I haven't started on it yet, it happened late yesterday, but my Husqvarna lgt2554 while cutting my grass all of a sudden oil went every where. I shut it off immediately. I think, hope, it's the valve cover gasket? The mower was running great when it happened. Great instructional video. Thank you, John
Thanks John! I hope all went well with your LGT2554!
Thank you for this video, I have a very similar engine in an old MTD from the 90's that us doing the same thing. I have a gasket and now feel much better about initiating this repair. Kudos.
Glad I could help, hope it goes well for you!
Did the same job today and used a razor blade followed by a very fine steel wool and then brake cleaner to get that aluminum surface cleaned up. Since those valve/rocker arm gaps wander over time and need to be re-gapped I went with the one piece OEM gasket this time and sprayed it with copper “spray-a-gasket” (to seal any imperfections/scratches in the aluminum caused during cleanup). I used RTV four years back and didn’t like the amount of preparation scraping & cleaning it took. The black RTV sealed fine but is a hassle to clean up when re-adjusting so hopefully the one-piece gasket with additional copper spray sealant will be a good alternative. I don’t understand why these valve gaps wander over long periods of time.
Awesome! RTV can be a pain, I'm keen to try the 'Right Stuff' but can't bring myself to part with the $'s...
Thanks mate, confident now to give this job a go
No problem mate 👍
did this stop your leak?
Sure did!
