Ok, I know this was made a few years ago, but I have strong feelings for Smash. It is my favorite musical tv show. Is it also probably one of the most flawed ones? Yes. Do I think it deserves to be redone or rebooted? Yes. With the right writing team and directorial vision, it could be a huge hit. The ideas were good, the casting amazing, the songs and choreography breathtaking, and the first show to attempt to show how a musical is made. I even love it enough to have thought out all the ways the show could have been better. Which I will now get into because I have many thoughts and not many places to share them. First, make each season a semi-anthology series, with each season focusing on another shows journey to creation. First season, Bombshell from thought to workshop to out of town tryout to eventual Broadway run, with all the drama included but more cohesive and better flow and Ivy getting Marilyn during Boston. Second season, Hit List would be Karen leaving Bombshell after Boston because she wanted more, and finding the writing team of Hit List, following all the storyline of Jonathan Larson but ending at Off-Broadway. They would be able to fit Julia into it to be the dramaturg (which I use the term loosely for show purposes) and Derek to bring some crossover with season one. Season 3 would have been Liasons with Ivy leaving Bombshell after a successful run as Marilyn, and all the drama from that occurring along with room to grow the story to be more interesting. Just my thoughts, I thought you guys did a great job summarizing and critiquing the show.
Script doctor is what Carrie Fisher used to do - come in and make already written scripts that aren't working work! A dramaturg is essentially the historian of the show - researching the historical context for the piece (when it was written, etc).

Okay... what _is_ the difference between a script doctor and a dramaturg?
