Finally, someone is honest. I have never had more length retention than when I started doing nothing to my hair. I do nothing but water daily or, at the very least, every 2 days. I moisture and seal enough on my wash day. So for the week, I just hydrate daily. Sometimes, I make 2 wks. I have been natural since 2016. My hair never touched my shoulders. My bangs didn't grow past my eyebrows because it kept breaking. This past year, since I stopped using a lot of products per other youtubers and left my hair alone, my bangs stretch past my chin. The back stretch past my bra strap. I focus more on hydration instead of moisturizer. I couldn't be happier.

Sister is right!!! Ask any man with shoulder, mid-back or waist length hair what is the secret. Leave it alone: spritz with water every few days, oil the scalp a bit once or twice a week, and massage with finger tips. That is all. Maybe unbraid shampoo/condition, rebraid & cut ends every 2-4weeks. My hair went from shoulder length to top of shoulder blades in 2 months. Be gentle with take downs, and you will be fine!! We, as Black Americans, have been taught to "Fry, dye & slick it to the side!" Well, the results are alopecia, bald spots, and damaged scalps. Why not try something new??

I MIGHT start branching out and wearing my hair out. I am 6 inches away from having waist length and grew my hair by literally doing nothing. I’m talking no manipulation whatsoever for months on end. I don’t even wear it out. My hair is ALWAYS covered at work and at home. I don’t manipulate it unless I’m finger detangling to prevent matting. This may be controversial but I don’t wash it as often either. I wash it once every 3-4 months (this last stint was longer because I was in hustle mode) and do everything I need to do with it at that time. Then it goes back under cover. Yesterday was the first time I’d straightened my hair 6 months + months. I only did so because I was worried about my hair locking and I’m not ready for that life. I am a bit extreme but it’s working for me. Low to no manipulation works. It simply works.

As a Natural of Years, went to Relaxer & Pixie cut in 2023 and back to natural. Bleached more times than I can count, also used Box Dye, my hair is pretty resilient unless my health (Iron is very low) or my water intake is poor. I have learned my hair loves Shampoo, light protein treatments, nothing with silicone in it unless I am using heat, I went back to grease as a sealant (only when my hair was longer doing twists or loose braids) after using a more natural moisturizer. Do wash and go's and just leave my hair alone! My hair has grown max 13 inches and now I have big chopped again because I needed a change in every respect. I am down to 2-3 inches! Literally when I just left my hair in twist or plaits for several days, my hair grew the most. When you're not constantly manipulating your hair, it will grow.
My method is I shampoo my hair, detangle, smooth and twist my hair using water and hair grease. I keep my hair covered with a pretty scarf at home and out in public. I don’t remove the twist until the next wash day, which is usually after a couple of weeks.
This routine helps me retain my length and keep my hair healthy. Easy and stress free.

A girl I knew asked how I grew my hair so long. It was relaxed and a bit past shoulder length. I told her I leave it alone and she looked at me like I had two heads because she loved to experiment with her hair. It was always cute but it wasn't the healthiest I knew it could be and I could see a lot of split ends from excessive straightening I guess.
I've since stopped relaxing and became a straight natural and leave it in pin curls or wrapped around itself in a bun unless I'm leaving the house. I was almost at waist length and then I got sick and started slacking on my hair care and it's mid back again now after cutting the fried ends. Plan on going longer between straightening and the inversion method in the next few months since summer is when I get the most growth to see how much new growth I can retain by September when it cools down here
Edit: I also want to state that if you have thick and/or shoulder length or longer hair, probably shorter, it’s important to detangle your hair frequently to prevent matting. If I don’t leave the house for three weeks, I’ll take my hair down, comb or finger detangle then put it back up once a week. I do it to prevents “dents” when I wrapped and now creases from the alligator clips (my hairs too thick for pin curls clips and it would take too many for small sections 😂) or stress from the scrunching if I I’m doing space buns for curls. I’ve seen it happen multiple times. It grew, but wasn’t being combed so it matted and I helped with the detangle process so I know that they were straight up mats, almost to the point of locing not minor tangles

The key to growing long hair It's really about preserving the hair on top of your head by keeping it moisturized! (I use the word preserving because hair is really dead) I'm still trying to find a wash routine that works best for me! I get mixed up though with some ladies washing hair every week and some saying don't wash for up to a month???I do believe low manipulation is the key along with keeping the hair moisturized to prevent that excessive shedding that our hair is prone to since its naturally dry! I have 4 C hair and I'm seeing results in as little as 3 months doing all these things, not to mention I took a break from wearing braids, which for me kinda had me ignoring or not prioritize the hair underneath specially when life gets in the way!
Also, taking Vitamin like zinc and iron to help with the shedding! My hair is neck length and looking and feeling healthier than ever, the shedding is much less and therefore I'm on the right path to growing my hair nice and long!!! I'm so happy to see so many black women growing their hair long and really taking pride in it! I'm teaching my 6-year-old daughter to love herself, her black skin and hair and how to better care for it all!

I think it'd be good to say that I also do very little to my hair, but to its detriment. I hate hair management, so hydration, moisturizing yada, all these things are strangers to me. And much as I want my hair to be down to my booty, and my fro to be out past my shoulders, I've noticed that my hair growth has been stagnant. I've been at about the same spot for almost a year. My hair is always dry dry dry, and I don't cover it when I sleep. Needless to say, my mom showed me how her hair grew about 6 inches or perhaps more in the past couple of moths since she started using these diy treatments, oiling her braided hair every night. Doing a comprehensive wash day routine once a month. And it inspird to attempt consistency at this hair thing again.
But I think that's essentially what people mean when they say "I do nothing to my hair". It's not literally nothing, it's just not doing a whole bunch of hairstyles all the time, but still doing maintenance for the hair's health. It might seem obvious, but for us negligent girlies who wonder why our version of doing nothing (literally) to our hair does not yield the same luscious results as those who "do nothing", but actually do something, it's important for us to really note the crucial nuance.

Tia I’ve watched all your videos and I just saw they’re one of the best I’ve ever watched in the YT university. However, I’ve some few questions to ask.
1: do you ever use deep conditioners on your hair ?
2: during your monthly washes, do you use clarifying shampoo ? Since all your wash days you actually use your aloe amla cleanser or mild foaming cleanser?
3: I saw your video on how to make a leave in conditioner, but you hardly use the leave in in your moisture routine, why ? Is it not necessary? Even the butters you hardly use it to seal the hair after you use the penetrating oils is there a reason ?
4: in some videos you said you lightly spritz your hair and oil every day and in others you said you do that every after that which one is the right one or perhaps you changed your routine ? Also in some videos you said you gently clean the hair every one week in others you said every two weeks which one is right ?
5: do you ever use a protein treatment?if yes which brand please?
My hair dries out quickly no matter the amount of leave in, oil, and butters I use to seal after hydrating. I also use silk scarp please help.

Thanks for sharing your routine and advice. One question on how often you recommend shampooing. Near the 5 min mark you say you wash every 1-2 weeks but near the end you say twice a week. Years ago my hair did grow when I left it in braids/twists and washed every 2 weeks but now all the natural hair gurus say was 1-2x per week. Just wondering which approach you follow. Thanks and in addition to an amazing head of hair, your nails are out of this world! 😊

      @tialynn1111  3 месяца назад

Yess I mention in the comments I meant to say twice a month💕
I would do what’s best for you, when your hair is in braids, you can wash them in braids 1x a week and your hair will not get tangled as twists do.
But the key is to make sure make sure that your shampoo is Diluted!! Over washing can strip the hair. So make sure it is diluted orrrr just wash with fresh aloe gel!!! Thank you!!💕

Are you physically active? I workout five times a week so I wash my hair and it keeps the scalp clean. What would you suggest?

    • @tialynn1111

Hi yes I walk 5000 steps daily and exercise at least 1x a week.
Yes what are you asking? How often should you wash your hair?
I’d suggest only 1x a week with mild shampoo for type 4 hair. If you need to wash more, only wash with pure aloe gel and rinse w water
After adding water, always follow up w adding avocado oil 🥑

I had issues with a lot of the aloe Vera and curl cream build up.
I do wash my hair every other day with color safe products and so the oils from the roots down. I don’t have type 4 only: 3c - 4a hair.
When I do the twists, they tangle after many days…it’s a pain. The braids might be the move.

Ok I had to cut them all off since this video because I was moving and 2 broke 😫but I do have few videos that show my routine.
      Key is to:
      -Not use them as tools
-After wash hands, apply lotion or oils to your hands/nails
-Don’t frequently polish and remove polish from nails (it weakens the nail)
-Keep a weekly routine of filing the edges and ends

Is there a way you can still do styles and still have length retention. I like to define my curls at the begining of the week and do a hairstyle with it towards the end just wondering if thats ok.
