- I've said it before and I'll say it one more gain.. We've been needing some rain in the Midwest.. Like really bad. Whelp, how does that one song go? When it rains it pours? It definitely poured. 75% of rivers, spillways, puddles, what have you were blown the eff out. So I used my handy dandy google tool to check water levels and found that.. This southern spillin'puddle was the only one that was reasonable. So I drove my happy ass down to rip a few.

Caught a channel rat from the top of a local spillway that absolutely kicked my ass, broke my cheap ass real, the heavy current made it seem like I was fighting a 30lb fish. I'm trying to work my broke pole with a drop net to get it up the wall. It was a comedy of errors, but so much fun.

I would have guessed the braid had failed until he showed the flouro leader broke. Snaggy water with sharp objects have their way with braid.

Those carp are an absolute blast to catch…. We fish for them on the Chemumg River in western NY.
I used to live on the creek in Ithaca Nebraska. Caught really big fish for that sized creek, the Wahoo creek. Let me know, my daughter still lives there.

St Louis rivers are high too. Pond fishing and Lake fishing is where I'm at too. The smaller rivers are ok as well since they go down fast.

Being in Colorado, never really had any issues with snakes. Did however have an issue with a turtle last year. Alligator snapper. Never been more scared reeling in and trying to release a catch🤣😭

Heartbreak! What knots are you tying for your braid to leader and leader to lure? It looks like you're tying a clinch knot to the square bill but it's hard to see. Try an Alberto or FG knot for your braid to leader and a Double San Diego Jam Knot for your leader to lure connection. I have tutorials for all of them on my channel. Those knots are worth learning since you routinely hook up with absolute monsters.
Too bad you broke off on that one flathead, he looked heavy. But the same reason they're there makes it tough to pull them out of there, those flatheads know every nook and cranny. Who knows what's down there besides rocks and trees, maybe a rusted fender from a '39 Ford, old barbed wire, etc. Kinda helps protect the resource when you think about it. Anyways, good video as always, thanks and take care out there.
