However, he had promised to bring the belt with him and make a few title defenses during the tour. Verne Gagne insisted he drop the belt prior to the tour. Because of this he walked out of the building with the belt and Bockwinkle was awarded the title by default. Hansen still went to Japan with the belt and kept his promise to Baba. When Hansen returned to the States he returned the belt but not before he ran over it with his truck.
