I am kind of surprised that Mike was in the back of the truck. As capable as he is, he is also not a young pollo anymore. As head of Gus’s security, it would be bad if he got captured. He should have sent someone more expendable.

I love how Mike's always mildly upset when he gets a flesh wound, like it wasn't just a miracle he survived
It's a matter of professional pride. If they had just flat-out got him, he probably would have accepted they were just better prepared, better planned, better skilled. But for Mike to end up with one small "imperfection" on an otherwise perfectly executed plan... it's both annoying and a little embarrassing for him.
It would have been much more realistic if Mike had a reinforced cube to get in until the shooting was over. With that many bullets being sprayed all over, the odds would have been close to nil to survive or not be incapacitated. Gus & Mike knew that almost every medium level cartel member has access to heavy firepower. Shame because the writers are spot-on 99.9% of the time.
Not really. You would be surprised to know how good ice cream and any thick liquid is at stopping bullets. Plus, those rounds they were shooting were likely 9mm as those were mp5ks, so those dont have much penetration power at all compared to actual rifles.
I don't think they expected a heavy hit like this where they fire through the entire truck.

@@rgkong8783 The cartel was shooting at him when he made this post, it's why he looked up this specific scene.
Not to mention they were standing on the ground shooting up into the truck. There was plenty of survivable space on the floor.
@@rgkong8783 Not OP, but I once went to a demonstration in DC at the air and space museum. I don't remember why, but there was a demonstration of prototype body armor there. It was basically a bunch of packs of goo they were letting kids mess with to demonstrate how liquids compact under pressure.
The idea was that if a bullet hits the goo, it compresses and effectively stops the bullet by absorbing its momentum similar to a car's crumple zone. I didn't fully understand it at the time and I don't now, but I think you could apply a similar logic here. If nothing else, if he was low enough to the floor of the truck they might just shoot over him.
You'd think, if this situation were the expected bad end, that Mike would have already been equipped with a ready-made fort of crates.

I thought it was pretty dumb he took a handgun to this job. It's not like he has to conceal the weapon or anything, so why not bring an assault rifle.

I always thought it was odd that Mike was using any handgun other then a revolver in this scene. He seems to be a guy that values as much reliability as possible in any situation (like his using a tried and true bolt action with a lineage dating back to his Vietnam days in BCS, pulling out a revolver a number of times in other situations) and seems out of character for him to use something that could potentially jam, even if he used all reasonable precautions beforehand.

Because he needs speed and the higher magazine capacity in this case, A revolver won't cut it, and I am sure he has one in the holster. he does check the gun once for icing before the shooting starts tho.
This scene is so surreal, i was so fascinated by the way he tried to put back that piece of his ear and it fell back 😅.
I wonder if they shot real bullets to film the holes opening like that
Liked Banks in the 80s movie, 'Earth Girls are Easy.' Besides being a fine dramatic actor, he's also a fine comedian.

Mike definitely wouldnt have felt that earshot till later cuz all that time in the freezer wouldve for sure numbed the hell ouf of his ears

See I like BB but this scene is unrealistic as hell. No way in hell would Mike have survived that with how many bullets were put inside there
i guess the reasoning is that they were shooting high, so as to destroy the product, but mike stayed low so he was okay?
Yeah you can tell they’re mostly shooting upward since the truck is so high. They’re never shooting directly at the floor.

It's a refrigerated truck to preserve the ingredients being transported to a Los Pollos restaurant; you can see his breath at the beginning showing how cold it is in the truck. You can also see some of the heavily insulated lining when one of the gunmen peaks through a bullet hole.
