    I'm surprised there is no mention of deactivating shields, cargo scoop, power distributor, hangar, weapons, and any other modules that you are not currently using. This will make your ship much cooler during refuelling and allow you to jump out sooner. Just remember to reactivate your shields and etc before landing on a planet and when you are nearing the bubble if you are worried about pirates.

    From my experience, ships can get jumps started as long as they are getting away from the star and below 70° temp.
    Depending on the ship and how far you are, your ship can cool off a jump as high as 85°, but some times you are still too close to the star, and you'll jump to 130° and cook yourself.
    Also, very low heat ships, like 25° or lower resting heat can get sit by the star, fuelscoop at max speed, prepare the jump, and throttle up when the FSD is charged.
    These ships will spend the fuel as the jump is started, and fuelscoop during the animation, recovering a bit of what was spent.
    This can be done on unengineered ships, but getting them cool enough will mean most run shieldless.

  • @Moosemansmithy
    @Moosemansmithy 3 года назад +1

    If you do decide to use heat sinks during long-distance exploration it is important to visit a materials Trader and stock up completely on the components you need because they are not raw materials. They are manufactured materials. If you have a few good Engineers unlocked you can also design your ship with a low emissions power plant. The best way to do this is to uninstall the majority of the modules that you can fly around without using. Automatic field maintenance units planetary vehicle hangar. Limpets. Fighter Hangar Bays. Then look at the power requirement for your ship. Purchase a power plant that you can modify between G3 and G5 for low emissions. This will make your ship run very cold. At times your windows will ice up while you're in super cruise. This will allow you to scoop longer and mitigate Heath much easier. it is a little safer to run these builds without heat sinks but for long-distance exploration I would suggest running at least one lightweight heat sink. After you found the power plant that suits your needs reinstall your modules. If you need to use a field maintenance unit shut down your guardian frame shift Drive, frame shift Drive, power distributor excetera to allow for the amount of power you need to complete repairs. If you want higher speed repair run to field maintenance units. If you find that you are slightly under your power requirements monster your power plant. if you have more than enough power thermal spread or strip down your power plant. As an added bonus it's pretty cool to land on a planet surface and hear your windows icing up from how cold your ship runs. If you design your ship the right way you can also make it into a cold running build to help protect you when you're in populated systems. if your ship is decently fast and you have a cold running build it is very hard for someone to shoot what they cannot see. Unless of course they have emissive munitions. Experiment with low emission power plants for your build and you will find a lot of cool things you can do.

    Researching 'proper' fuel scooping techniqus. Thanks for the info! I've been flying without orbit lines, having to eyeball where the exclusion zone is by monitoring the heat as I close orbit the star, 75% speed until full, watching the surface distance out of the lower outer corner of the cockpit glass of whatever I'm flying. Flyby has never net me a top off, and I had recently seen someone 'park' over a star to refuel, seemed easier than what I've been doing. I've also learned not to 'belly flop' into the exusion zone thanks to my Anaconda doing just that the 1st 2 or 3 times I tried scooping in it.

    This is very good advice except, if you have the biggest fuel Scoope, you can just stick on the Supercruise and orbit the fuel up just as fast. I Supercruise fuel Scoope all the time but it's only really effective if you use the biggest A grade Scoope you fit to your ship.

    Don't sit on giant stars reminded me of the day trip I had to Betelgeuse last month where the tourist beacon and a fleet carrier were within the scooping space and jumping to supercruise was an immediate fuel top up, the scooping was still going almost out to Betelgeuse 2 and when I began on the trip home again it took an eternity to have the fuel scooping go away so I could jump.

  •  2 года назад

    I like to just bring fuel tanks, because then I can just fly around the star and jump right when the FSD is off cooldown. Then I'm out of fuel after an hour and a half ish, at which point I park my ship somewhat close but not entirely by the star and take a 10 minute break to get some water and stretch my legs. I come back, ship's fueled up and ready to go for another hour and a half.
    This also means that I'm always far enough away that the temperature equilibrates below 100% (usually 60-ish) and I'm never in danger of entering the EZ.

Docking computer compromised my first time out in a large ship. Got stuck in the mail slot and couldn't get free. Destroyed, re-bought, renamed "Vengabus", flew home, traded it in for an Orca.

    The Krait II has some neat little cutouts in the front panel, just near the top of the radar, that act as a pseudo boresight for tracking the exclusion zone for me. I play in VR, and fuel scooping has become so reflexive that I put a twitch stream in between the HUD primary/secondary brackets, completely filling my forward view for my trip last night. And if the exclusion zone is bugging out, you could also take a small haircut on your scoop time by pulling away until you drop just below full efficiency. Then try to keep the rate steady. If the rate falls, you're getting too far away. If it rises, you're getting too close.

    Maaaaan! So, I'm still in the starting systems and wanted to explore just a couple jumps outside of the two adjacent systems we're given. This thing had spend just about thirty minutes of passing an on-planet base for data interaction. I thought I was supposed to deploy my lander, only to find out through a video that all I need to do is get close and scan it. Well, one mission down (the other with the same objective wouldn't take) and I depart to head back in turn in. But alas, I now have less than 1/4 is my fuel left and no fuel scoop. I'm not going to give up, but it personally feels like a huge oversight from the devs to not include this information in some kind of training mission. Ugh.

    I'm usinf fuel scoop when mining. Though I do not have the highest fuel scoop i can have. I need that for cargo. But i have the highest after other priorities is dealt with. So in my python i have a 4A scoop. And I fuel at every start i can. I'm not that worried about not being able to scoop at every star so once now and then i need to go one revolution around a star. But that ok for me. Often just scoop in the time FSD is on cooldown. Or when next star is on the other side from where i dropped in.
    Python is a really cool ship and i do not have any problem with heat. But i carry heatsink for when i need to not be scaned so i use it some sometimes when i need to scoop for longer time.
    God guide and i will follow it when buy myself a ship to explore with.
    Edit: forgot one thing. If i need to tab out to check something, like where to go when for the next trip or just find the next RUclips clip or anything else i might need to check i usually go in to fuel scooping but at a low rate and just sits there while doing other things at zero throttle. It takes time to scoop but the other thing in doing takes time to so at the end i will have saved time anyway

    I was just keeping the ship temp at about 60 and orbiting around the star that way, but even then I managed to enter the exclusion zone a few times. Then I had to deal with the pain of waiting on a cooldown before jumping out. I finally just gave up and turned the orbital lines back on and I use that now. I just hate having that on when traveling, since I prefer a more realistic appearance.

But scooping doesn't seem to replenish the fuel for getting around systems, only the jump fuel. I have no problem scooping despite figuring it out myself. Hey kid you want to get into exploration quick?
    Well what if I told you that you can get a good ship together after 2 solid evenings of work?
    And at the same time get some imperial rep.
    That's what I did. 2 days and hop I was in a Diamonback explorer with A graded scoop, A graded auto maintenance units, a repair limpet. And I saved some weight by skimping out on some of the other internals.
    I went to Ngalinn or whatever it is called and ran the courrier missions farm. They dont pay much. But you complete so many of them at a time and so fast you always get the time delivery bonus. I had 20 millions after 2 evenings of doing it, I was an empire Lord to boot.
    Of course the ship was not engineered and didnt have Guardian boost. But it still had a 37LY range and I went all the way to the galactic rim with it and back.

      If you're constantly trying to scoop at maximum rate, the heat will become very bad. Also note that you do not have to move to fuel scoop, you only have to move to make the rate change. So even while going at very low speeds, you can find a good fuel scooping rate that also won't overheat your ship too fast and you can just sit there waiting for that sun to refuel your ship. Also try to not start charging your FSD for the next jump until the little icon for the star you are scooping from on your HUD turns from red to orange. If you start earlier the heat from the sun and the heat from your FSD will combine and go very high very fast. If you hit the FSD as soon as the star icon turned orange, you will most likely gain around 2-3 more ticks of heat increase and then it should fall off again. Hope this helps o7

    If you don't have enough money for it a high grade fuel scoop then get your ass out there and make the money. You should be able to make it in at least one or two days. With mining the way that it is you should be able to make that much money in one day. Spend your second day making the money you need for the rebuy. Then the rest of your exploration cartographics will continue to ramp up your income. If you're concerned about getting where you're going doing exploration is the way to go. It will save you time. I do not know some people who intentionally take their time. For them it doesn't matter as much.

    Probably the reason why people like "KGB FOAM" is because KGB was a Soviet Russia's intelligence agency. Most espionage movies feature KGB, and maybe that's why people like it. "Foam" is not a big deal, is it?

    one would think in the 3000's you would have the technology to have an automatic discovery scanner

    • @SPFLDAngler
      @SPFLDAngler 3 года назад

      They do... the fully upgraded scanner scans the entire solar system.. goes from first - 500 light seconds to second - 1,500 and finally third -everything in the system...

      Higher level scoops don't weigh more that lower level ones and if you're only out exploring, it's probably the best way to go while saving some time on your trips.

    It's a little deceiving to name this video a "no BS" guide.. it's collectively 13 minutes of anecdotes and talking yourself up, and 45 seconds of useful information.
