If you need to zoom in your camera to a specific point on the tree just put your hand under that point so the camera will get good focus
To get your camera to focus up close on a bud, get rid of the background to which it wants to focus; put your hand behind the bud or have the sky be the background.

Good video . I will. have to play it several times to get it all in. It seems a three year goal is the right concept in developing the tree. . I plan on it . Slowing the vegetative growth I take it is what you recommend .. that would be convenient in the respect of the size of pot / grow bag . Till i can set up a winter storage container or greenhouse for winter storage.
So far I have learned that fruit does grow on multi year wood . And I believe you instruct to renew older branches . That's the same way they do it in cherry cultivation 5 year life cycle of a branch . Then remove a single branch at five years old . Do that every year

I viewed one of your vids last year when I wasn't even into figs (vid about plant winter protection). Had my first fig this past late summer, and now watching vids from you, Harvey, Ben, Danny. I have a dessert king standard trunk is 4 feet, now Im thinking I should bud graft a few top buds to lower then cut it down, excited & scared.

Hi Ross, great content! You're the Winter Soldier of fig trees! 😊. We inherited a mature fig tree that had to be transplanted in mid-July while fruiting - not ideal. While its still in a similar environment,Its losing leaves as expected from the shock. Would you advise to cut it back to get the tree to focus on the repair rather than growth at this time (August)? Any of your videos you can suggest? Thanks!

Oh my gosh, here I am just to learn about figtrees. I just wanted to buy a figtree and put it in the ground and wait a year or three and then eat figs. After having watched a lot of videos about figtrees, I think I will just give up. It seems one should obtain a degree in "figgery" to be successful.😢
Hi Ross, not sure if this question is out of the realm or not but here goes. I bought a violet de Bordeaux and it has 2 branches which are forked aboit 2” from soil and they are growing horizontally about 12-15” each. Can these be staked to pull the branches “up”? What are your suggestions. Love your channel. Thanks in advance

It would be really interesting to see a sequence of photos of the same dormant plant over several years before and after each pruning. This would be photographed from the same angle and distance so as to look like a time-lapse sequence.
Thank you for this comprehensive video. I have Violette de Bordeauxs in 25 gal containers and could not find anywhere correct pruning method. At the last of this video you have a tree with only 2 branches, saying it had too fast of growth and you chose not to prune. One of my trees is identical so my question is how do you obtain the correct growth habit/structure for this situation?
Excellent video! I feel like I've learned so much and you explain things very clearly! Last year I left my house that had a fig tree, I really enjoyed having the tree but didn't really understand how to take care of it. I was able to enjoy some fruits but felt like there was much more potential. When I left, I took a bunch of cuttings and was able to propagate 5 young trees. I did this last June and today, they're in medium sized pots and growing well. 2-3 of them look very healthy with 2 thick trunks forming, the other seem a little weaker but growing nonetheless. My question is, would you recommending the rejuvenation process for these at this time? Is it too early? I'm guessing for the healthy ones, just let them grow for another season. In general what is a good month to perform the rejuvenation pruning for new trees? I'd love to send you pictures if thats possible.

Hi, Ross! You are doing a great job with these videos. I have bought two fig trees - Brown Turkey and Francesca (Czech licenced variety) but they look like single 60 cm sticks with growing tips and that is all. I just miss video what to do with such young figs. I need advice regarding the pruning. How to cut, how to start with such plants to get nice fig tree. I couldn`t find such a video. Hello, Wojciech! I would like to offer my advice, if you would like it. Since your trees are so young, it is important for them to develop strong roots. Don't prune them this year. Let them grow as they wish for this first season. Once branches and leaves form, I think it would be appropriate to break off the growing tips to encourage the energy of the trees to stop growing upward. I wouldn't do anything beyond that this year. Next year you may be able to prune lightly. God bless your efforts!

I have proplem with my Fig trees i have farm in desert where is very hot in summer this is the first dormant season of my Fig trees but all my trees grew as A bush only 4 inches height of trunk and the spread in lots of side branches whch non of the is growing vertically. I dont know how to do my structrual pruning

Ross could you look into click pruning and see if you can interpet it for me. It's done in specific apple tree varieties . The guy that developed it for world wide distribution is italian and works for the University of Washington and I dont really understand his instruction
