If you are new to using a jig, buy arkie style jig head first. They can be used in almost all applications. Then branch out from there with more specific types, I.e. football jigs, swim jigs, ball headed jigs. Another great video Debo!
Love throwing jigs. Swimming jigs, football jigs. That War Eagle finesse jig is my favorite. And we all know Randizzle loves it too. Thanks for the video Debo!
As someone just getting into bass fishing (caught my first bass today, on a chatterbait) this kind of info is awesome, great professional video, quality, and info, you deserve more subs.
Another great vid Debo! I started out bass fishing like 5-6 years ago and had no freakin clue what to do with a jig. A couple of summers ago I decided to tie one on for every outing and soon realized what I was missing out on! I catch bigger and more fish on a jig than anything else now! Patience, with some trial and error helps a lot.
Just starting to gain some confidence with jigs. Caught my first couple fish ever on a small finesse jig a couple weeks ago. So these tips come at the perfect time for me! As always, love the channel and content. Great teaching. Thanks Debo!!
Dude! Learned so much! I think the only thing I already do is tie a Palomar knot 😂 really appreciate the tips and plan on spreading the word as I hook up with more fish utilizing them.
Great tips guy! Just have a hard time putting up a plastic worm rig of some type in order to fish a jig. But, your vids are convincing me to put in the time. Thanks!
Thank you sir! I'm not mad at that at all. I always have a Texas rig tied on. The jig is great when you're switching and hitting different cover. Thanks for watching 👊
Absolutely DEBO!! Another great video bro 🙌🏽👍🏽👍🏽 This DEBROSKI absolutely cannot leave me house without some kind of jig tied on. I actually make my own jigs from 1/124 oz all the way up to 1oz jigs.
I do most of those. I also trim the skirt different lengths all throughout. I do the same with spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. It helps the skirt to puff out. Great video as always ✊🏻
I remember a few years ago being a new bass/musky angler(trolled for walleye my whole life) and I thought skirted jigs were crap, never caught shit . Then I learned to put a trailer on them. Life changing.
I love this video. I modified every jig I use. I recently began using more finesse jigs. I also found a StrikeKing creature bait like a river beaver and I found that when fish are being finiky I can insert a 2 or 3mm glass rattle with brass beads. Talk about an attention getter!!! Shame we don't live closer to you. We'd have to go lip rippin and share some tricks. I may be doing a concert close to you and if I get a chance, it's on!!! Keep the videos coming!!!
Excellent video my friend! I definitely learned alot and I'm anxious to try jigs more in 2019. I use bladed jigs, spinnerbaits and started using swimjigs last year with some success. I need to build up some confidence in the actual jig. Alot of good information here to be utilized especially for a novice
One thing I found with feeshin a jig in comparison to a Texas rig for instance... slowwwww. Drag, hop, double hop hop... try to feel and pay attention especially when coming in contact with lay downs and brush. Bump the head of the jig on the limbs and logs softly until you get the feel for it. Dangle it over this kind of cover, don’t try to snatch it out. Will save you money and boost confidence. 👍🏼 thanks Debo!
hard part here is our pond is full of algae, kinda clogs up anything near the bottom. haven't had much luck with surface lures, but only bank fishing for now, no boat... but lotsa time to play/learn new baits... It'll all come together. Your videos help a lot, keep up the help. 😊😎 👍👍👍👍👍
I have some ponds around me like this and I thought the same thing with surface lures. So I went and bought a white spook walking topwater bait went to one of the ponds like that and bam first 2 fish were a 3 and 4lb LMB
Another tip? As one threads on the plastic trailer, just before sliding it over the 'keeper', twist the trailer/plastics a quarter turn left or right (or half turn...just experiment) then while it's twisted, slide the trailer up over the keeper and once slid up all the way, twist the trailer into position. This helps keep your trailer on longer since there isn't a direct straight groove backwards down to the hook. One can also add a drop of gel super glue to the backside of the jig head or the bait keeper.
Might be time to trim something more than the jig skirts... LOL... Look at that power beard taking off! How long are you going to grow it? :) Great video, as always. I especially like your point that flaring out the weed guard could also help to avoid hangups that come slightly from the side or when the jig turns over a bit while coming through cover. Smart!
Yea, I got the beard trimmed up. I've let it go really long before. The weed guard thing really helps to not get hung up as much! Thanks for watching man!
Awesome upload DEBO 💪 when I first started jig fishing spreading the weedgaurd to snag less was key before I learned to do that I had hell trying to gain confidence bc it seemed like I spent more time trying to unsnag or tying a new jig on than actually fishing 🤣
Hahah I know man. I was the same way. Worrying about just fishing the jig instead of always thinking about getting snagged and it makes all the difference.
Hey, Debo's! I have worked on my Topwater, Spinnerbait and Crankbait fishing over the last two years. My catch ratio has increased 70%. So I haven't worked on my bottom fishing in a while. When I lived in Southern Indiana. The lake I fished had Smallmouth bass in it. So I read up on how to catch Smallies. I used a Carolina rigged Pumpkin Green Salamander on a EWG 3/0 hook. This set up worked great! So now wanting to add to my fishing arsenal. I am wanting to learn how to jig fish and also add Carolina rig's this year. Believing I can improve my PB by bottom fishing. Debo's can you give me a update on jig fishing and do you have any Carolina rig knowledge to move me along. To catching my new PB. Shawn.
Thanks for the video Debo! I do use most of the tips mentioned in this particular video. I still enjoy listening to the way you explain them though. Lol You are one heck of an instructor Debo! One of my goals for my 2019 feeshing is to improve my jigging skills. I am looking at a TFO Professional Series 7'6" jigging rod, (as well as some other brands). I am wondering if you or anyone other feeshing friend has any experience or useful input on the TFO Professional Series rods? Specificly the 7'6" med/heavy moderate/fast rod?
The only thing I do additionally is Im a big fan of scent. Either JJ's or Bang. Some guys do scent some guys not much. I happen to think it helps in helping mask the "human smell" from our hands. It's a confidence thing I guess. Thanks for the vid.
Ohhh. Man, I really don't ever scent besides chartreuse spike it. Scent is something I've gone back and forth on. But like you said if it gives you confidence and gets a couple more bites, do it up!
Going to flare my weed guards. I do trim my skirts, hook my trailers similar to the way you do, and I always tie a palomar knot. I don’t trim the front of the skirt tho so I’ll knock that out tomorrow as well. I almost always take a small chunk off the trailer tho. I find it’s much easier to get the bait keeper in without destroying it.
Being new to fishing jigs I could def use this video. Lost my first one last week to get snagged in the “v” of a lily pad. Any hints to avoid that? Or is it the same info as the video?

I'm not huge with jigs I will use them from time to time but I typically have a few other things I prefer more (mostly due to no bass being up here in North Dakota) most fish end up being pike/trout/northerns but yeah if I go for a jig I like the zman craws not advertising but they float and on a jig I just like to see those claws rise and I tend to fish a jig extremely slowly maybe a foot every 15 seconds.
Debo’s Great tip on how to modify the soft plastic once on the jig. I am a jig and shaky head addict yet I have never heard this one. So simple yet effective, thank you.
Do you have any videos that talk about the specific techniques? The one thing I think that I've been having problems with is how to actually start using them on the water. How do you move the rod to get certain motions, stuff like that. This, of course, is right alongside the whole "I don't know where/when to use what" problem. Hard to find tips that say "If you see [THIS], try using [THAT]." as a real jumping off point.
I am weak on freshwater jigging, mostly a worm guy. What jig would you recommend for shallow, clear, lots of Lilly pads with open pockets water? No rocks or wood. Thanks
Morty Ditchtroll If your going to be “swimming” the jig through the Lilly pads then using some jig with a more pointed head which will allow you to bring the jig easier through the cover. A flipping jig or brush jig are great jig for flipping the opening or edges of the pads. Hope this helps!

when trimming the brush guard i tend to try and match the scenery around me so if i know the lake is loaded with lettuce im gonna keep it thicker than i normally would and vise versa
I have too...any tips 🤣 Well I normally go with a downsized natural presentation in those cases. A finesse jig like the zman finesse shroom jig or even just a ned rig would be great options to pick up some fish!
Depends on what you want to do, water temp, water clarity, etc. I use the rage craws when I want a lot of action. Try different stuff out to find what you like.
I just realized that I sorta stopped using jigs this winter. I guess I just wasn't getting bit and starting using other stuff.. who knows. I'm gonna force myself to always have one in the rotation.
I find bulky, heavy jigs pretty difficult to fish especially on soft bottoms. Very hard to tell what's going on down there and it tends to pick up a lot more gunk than a smaller jig.

Thanks for the tips!
Hahah thanks for watching my friend 👊
Love throwing jigs. Swimming jigs, football jigs. That War Eagle finesse jig is my favorite. And we all know Randizzle loves it too. Thanks for the video Debo!

Yea, different lengths is great too! Always appreciate all your support man!
literlly just got off the lake and saw this. Only bite I got today was on a 3/4oz jig dragging bottom. cool vid!
Nice! For whatever reason jigs just work!
Thanks awesome video now time to modify them like the tricks
You're welcome man, hope they help you out!
I remember a few years ago being a new bass/musky angler(trolled for walleye my whole life) and I thought skirted jigs were crap, never caught shit . Then I learned to put a trailer on them. Life changing.
Yeah, I don't ever rock them without a trailer!
Great tips man, there were a few I hadn’t done that I’m going to do tomorrow when I go through my jigs. Great video once again Debo 👊🏻
Awesome man, hope they help you out. Have a good week!

Great info Debo....

Great job on this video Debo, thanks
You're welcome and thanks for watching!
Debo my man awesome video (as always) I use jig skirt trimming but don’t really mess with the weed guard much
Give it a try. It will really help around wood to spread that out. Good hearing from you man. How has the ice fishing been?
I caught my PB yesterday after tying a jig on and pitching it into grass while walking back to the car. Saved me from getting skunked!
Hahaha yes! That's why you have to embrace the grind. Never know when the next cast will be a PB!
I like the twist idea, going to try that. I've tried the super glue thing and it was a mess for me lol. Thanks for the comment man!
Nobody explains this stuff as well as you man and the close ups are appreciated! Next let's see how to match trailers to jigs. Colors, styles, etc.
