  • The Kawasaki Z650 is hugely popular now. It has essentially taken over the task of being the ultimate entry-level motorcycle from its predecessor, the ER6N. So why is the Z650 a better bike and why is it such a good entry-level sports bike? We find out here.

    ER6N looks better, but z650 performs better as in handling, brake, etc. ER6N looks meaner and more macho. Z650 looks too normal. I prefer ER6N. Z650 is priced too expensive, better get Z800 instead.

    I ride an ER6n (2011) and I absolutely love it. I'd definitely recommend it to everyone! I'm 188cm and have no issues with the seating if anyone's wondering. The power delivery across the RPMs is very constant, which makes it very easy to handle. It's an awesome bike for longer commutes. I've installed a windshield, but that's personal preference.
    Happy hunting!

    Personally I prefer ER6N. It's looks solid build. If it's a car, I would say the Z650 is more like a sport car and ER6N is a muscle car.

    Simple and direct review, thanks!
    And by the way, I'm upgrading from a 125 scooter and I'm going to get the Z650. I choose it because it looks like a great beginners bike and also great for small/medium height riders. The slipper clutch it also come in handy being more permissive to small mistakes while shifting. ;)

    Greetings from the U.S. :) Nice work on this comparo ;-) I own a 2009 ER-6N. Love it! I have ridden the Z650 but prefer the ER. Why? The compression ratio is just a bit higher on the 2009-11 ERs at 11.3:1.
    Kawi dropped it in 2012 to 10.8:1. Don't know exactly why, but imho, it's a difference you can feel for sure. Especially at a very spirited pace or at the track. I didn't track the Z650, but I do track days on my ER. The ERs engine DEFINITELY has a bit more top end smack! A bit more rudeness. Ha ha.
    If however, I had to choose between a 2012+ ER or the new Z650, I'd take the Z any day. For both of those having a 10.8:1 compression ratio, the Z is a better bike. Mainly due to its better suspension, brakes, refinement of fit and finish, frame AND its weight loss!!! Hooray for that man!! :-D

      @lilnips Год назад

      @@s.p.9582 do you think buying one used is okay? I really find it hard not to like it but the problem is it’s all used here. We don’t get the new 2019/2022 models. So I’m just concerned about buying them when most of these bikes have like 20k miles on them

    • @s.p.9582
      @s.p.9582 Год назад

      @@lilnips The Kawasaki 650 bikes are extremely reliable and well built. 20k miles is just getting broken in. Lol! 19-20k would not stop me from buying one at all.
      Although the Kawasaki 650 bikes can suffer A LOT of neglect, still check for valve clearance inspection history. That important periodic maintenance job is due at around 15k. If the bike was ridden pretty hard, the valves might even need adjusting. If not, then it's always good to do the valve inspection when it's due anyway.
      Besides that, it's just the usual things to check on any used bike; engine oil (too low, or leaks), crash damage evidence around all of the bike, fuel hose for cracks or leaks, frame weld points for rust or cracks, cables for frays, chain & sprockets for excessive wear, forks for leaking seals, rear shock for corrosion or leaking, brake master cylinders, hoses and calipers for leaks or cracks.
      All the basic inspection areas are easy to do on a naked bike like the Z650 too.
      Pro tip: Before I buy any bike, I always try and find the owner's manual online. I download it and read through it a bit. Just to see what I'm getting myself into (fuel requirements, engine oil requirements, maintenance intervals, etc) Very helpful info before spending all the money. Lol.
      Hope this info helps you :-)

      @@s.p.9582 this is by far the longest written reply I have ever received. Thank you so much and yes might be able to sniff through the minor stuff like leaks, rust or damages but how would I know if the bike was used (abused?) a bit to harsh or has been driven aggressively? I don’t want to fall into something I can’t handle if the dealership ain’t being transparent.

    Great comparative video ! But cameraman keeps zooming, unzoming, filming up and down, and back... It be better if he can keep it a bit more steady, focused on the bike rather than the presenter, and if possible, keep the two bikes in the same frame when the presenter is comparing two different features.

    Which would you recommend, ER6F or an XJ6 for quite a tall rider at 6'1? Used to driving the mt-07.

    • @blauschlumpf5778
      @blauschlumpf5778 4 месяца назад

      ER6F has a higher seat height, much better for your height.
      I had an XJ6 Diversion and I am 6'0.
      I had issues with wind blowing right into my face on the xj6 on highways.
      Also the 4 cylinder of the XJ6 really motivates you to rev it out and get into high speeds dangerously fast.
      Besides that the sound is non existent until you get an aftermarket exhaust.
      The clutch feel is so smooth tho, its a dream.
      I drove the ER6N in driving school. The stock exhaust note ist better than the one of the xj6. Also the engine is more relaxed IMO. The clutch is a bit difficult at low rpm
      So if you are looking for a more relaxed ride go for the er6, if your aim is to go fast and you like high pitched screaming 4 cylinder engines ( I started to hate the sound) then go with the xj6.

    Not a bad video mate but you were wrong when you quoted the power and torque figures.
    They were both very close.
    The er6 has 3 more hp and 2nm more torque than the z650.
    So to me they are broth on par because the er6n has s slightly more hp and torque but it is slightly heavier.

    The Er-6n is a very good bike. The only complain I have is the handle-bar. It just felt skewed. Oh! Yes. Since we're on the subject of handle bar, a bar end mirror will just make it so much better and desirable. The Z650 is just trying to look like what it is not, i.e. a supersport machine, while the Er6n is just being what it is, a town bike. But I have seen people smoking Superbikes like the R1 and ZX10R at the Melaka International Motorsport Complex. The Er6n was going sideways.
