@@RiverCertified I will. While I have your ear. Maybe six months to a year ago, (not sure, horrible with keeping time like that). You were fishing somewhere and caught a fish that looks like a mix between a red tail catfish and a tiger shovelnose. I’ve looked for that video and can’t find it. Do you know the video I’m referring to? Thanks for your time, dude.

Hey Spencer. Normally I don't talk about my fishing because you are at such a higher level than myself. I noticed in the video it was full moon. If it was this past weekend then I call it shell cracker moon. Here in South Carolina , they are spawning. Got to a lake Saturday morning 7:00 am. Caught 30 in 4 hours. Kept the 10 biggest for my brother who is coming from Texas soon. He always expects that. I hold the lake record for large mouth at 9 pounds on this small lake in Aiken SC.
Sunday morning I get to an inlet on lake Murray, ready to catch catfish for myself to eat. Get there at 7:00 and the bass are going crazy. I put 3 poles with cut bait for catfish for 4 hours and did not catch anything. Caught 10 more bream on 1 small pflueger reel but threw them back except 4 small ones I kept for bait. I started thinking about all I have learned from you including that you don't like to fish on bright moon's. So I caught 8 Bass and about 40 nice bream/ shell cracker in 8 hours of fishing and not 1 catfish. Of course my catfish rods are Penn 5000 with 20 pound mono. I like the 10 pounders, got some in the freezer. So what I have learned from you and the weekend is, I think you are right. Sorry for the long comment but It was not just you. In my mind I thought I would catch catfish. Have to take what the lake gives you. Thank you so much for all you have taught me and I fish at least 1 time a week almost year round. I retire in a couple of years and then it's game on.

I laughed out loud when I read the title, my brother and I had a similar experience when we were young. We went on many weekend trips in the mountains by our house. One time we ate all our food on day 1 and couldn't catch a fish in the creek to save our lives. We resorted to building fish traps and even spears, but still could not feed ourselves. Hunger drove us home after day 2, saying it was just too hot to stay out. We talked about food all the way on our 12-mile hike back home!

Being an ex weather man for the air force, you outta look into the basics of reading a TAF(terminal aerodrome forecast). They're encoded for pilots, but the basic info you need is super easy to learn. Local forecasts usually give a forecast for a large area. With TAF's, you get a point forecast for a single location(usually an airfield or base). Will give winds, cloud coverage and height, beginning and end of precip, temp and pressure. Can be pretty handy! And free to access.

Hey Spencer, I've been watching a while now, but usually without sound on at night, I just enjoy watching your adventures. On this one had sound on.... Why do down on yourself? It was a great adventure, you caught your food, you didn't get stormed on, and did it all in God's majestic wonderland. It was a great expedition! Stay positive buddy.

I get hard on myself when I don't catch the target species sometimes. Guess this was just one of those times. I'm glad you still enjoyed the video though. Thank you very much.

I went to pickwick damn this past weekend and caught a 72qt cooler full of skip jack. Got them all vacuum sealed. Ready to hit our small rivers and do some over night fishing trips

Glad you are finding river water deep enough to float on! Have you ever started out on a stretch of river and come to find yourself up and out of your kayak every 50 to 100 yards to drag it across the sand?

    • @RiverCertified

Most definitely. I keep an eye on river levels to try and avoid that though.

Found a big school of monster brown bullheads yesterday . 16 to 18 inches . 36 of them found their way into my smoker . Should be good eats ! Standard brine with maple smoke .

Sorry you struck out my bro. Good to see. I'm not the only one lol. Still yet to pull a kitty in this year. So far I've caught 12 different species of fish and yet to bring in a cat. At least you still had a nice channel cat and that's something. Also. Glad it didn't rain on you lol.

@@RiverCertified I love your videos man. I've been following you now for about 3 years I think if not two. Just recently got the ascend 12T. And definitely been hammering out the fish. Just got to get them kitties in the boat now lol. You're an inspiration to a lot of us, my good friend and for me your kayak fishing tactics really helped improve my game. Now if I could. Just put your catfishing tactics to use. Hahaha. Jk, they're just not biting up here yet. I guess I've always been better with the kitties at night time. Anyway. Thank you sir
