂
Just a thought, are you sure the crap is in the pockets of the outer chamber when it's running? When it's drained, it's the natural place for it to go, so may look worse than it is.
Great videoDave, just a heads up ,even with drums you get crud build up around the diffuser on the bio side, I have a drum and know other people with different drums that have the same issue with the crud, Some people clean their bio side every 3 months
The only issue i had with mine a few years ago was settlement in my outer chamber. Bacterial issues. I siphoned it out n installed a more powerful air pump. No issues since. I think as koi keepers we are going too clean people with drums still get lots of issues n this imo may be because koi immune systems are weak living in pristine water some amount of muck n bacteria may be neeed. I agree that nexus does have some design faults still. They might being out an even better model next instead of just updating the nexus sticker at the front 🤣👍🐟 or the media
I empty mine once a year and vacuum the legs out. I allways leave the chamber full and just net it out. And allways put the media in water with airstone so I don't get the good bacteria die back. Good vid
I find keeping the out chamber full of water and taking the K1 out is easier. Plus you took the air pipe off the bottom of the easy. Why not take it off the top. Stops you bending down and less cuts. I have the same issue with the outer chamber and have taken the tape off as well. So far so good.
a filter to think about is the oase 140000 screenmatic , i use one and think there fantastic , easy to clean , has a screen as first line of debris filter , then loads of sponges to filter rest , do bit research , some people love them , some people hate them , like any filter really , they have haters and lovers ,
Job worth doing mate..I took the easypod apart and surprised to see it was spotless under all the media, worth doing just to eliminate any potential issues! A drum would be great but like you say, it’s money money money! Might see you at the show 🙏🏻
I had a 320. I now have a profi combi 30 😊😊😊. It's a great bit of kit. When you do a boil on a 320... I used a long reach hoselock watering hose. It was angled so could clean the underneath to a decent degree. I did use a few small air stones placed in the legs, sort of helped.
I am bias as a nexus user for 17 years, but I think a lot of nexus users over obsess over cleaning, it is just not needed, for the bio to work well it need some crap to feed on, all the surfaces of the filter should be left alone, so many destroy the bio film, I have never stripped my nexus 300 down for cleaning, I did strip it down once so I could raise it for a higher water level in the pond, I have pond problems the same as everyone, but I would not put it down to the nexus, best wishes😀
@@edenkoipondponds around 12000 litres. Feeding heavy at the moment so cleaning twice a week. I boil it twice, swill out the chamber and refill. That’s all I’ve ever done. Pushing about 6k litres an hour through
Like a brand new filter now Dave, you wont want a drum anymore 😅 I think the difficult part is preventing muck build up in the outer section, thats where you don't want it. Nitrifying bacteria dont like contaminated environments as it takes away from it being able to work as efficiently, All bacteria need is an ammonia source & oxygen. Looks like you've done a good job at it anyways, 🤞 you get the bacterial issue resolved.
Thanks for watching Si 👍🏼 The drum remains a huge want for me still. Be nice to spend more time enjoying the koi. Hopefully all is good your end. I have one of your videos to catch up on 😊
I don’t think the issue is the nexus, it’s getting clogged with the crap from that resolve shit. I had the same bacterial problems 10-12 years ago. I decided to leave it all alone I added a drum and a bakki shower about 7 years ago. I also added a permanent trickle in out without any filter. Touch wood I haven’t lost a fish in ten years.
I would love to get a drum…. Will keep saving 👍🏼 I was quite impressed with what I found when emptying the nexus. The let down is my maintenance regime I think. Need to up my game.
@@edenkoipond you can pick up a second hand drum and connect it to the nexus. The only thing is you'd have to jack the drum up higher so the level in the drum is the same as the level in the nexus

Hi Mate.A lot of users use blue 50mm air stones in the bottom of the outer chamber instead of the ring and it stops all that build up.
Thanks for the top advice 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
And the media boils better.
very helpful. thank you

Great video Dave, we have the same nexus as you & in this weather I have to clean it nearly every day dew to my koi eaten a lot 😂

Good old Henry!!!
For the next time use a wet and dry vacuum for the k1 that’s what i do 👍
