Is a charge pipe and intercooler necessary for a stage 2? I currently have a dinan intake and vrsf catted downpipe with an exhaust coming soon. Also if my car 2021, is getting my ECU unlocked a MUST? it seems like a lot and I just need a small tune I don’t want anything that would push the boundaries and cause reliability problems.
@@ee00mmmmm charge pipe & intercooler isn’t necessary! Those are more for higher HP reliability. Intercooler is more for cooling & charge pipe is for long term reliability but on the gen 2 it rarely breaks. Unfortunately because BMW put crazy protection on their cars you will likely have to send your ECU out to get unlocked. Check your ECU build date, it should be written on the ECU itself. If it’s June or July & after you’ll have to send it out! If not you can probably do a regular bench unlock. JB4 piggy back tune is another great option to consider if you don’t wanna have to send it out!

i have seen people running near 700 to the wheels on stock trans or xhp but ur saying that it can slip even at 500 hp? or wats the limit of xhp stage 3 flash? plz lmk i had this question!!
So you can run XHP stage 3 at any level, but I was told by a few people who have tried it that on M performance cars like M340i, it puts a lot of stress on the driveshaft & repeated launches could snap the driveshaft. If you’re racing or launching a lot stage 3 could be dangerous but I do know a lot of people who haven’t had issues with stage 3 because they don’t launch a lot. My friend with a 540i has had Stage 3 XHP for 2 years with no issues. It just depends if you wanna play it safe or go all out! As for the trans itself, it can slip at any horsepower level above 500ish. I don’t know if slipping actually hurts the trans or if it’s popping out of gear and back in to prevent it from hurting the trans, but it’s only ever happened to me 1 time. Yes for sure there are cars running over 700 HP on stock engine internals & stock trans, but there is likely a lot of stress on the trans which in the long run could mean breaking something. STI Mikey just tuned a car that made like around 750 with stock everything axels, driveshaft, engine & trans. What I’d say is the more you modify without upgrading these parts the more risk you have to break. If you wanna go bolt ons & turbo & XHP stage 3 without building anything, I think you can be fine as long as you dont beat on the car over & over again. Give it some time between launches or pulls & all that! It’s been done before for sure, but I just heard from experienced people to play it safe if it’s your daily driver like mine is!
bro lost any validity after the downpipe rhetoric. I drive a Apeks built catted downpipe and I am racing it again lambos and tuned M cars with an upgraded turbo and DS2.5 flex setup. It's a choice its a diff of 5hp maybe with a well made cat pipe. you are right about the air intake though, a cotton filter is all you need until you get to VERY big turbos, turbo inlet is a bigger restriction.
Ive never seen anyone pushing over 700 with a catted downpipe actually. Everyone who races just gets a catless one & maybe does open dump. You'll literally melt your cat with all the flames you car shoots. I've seen it happen before. Thats why people run those exhaust dump turndown pipes, because flames will hit the ground instead of burning the car's undercarriage components.
@@GearsAndGains1 these cars control EGT using a combination of fuel and wastegate/turbine speed aswell as timing VERY fast, I am making around 650whp according ot F80paul and Rob(BM3 owner) with a 200 cell, never had any EGT issues in florida. This is also with E50, if you are making that with race gas or 93 with an even bigger turbo it might get hot enough to melt a cat I suppose... but it is not a major flow restriction on a 200 cell.
2021 jun+ car with catless and tune $2600 if you use kies service for Femto unlock this include MHD. (DIY service will probably be cheaper by around $600) Then you can use that to buy trans tune to have both ECU and TCU tune. This is just a rough estimate but I’m guessing it will cost just around 3k in total with stage 2/Tune M340i. I do recommend having flex fuel kit to push a little more power.
It depends how you go about it. Stage 2 can be cheap if you do just downpipe ($300) and MHD off the shelf tune for a few hundred. If you get downpipe, custom MHD tune, and flex fuel kit, it can be about $2000-$2500. Custom tune is always better than off the shelf tune but for people who just want a little more power with not a lot of money an off the shelf tune is fine. MHD has presets in their app that you just click & boom you’re tuned.
And yes tunes will void your engine warranty but most of the time if other parts of the car are defective, a cool dealership will cover it like lights, mirror motors, etc.
