      Tensions have risen due to the dictator currently in power in Venezuela, who spreads hatred of Colombians among Venezuelans

    • @yucol5661
      @yucol5661 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@sanexpreso2944 really? I tought it would be more due to immigration. People get mad at poor people when they see them, specially when they can be blamed for being foreign or all painted as lower class thieves. But then again, the same happened to Colombian immigrants when Venezuela was richer, and Colombians have bigger problems than complaining about more poor people, there’s already a lot. Most tensions are just complaining about poor people and accents. Which are already a thing between Colombians from diffenret regions, so not a new prejudice at all

      @@yucol5661 Both countries have similar accents

    • @yiqi-ju1lx
      @yiqi-ju1lx 5 месяцев назад

      @@yucol5661 It's a mix of both actually, while xenophobia towards immigrants from venezuela has increased in recent years it is worth noting the unfortunate causes that have led to this, you see, while there are a bunch of people that act like a**h0les towards venezuelans just because of xenophobia, the truth is that most of the hatred comes from Venezuelan gangs and thieves that cause a lot of problems.
      Theres this group mostly made of immigrants from Venezuela that handles a lot of the organized crime in Colombia's capital, Bogota, this group's origins can be traced back to Venezuela's poor handling of their prisons, as the prisoners had total control of them (in the Torocon prison they even had a zoo), and due to the lack of border control, many of these gang members managed to cross into Colombia, and recruit even more immigrants to their gang, nowadays they've become one of the most brutal gangs in the region.
      We need measures like a proper border control to be enforced to ensure that people with ill-intentions don't cause more problems, as these kind of people harm both Colmbians and Venezuelans (since the vast majority of them are good people), and the gang's forces need to face the consecuences of their actions (which is very hard to do since the Colombian judicial system is full of flaws and corruption), when those conditions are met, it will be much easier for Colombians and Venezuelans to start building a better future.

Also with the general lifestyle of the region, and differencing it with things that are only of/from Colombia. This is a big step when taking into account that most of this europeans just think about latin america as the balkans, but tremendously bigger and louder. Apart of the fact that I will be forcing every single german I know to watch the whole video, (because it is great) I also died of complete cuteness when EL SEÑOR BEAT started speaking spanish. I’m taking a college history course this semester, and we learned about this earlier.
    I think it’s also worth pointing out that Spain’s American colonies were not allowed to trade, not even with each other. All of their goods were to come from Spain, and Spain only. This was because the colonies were meant for resource extraction, and agriculture.
    The King of Spain would also appoint the colonies’ viceroys. Often, somebody from Spain that the king trusted, not somebody from the colonies proper.
    These all contributed to the colonies’ demand for independence, but they weren’t what sparked it.
    If there are any Colombians and Venezuelans who would like to correct me, I’ll gladly take the criticism.

      I think it had a lot to do with the Viceroyalty system, most rebellions started as a way not to shake off Spanish rule... but to get away from Lima, Bogota and Buenos Aires who loved to send their relatives to the choicest jobs and administrative positions in other, lesser cities.
      So, when Napoleon showed up, Quito, Montevideo, Caracas, Santiago, etc, they all swore fealty to Ferdinand VII... bypassing the viceroys.
      And so the shooting started, it became an independence issue afterwards.
      Smaller colonies and a federal system prevented some cities to gaining too much power over others... for a while, it also ended up in bloodshed for the US eventually.

    As a colombian I'd like to see a video comparing Colombia and Spain, since they share many similarities seldom talked about, like being 2 pretty mountainus countries with an square-ish shaped mainland, their capital cities are also the biggest ones, both of the capital cities are located relatively close to the geographical center of each country at high altitude, they both have 2 different coasts, they both had an anglo superpower separate a strategic part of their territory (Co: Panama Sp: Gibraltar) They both have 5 neighbors (Co: Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama, Sp: Andorra, UK, Morocco, Portugal and France) both of them have around 50 million people with sizeable migrant minorities, they both have relatively outspoken and extroverted peoples, both of them are majority catholic countries with 2 different iterations of the Virgin Mary as patron saints (Co: Virgen de Chiquinquirá Sp: Virgen del pilar) and yet in both countries being atheist/agnostic is not rare, in both countries being overly patriotic is looked down upon, both countries have an overly nationalistic neighbor (Co: Venezuela Sp: France) both have a quiet, laid back neighbor (Co: Ecuador Sp: Portugal). Both have good relationships with the powerhouses on each ones' continents/hemisphere (Co: USA Sp: Germany) both have great relationships with nearby countries that don't share a land border (Co: Mexico Sp: Italy) both of them have stereotipically dancy, talkative, hands on and warm cultures, both of them have a long musical tradition and have succesful international artists, both of them have weird national anthems (Spain's anthem doesn't have official lyrics while Colombia's anthem is long af), both countries have beautiful islands and archipelagos with unique flora and fauna, both countries had one major dictator during the 20th Century (Co: Rojas Pinilla, Sp: Franco) both countries are currently ruled by a relatively leftist head of govt (Co: Petro Sp: Sánchez) they both have 2 major separatist movements (Co: Antioquia and the Caribbean region Sp: Catalonia and the Basque country),they both are part of continental trading blocks (Co: PA Sp: EU), they both have issues with drug trafficking, they both have issues with migrants (Co: Venezuelans Sp: africans), they both love cheese, fruits and flowers, they both have a lot of mining but little petroleum unlike some of their neighbors, they both have a hip, flashy, trendy city as the 2nd biggest city (Co: Medellín Sp: Barcelona) they both have a diverse variety of spanish language accents, they both have certain traditions brought from Africa, both of their highest mountains are close to the sea and aren't a part of their largest mountain systems (Co: Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta independent from the Andes and Sp: mount Teide independent from the central system) they both have deserts, they both have several mountain chains, they both have territorial disputes with nearby countries (Co: Nicaragua Sp: Morocco), they both are kinda indifferent towards the largest country on each ones' continent (Co: Brazil Sp: Russia) they both are pretty sunny countries, they both retook islands that the British had taken from them (Co: San Andrés Sp: Menorca) they both have a great work/life balance, they both are family oriented, they both like to converse after having a meal, they both have their population unevenly distributed (Co: Andes and caribbean coast Sp: Madrid and the coasts) they both have pretty rainy areas on the northwestern region (Co: Chocó, Sp: Galicia), they both have a love/hate relationship with a neighbor (Co: Venezuela Sp: France) they both fought along and against dictatorial war generals (Co: Bolívar, Sp: Bonaparte), they both received help from the British to achieve independence, they both were united with their current neighbors temporarily (Gran Colombia and Iberian Union), they both have football as their main sport although they tend to do better on other disciplines, they both have relatively loud and amicable peoples, they both received migrants from the middle east, they both support palestine without being anti-israel, they both are located near US enemies (Co: Venezuela Sp: algeria) they both have several political parties, they both allow same-sex marriage, they both have child and pet friendly cultures, they both love to eat rice dishes more than their neighbors, both countries have popular pork dishes and several soup recipes, they both grow and export bananas, and last but not least Shakira lived in and loved both countries.

    Great video. I'm truly amazed by how thoroughly your research was. Thanks so much!
    My only issue is *really* small and it comes down to how you often skip the tílde when pronouncing names or words that have it. Specially with Bolívar's name which quite frankly (and no offense of course) sounded jarring throughout the video.
    It's worth explaining that the tílde is there to help figure out the accent in words or names. If you see the tilde, then the emphasis on that word will only be in that vowel.
    Like Zenú, you pronounced it as if the tilde was in the e and not the u. You really will only find tíldes in vowels, so as you get familiar with Spanish, it gets easier to figure how to pronounce words which have tíldes.
    In the case of Bolívar, you pronounced his last name as if the tílde was written in the a and not the i. Whenever you said it, I could only picture it like this: Bolivár.
    Also another small correction: Muisca is pronounced like
    Moo IS (basically the same as English but sorta like if you were starting a question) ca ( *Ca* lifornia, *Ca* milo, *Ca* ca) you get the idea.

    Economic correction - Venezuela was the richest country in S.America but the decline started happening in 1978-2001, the year 2000 saw major growth after decades of slowdown, Chavez came to power in 1999. So Chavez actually handled the economy pretty well. But of course that might not suit the soft propoganda that americans push.

      Chávez destroyed the Venezuelan economy almost from the moment he arrived.
      He tremendously affected PDVSA's independence and productivity by exchanging its workers for his activists. He increased the debt, expropriated companies that in the short term were looted and closed down, price controls and his situation led to more than double-digit inflation in a time of prosperity. Worse already at the end of his term: high inflation, the country close to default, falling oil prices and huge public spending.
