How do I tell the difference between attention screaming or if my parrotlets get really happy when I leave? They always start being very loud when I scream but when I try to give them an apple they are scared. I don't force the apple or anything I just leave my hand in the cage.

This is really late but i think you should buy a smaller travel cage since mia usually only uses the top half and it would make it easier to carry
try using a selfie stick or make something to hold your camera
