My mom went to be with the Lord on Oct 12, 2019. Since then, I have been playing this song every single day; I can't imagine what love God has for us. And my mom is in the best place now because she kept the faith.

Im sorry, I hate to break it to you but that is not a biblical statement. God did not gaze upon our wretched state and see anything worthy in us. We are not worthy of His grace, nothing. We are radically depraved, evil in every way. The only thing we contributed to our salvation is nothing but our great sin. That's why the song sings "...to make a wretch His treasure." It is not because of any merit or inherent worth in us that Christ died, but out of the sheer grace and sovereign will of God. Our salvation is a manifestation of divine mercy and love, not a reward for our own deeds or worth. We were not redeemed because of our righteousness but despite our unrighteousness. We only deserve the mighty, just wrath of God and nothing else. God’s love is not something we can earn or deserve. It is a free gift, offered despite our unworthiness. God bless you.

Jews now insist that before Christs return there will be a restoration of their political sovereignty and they will profit from thinking that Yeshua as they call Jesus was a King Messiah and Passover livestock offered sacrificially in a reinstatement of rites and comprehensions Jesus abolished whip in hand to the chagrin of religious authorities
The Lamb of God is of God and not of the Jewish Passover and He takes away the sins of the whole world and not the misdemeanour of the once Chosen People. Slaughtering anyone or anything by hate cannot be claimed as loving motivation of God. It was pagans and evil Jewish monarchs who killed children for Moloch and John the Baptist reminded them all that we should not call Abraham our father. The remarkably unfitting understanding of sacrifice is bandied about like the word love in far too many worship songs of Townend and once unpacked they reveal a starkly
distorting and thoroughly inadequate mirror with which to view the death rather than the saving life of Christ based upon debased rituals of the Judaism which hung Him on a cross in the first place.

This May 10th I will have been saved for 25 years. For 25 years I have struggled with my identity in Christ and many times failed and fallen in that struggle. Then, several weeks ago, I heard this song, and finally began to grasp that identity, as if I had turned corner in the road. It’s been many hard years, but I see that all the awful times were just the Almighty bringing me to this place, a wretch who He made His treasure. There are no words to describe the love of God in Christ.
Same here and it's usually at a different part of the song each time and this time it was "ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers". The whole song helps to bring me back to his heart

It's impossible for me to sing or hear this song without crying. I will never understand how deep God's love is for us, but this song helps me to understand a bit more. It is so brilliantly written. I put it right up there with Amazing Grace.

My fave line in this is "my sin upon his shoulders. Ashamed i hear my mocking voice ring out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held him there". Not easy to sing. I resisted believing it for years... I think Satan tries so hard to convince us all that we are not sinners, and that we are 'good people'. (Satan also seems to try to convince us that God does not love us).
If you like this song, you may like a tune i wrote that is based on the same christian principle (that God loves us despite how we live like His enemies, as we all are trying to be god instead of him).
My song is called "The thief on the left...." Its about how we all sometimes have the same attitude as the thief who mocked Christ on the cross. We need to aim to have the attitude of the other thief, who begged for mercy, believing Jesus would accept Him. (The song is titled "God help me to sing gratefully". I hope that you realise "The MAN" on the Cross is the "Second PERSON" of The "ONE BEING" of The only 'true' and Holy Triune, "DEVINE GOD". So we can see that The Loving JUDGE, HIMSELF, paid the penalty of Man's sin and rebellion, on the cross against his CREATOR, in the garden òf paradise. And for all those called, who repent and believe, HE bore the penalty of our Inherent sin, and our daily sins and rebellion, by the shedding of HIS Blood, and transferring to us HIS righteousness, forgiving us, cleansìng us and making us fit for heaven, because of HIS Grace and Mercy. This hymn has its wires crossed around the nature of God and what happened at the Crucifixion . Consider how God cannot be both wrathful and loving at the same time and why indeed would a loving God demand that His Son be tortured in order to lift sins away from man. How is this an action filled with love. If sin has been taken away by such barbarism why is it still present in the world and as corollary why indeed does God need to send anyone to Hell if sin has been erased by the blood of Christ. The argument of the hymn is crooked and ignores the clear presence of the Risen Christ at the right hand of God making intercession for all mankind and denies the plain truth that people have their own cross to bear throughout their lives and that both baptism and partaking in the Lords Supper may be said to affect sinfulness. The Crosstianity and Penal Substitution imagery of Townend and others are quite inadequate as expressions of Christianity but as long as they are passed along and sung confusion and error about the central sacrifice of Jesus life will spread and persist . I for one reject the words of this hymn for the reasons here enumerated and urge others to examine their consciences whenever it is sung. Heretics have always spread their falsehood through the medium of music. This one is no exception.

Your argument comes out of a place of discomfort with the truth which unfortunately leads you into heresy. On another note, Penal Substitution is well supported in scripture. Just go look at Colossians 2:13-14.

Have you never read Colossians? Especially 2:6-15? His death on the cross brought forgiveness for all our trespasses, "by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its LEGAL DEMANDS. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross." All of this is done SO THAT we can put off the old self (3:9) and put on the new self that is constantly being renewed in knowledge of Him(3:10). This isn't some irrational emotional move by God, but a logical, calculated and restorative one. Please hear me when I say that we do agree on one thing: deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Christ. I find great joy and motivation in following this command precisely because of Christ's work done on the cross, in my place. That is not heretical. That is orthodoxy.
