That is very true, with the additional 1.3x crop the D7100 offers, the focal length of the lens is almost doubled at a pretty decent resolution. Great for long distance shots and macro too.
Thanks. I think it is, but lenses are more important. If you feel you won't be needing the full frame then it always better to invest in some nice glass!
Thanks for the feedback :-) Check out my D7100 vs D600 video which should finish uploading shortly, hopefully that should help. With current pricing differences I would go for the D600
Hey, I will see if I get time. However I have compared the D5200 to the Canon 650D (T4i) so you can check that out and it may give you a better idea of the general differences between Nikon and Canon. All the best :-)
Yes you do need to think long term but the camera market moves so fast in 2 years times the specs are out-dated. Personally I would invest in better lenses that will last you much longer and go for a cheaper body.
Cheers buddy :-) It does? Hmm from what I read although it has a HDMI out port, it doesn't give a clean feed. That is interesting, I will check it up. Thanks mate
Thanks buddy :-) It's definitely all about the glass and that's a perfect plan. You are better off investing in some nice glass which will last you many many years and buy the FX body when you have the cash. All the best mate
Lol it does make sense. It's the lens that determines how the picture will look like not the actual camera. A wider lens will make your face look stretched and weird which is why personally for portraits I use a 50mm lens. Now a 50mm lens is a similar focal length to what your eyes see, so to get the most realistic looking result a 50mm lens would do nicely :-) All the best
nice video ! do you personally think full frame is worth the extra money ? I am currently struggling wether to buy a d600 + one lens or a d d7100 and maybe 2-3 lenses...
nice review buddy...m goin to buy a dslr m a beginer..so wat u think shuld i go for d5200 or d7100....its goin to be my 1st dslr..i wuld be buying it after 2 or 3 months...so wat is yur suggetion?
I'm looking to buy my first DSLR. Now that D7100 has been out for a few months, the price has not really changed. And I doubt it will be changing considering the rave reviews it's getting everywhere (which also makes it more tempting to buy). Do you recommend waiting a few more months, or instead buying D5200, or instead D600?
Hi superSaftv, i've been watching ur reviews lately and i think that they're pretty good that's why i just subscribed. i just sold my d3100 and i'm looking to upgrade big, so which camera do you advice me to buy, the d600 or wait for the d7100, better low light capacity is a + on my choice, thanks in advance.
Thank you so much for all your reviews. I think I'll buy the D5200 but what do you think about the colored bodies? I've seen that the D5200 is available in Red and in Bronze, not just in Black. Thank you, I love your reviews
Hello. Great video. I have the D5200, and am thinking of buying a (used) D7200 ( I know, this is a D7100 review:), but I suspect the camera's are similar. I make spokesperson videos, and generally (Not always) shoot videos in green screen in my studio. The cost of the used D7200 is only $350. Can you tell me is the video quality much better compared to the D5200, which would make it worth the purchase?
Thanks for the quality video review. I am updating from the Nikon d90 to the d7100 after watching your video. The swivel screen is a very nice feature on the d5200, but not enough to sell me on it. I look forward playing with this bad boy.
One of the best review ever. Thank you for your video! Probably i'll buy a Nikon d5200 in the next few month. What do you think about the colorful body? I think Bronze is really beautiful.
I am thinking of purchasing my first DSLR. I was initially looking at the Nikon D5200, but then I figured, I may want to take photography a bit more serious and learn more, therefore, I turned my head to the Nikon D7000. However, the D7100 came out and now I am not sure what I should do. Should I buy on Amazon a used D7000 with a great lens or a used D7100 with a decent lens. Hence, I also want to buy an SD Card, tripod, & WU-1a to be all set. Btw what lens would fit me? -Luis
Another great review Saf! I'm getting back into photography and DSLR video, and will be investing in FX glass. I like the video specs on the d7100, and I might go with it and use the savings from the d600 to invest in glass. I think the follow up to the d600 in a year or two will be my next purchase, as I'm sure it will pass the d7100 in it's features, then I'll be able to work in full FX mode. I'll see how my wallet looks when I go to make my purchase, but I think I will go D7100 for now.
I have a 5200 and I will be looking to upgrade in the future. But I think, if I'm going to move up to that price, then I should just go a little further to the D610 or even the D800 as those are full frame.
Just my kid so far. I haven't jumped into filming for business. I have done a photo shoot and sold some landscape photos. They all were taken with D5100/5200. I believe you can still take awesome photos with D5100/5200/5300/5500. It all comes down to the person behind the camera. My goal is to upgrade to D750 about a year from now. I know that I will also have to invest into good quality lenses as well.
To add on the 1.3x crop mode. It crops the resolution to 18 megapixels (which is still fantastic). The overall crop factor becomes x1.95 (1.5 x 1.3). This means your 50mm ƒ1.8 becomes a 98mm equivalent and your 18mm widest zoom becomes 35mm equivalent. Nifty! Oh, and not to mention the full crop spanning focus points when in DX mode.
@SuperSafTV you spamming your own comments board? not sure what nikon is playing at. theyve just make it more difficult for some that have the intention of up upgrading. d5200, d600 or d7100. it would appear that they purposely disable the d600 in some ways.
hey hii...thank u vry vry much for ur vedio..actually m plannin2 buy a new dslr but m soo much confusd which1 to buy..as m new beginner i really want2 buy best of best dslr...as becoz aftr nw a dayz it happn whn we buy a product aftr sum month we get2 see again new product which ia more bettr dn wt he brought..soo as i really dnt2 regret again n again..soo tatz y i felt u wil really helpd me in suggesting which 1 is best 4m all D5200 plz plz plz do reply me..as m waitin forbur reply..thanks tc
Nice comparison. Will need to see some image comparisons before making a final decision (no low pass filter). If that is equal..will go w/ the 5200 to supplement full frames.
Good Review... There is not to much difference btw this two Nikon cameras... I Suggest show the same picture with different camera so We Can see the details and the sharper image , one than the other one...
hi there, can you compare D7100 with a Canon product that will worst to compare. cause I am looking to buy a camera but I don't know what brain and series should i buy. I did have Nikon D90 before and I kind of like/prefer Nikon more than Canon. but anyway can you advise for me, please !! cheers. P
Two important diiferent are missing in this video 1- HSS is supported by d7100 but not supported by d5200. 2- d7100 has flash can be a commander but at d5200 doesn't.
Hello. Thanks for your show. I think, I will go for the Nikon D7100, because I have some old lenses from my Nikon D70. I think I will wait for 6 months and hope that the price will fall.down.
I would like a battle between D5200 and the D7000 which is less expense than the D7100 and comparable against the D5200. Can not choose between those two
the d5200 it's a pretty impressive camera, but as a personal choice i will never buy another camera without an internal autofocus motor, the price is not a real issue for me but for a 500$ usd difference do i stay dx with the d7100 or do i go fx with the d600?
Due to a quarterly bonus (and tax refund) I almost bit and bought the D7000. I'm glad I waited until March like you said... This is going to be a BIG upgrade from my D3000. Thank you for the thorough "first look."
do you have any idea if its true that the d7100 has the ability to change aperture in live view mode?? if it does i think its a shame that not even the nikon d600 can't do that and i just bought one :/
Interesting. I were you I would hold on to the D5100 for a few months until the D7100 price drops a bit?
That is very true, with the additional 1.3x crop the D7100 offers, the focal length of the lens is almost doubled at a pretty decent resolution. Great for long distance shots and macro too.
Thanks. I think it is, but lenses are more important. If you feel you won't be needing the full frame then it always better to invest in some nice glass!
Thank you for watching :-) All the best
Awesome, all the best mate. Thank you for watching.
Sorry for the confusion, I actually meant "wide viewing angle" LCD screen for the D7100. It is not tilt/swivel like the D5200.
Thanks for the feedback :-) Check out my D7100 vs D600 video which should finish uploading shortly, hopefully that should help. With current pricing differences I would go for the D600
Thanks for watching Jamie, appreciate the feedback :-)
Not sure about that as yet, I should be testing one soon so I will have a look and see
Hey, I will see if I get time.
Good question, and I am just uploading a D7100 vs D600 comparison video so hopefully that should help :-)
Thank you, really appreciate the feedback :-)
No no, it is a DX 1.5x crop camera. However it has a further crop mode which lets you crop in 1.3x more.
From these two cameras I would go for the D5200 only because of the price difference :-)
I am not too sure about the tracking speed of the 39-point system tbh.
Cheers buddy :-) It does? Hmm from what I read although it has a HDMI out port, it doesn't give a clean feed. That is interesting, I will check it up. Thanks mate
Cheers buddy. If it's your first then I would say D5200 and spend the money saved on some nice lenses. All the best
Thanks buddy :-) All the best with the new camera!
Cheers dude :-) That's seriously awesome to hear, really appreciate it!
just uploading that now mate :-) Should be online shortly
Cheers buddy, you're always there with your support. Really appreciate it :-)
I am not 100% sure about this, will have to see if I get one in.
Thank you for the feedback, really glad it was useful :-)
Thanks buddy :-) It's definitely all about the glass and that's a perfect plan. You are better off investing in some nice glass which will last you many many years and buy the FX body when you have the cash. All the best mate

Yes, pretty much all Nikons after the D5100 do.
All great points my friend, thanks :-)
I Love your review format Saf, with text on screen of cameras specs. Very helpful for comparisons. Thanks, subscribed.
Awesome review! I just bought the D5200 yesterday and am looking forward to testing it out tomorrow!! :)
Dude your such a good reviewer that your making me interested in a camera where I'm only a smartphone camera person.
thanks for letting me know, have reported it and the video has been removed.
Very good review. Nice comparison
thanks for explaining about AF & AF-S / Built in Focusing Motor also.
nice video ! do you personally think full frame is worth the extra money ?
I am currently struggling wether to buy a d600 + one lens or a d d7100 and maybe 2-3 lenses...
Great Video, thanks again. Can you tell me what do you use to shoot these videos & whats the software to edit & insert the text.

Very informative video. Could you comment about shooting video with the D7100? Does it have continuous auto focus & AE?
Its one of the very good review I ever seen. Thanks.

Great review, packed with info in brief time. Thanks a lot!

your reviews are awesome, this is why i subscribed :)
keep up the good work
thanks a lot!!
Thanks. Just what I was looking for tonight. Though I saw this same video posted elsewhere on RUclips under a different username.
Thank you so much for all your reviews. I think I'll buy the D5200 but what do you think about the colored bodies? I've seen that the D5200 is available in Red and in Bronze, not just in Black.

Which should I buy? I'm planning to purchase 1 tomorrow.
Hope to hear from you...
Have you bought something?

I am graduating from point n shoot to a dslr, need an advanced entry level dslr. Preferably Nikon. Thanks. For such wonderful reviews.
Thanks man for your great informative videos!
Thanks for doing that man, very informative!
I have a 5200 and I will be looking to upgrade in the future. But I think, if I'm going to move up to that price, then I should just go a little further to the D610 or even the D800 as those are full frame.
Jeffrey Teeselink same here. you filming also ?
Just my kid so far. I haven't jumped into filming for business. I have done a photo shoot and sold some landscape photos. They all were taken with D5100/5200.

But you do get more noise in low light than you would with a full frame.
Jeffrey Teeselink yeah true dat iso is really better in full frame
Thanks for your info. More how many month need to wate for D7100 prise down.
You people can't read camera specifications from nikon website and compare them? Need a video for that...?
So the D7100 is a full frame camera originally but it can be used in a crop mode?
is he Jay Sean ?? o_O ? oh good review btw ! :D
Thanks buddy :-)
awesome review man!!
thank for advice, it help me

Nice comparison. Will need to see some image comparisons before making a final decision (no low pass filter). If that is equal..will go w/ the 5200 to supplement full frames.
Which one would be good for a beginner
do a comparison between the D5200 and D7000 VIDEO, because the D7000 shoots at a different framerate (24p). I would like to see the difference.
In your opinion which is the best dslr 5200 or 7100?. Pls suggest
Good Review... There is not to much difference btw this two Nikon cameras... I Suggest show the same picture with different camera so We Can see the details and the sharper image , one than the other one...

That these both cameras have the same sensor
What camera do you prefer?
Cheers :-)
Great review, very professional
Very interesting comparision because these cameras have the same sensor
Majestic review. Thanks buddy!!!!!! After this, going to buy D5100 and spend rest on buying good lenses. Thanks again :)
good comparison, I am just a beginner and am inclined towards d5200 more because of the price
thank you for the info.
I agree.. Same with D5100 vs D7000..
I believe you were correct, though. What adyel thought you meant was what I think they call an "articulated screen"
Great review Saf, but you have to correct this in your video: the D5200 DOES have CLEAN HDMI out!
Excellent Review. Thank you!

Has the price gone up on the D7100. The only available place to buy it here has it at a set sale price of $1,499
At least the price on d7100 has done
I have bought the d7100 now at last
Due to a quarterly bonus (and tax refund) I almost bit and bought the D7000. I'm glad I waited until March like you said... This is going to be a BIG upgrade from my D3000. Thank you for the thorough "first look."
Thank you for the video, but one mistake: D7100 doesn't have a vari-angle LCD monitor, just a fixed one like D7000. I have D5100, by the way.
what lens shuld i go for as i like nature photography nd sum in my college primisses?
do you have any idea if its true that the d7100 has the ability to change aperture in live view mode?? if it does i think its a shame that not even the nikon d600 can't do that and i just bought one :/
Do you have similar video for comparison D5100 vs D5200??? I would love to see it ;)
There is no any needs to do such comparision
The d5200 is much better in any way
It would be better to made comparision between d5100 and d7000
definitely one of the better reviews on the 7100 and a great comparison of the 5200. but I do think the pricing is quite fair for the 7100.
Does the video look better as the D5200 video sucks vs a T4i
Good review and yes that helps
