I helped my buddy get a really nice Blackbird here (SoCal) for $2500. They aren’t particularly rare, but only made from 99-07 so they are getting up there in age and miles.
Agreed. The modus operandi is to sell the bike first then check on its condition. First step is to hire a permanent mechanic on-site that will also travel to auctions. Second step is to get the mechanic to check everything before putting it up for sale. Third step is to base the price on the actual condition of the bike not on best market price.

Theres a blackbird on display outside where you can drive up to it at the Air Force Armament Museum just north of Eglin AFB in the Florida panhandle. There's one parked outside at the Battleship Museum in Mobile, AL as well. You can head to the beach after checking them out. I think theres around 25 or 30 on display in various places and I've seen 3 of them. The one kept inside is in better condition than the others, though.

Very common issue with the fuel regulator, the way to check it is to see if there is any fuel in the pipe that goes to it, it's fitted on the end of the fuel rail, and shouldn't have any fuel in the pipe
Yeah you would think he would hire a mechanic and have them prep a sold bike, and when slowly go through the bought bikes. Just seems like it would be less headache and he would know the customer is always getting a safe product. Heck if really slow the mechanic could do oil changes and tire changes (brought in off the bike). I always preferred that myself vs handing the dealer the keys to my nice motorcycle.
Gavin Humphryes - that’s a great point. Though I think their current business model is working out pretty well, by being careful to source good running bikes typically only needing basic minimal maintenance they can handle, allows them to keep overhead down & offer much better prices then other dealerships. That said, having a good certified motorcycle tech/ mechanic w/ tools on board can really be an asset & also offers up the ability to offer customers in-house repair/ maintenance services, which can provide an additional revenue stream for their business.
The Blackhawk is real beauty! You gave the guy a great deal. You stuck to your word, and made the deal right... you can gain a loyal line of customers for that... God bless you, brother!
I enjoy watching you work on these motorcycles. You like trying to get them to work and do get satisfaction when you do. I plan on coming to see you when you open back up. I respect the fact that you kept the original price and did right. Keep up the good and honest work. You are a credit to your line of business.
I always attempt to fix everything myself first, there's only so many things that a problem can be. Bikes & cars aren't spaceships. With basic knowledge & tools, one can pretty much fix anything with some research. Iv solved some issues by reading forums & watching RUclips. Haven't had to take my bike to a shop yet. Touch wood!
Hi there Bikes & Beards,I've been enjoying your videos for 5 months now( here & there) & thank you for all your great work you do & your motorbike collection looks absolutely Awesome,I have my first motorbike,a Yamaha sr 125cc & I'm loving learning & I'm already wanting my 2nd motorbike, with some more power, happy riding & I love your videos..
I had one in black, it had bigger ejectors in carburetors and good exhaust. It did 155 hp and 134Nm at the rearwheel on MJPower dyno. Great for long hauls, also in track.
For my first bike I ever bought, and have, is the Black Bird, that looks exactly like that, spent 6k, and had 9.8k miles, such a smooth bike with a booty load of torque, I love the bike!!
Loved my blackbird. Racked up 100k miles in under 3 years. Eats chains and sprockets though and the engine runs on the hot side but lasts forever because its almost impossible to run it at full chat.
I dont know how fast the Honda was, but a friend of mine worked with the Military a long time ago. He told me the Blackbird could make it from Ca. to Wa. in 45 minutes WITH 2 refuels. Thats fast.
It is hard sometimes for these people to get that first job. I don't think that SRK Cycles is looking for a master tech. just someone cheap to fix the easy stuff and someone that has some training. I worked as a Agricultural Technician for many years and was not a master tech for a few years but had a big head start by getting my Degree from my Community College.
@lane johnson i did 8 years working in a large garage as a fitter, i started there as a garage hand and cleaner, i turned up to work one day in a car i restored, the boss saw it and asked me about it, i had changed the engine, gearbox and interior aswell as some other minor parts, rebuilt engine etc. he called me into the office the next day and i started work as a fitter, pay rise and a yearly supply of overalls and work boots etc. i have never been to a tech school or trained as a mechanic, but ive restored and rebuilt a few bikes and cars. what skills i had i learnt from my grandfather who was a boiler maker and my step father who was a marine engineer. the last vehicle i restored was a ex millitary land rover from 1977 back to how it was when it first entered service.
you need to keep trying and you will get there, i started learning mechanics at 20 on youtube and now after a few years im a full time mechanic, its all so overwhelming at first but as you start to understand each system its becomes a lot simpler, bought a bike last week, rode for two days and its died, been all week after work tinkering learning about how it works(im used to cars, and this is a modified bike), taking it all apart and paniking thinking its the ecu or something expensive, turned out to be a bad earth to the ecu. going to clean up the wiring and get back to riding
I saw a 2002 when I was looking to buy a bike in may with 35K miles, the guy was asking $3.500. I ended up getting 2013 T100 instead. But watching this video, makes me one a get one now
I just nearly brought a zx12r with really low miles as I missed my old one. but after reading up on it bikes being sat for years all rubber perish go hard and brittle so it will end up being a running nightmare
@@UnarmordBrig yes the wire harness connector on the 99-00 model years is a known fault and will cause all sorts of grief. I have an 01 and it is the best built, highest quality bike I have ever worked on or owned.
When he said about honda couldn't get the pump for him reminded me of me having a company working on my home furnace last year. They said it was to old and they couldn't find the part anywhere. I googled the part, like 10 showed up on ebay. Ordered one, furnace fixed.
Can I make a suggestion? Make sure the bike runs before putting it up for sale. If it doesn’t and it needs fixing, add the cost of the repair onto the sale price; then you won’t be out of pocket. Just a thought
Well the problem with that is you can’t price out a bike because of how much you have into it. You have to price out a bike for market value value. How much we have in the bike is irrelevant.
@@BikesandBeards I disagree with your logic as it is only half of it. You need to know what you will have to put into a bike when you buy it to evaluate whether or not it is a sensible purchase. If you have bought it cheap, but still have to invest in it, better to find out before you put it on the market. Some bikes are good for retail, some you move on to other dealers, but always know what you have in a bike. Market values are a guide. If you have something perfect 18 years after perfect became rare, you are in another market.
How is the amount of $ you have in it irrelevant? It is the number 1 factor. If you buy a bike for $2500 then put $500 in it and the market value is $3000 then how can your business survive without turning a profit.

I've owned a 02 Blackbird in NYC. Really enjoyed that bike until it got stolen a few yrs later. 😣 It was the smoothest sportbike I ever owned! Very fast!
As a owner of a blackbird for over 21 years something seems suspicious about this bike. Plugs don’t match the miles on the odometer. I’ve put over 20k miles between spark plug changes and they never looked that bad. Seems like the previous owner may have swapped out the odometer. These bikes are extremely reliable and need very little maintenance.
Plugs looked like crap because the fuel was sooooo old. If you saw what the bike looked like when we took it apart you could see it was a low mile bike. Very very clean
Dude I've been over this entire bike now I can promise you this thing was kept in a garage all of its life. Its clean as can be. Cooling system was DEFINITELY 20 years old though 🤣🤣🤣🤣 all squared away now
If you really want to get that picture of a Blackbird Honda in front of an SR71 Blackbird, I know they used to have one down in Huntsville AL. They have a beautiful little Air & Space Museum right next to the highway. You can't miss it because they also have an actual freaking Saturn V Rocket outside. Was down there on business about 12 or so years ago. They have an SR71 Blackbird outside that you can walk up to and touch, I believe it's close to the parking area. You might be able to get the bike close enough to get both of them in the picture. That's if they still have it there. I'm sure you could call and find pictures of it online. Congrats on the bike and have fun.
Stopping buying old low mileage stuff that has sat and stopping buying utter shite would help as well. If they stick to buying used bikes dealers don't want on their shop floor they'd be fine but... They want to. Make money and are clueless about what they don't know. Pay a mechanic 50k a year salary and an ongoing training budget, yes it's under the average for a place paying flat rape but.... Guaranteed income is attractive. Do a percentage of hours sold to customers as a bonus and its all good and they will make serious money.
Pretty sure it's not everyday does he need a mechanic. He knows the basics well enough to figure out if a bike is worth being sold (safely). Hire someone like Joe for $$$ a month, or go to him once every few weeks for $? Or hire another mechanic of questionable skill for $$ a month? I'm pretty sure he'd get a mechanic fast if it meant going to Joe was losing him money buddy.
You should have tried RHS fairing off, 2 bolts holding radiator out, leave hoses connected and swing the radiator out of the way and secure with cable tie. On a CBR6 you can access the Spark Plugs from there maybe you can on a Blackbird too. Worth a try before taking Seat,Tank,Airbox off.
I got my Blackbird a few years ago for $2,000. It was in rough condition, and I've put a lot of work into it, including replacing the subframe, entire charging system, and rebuilding part of the main wiring harness along with all the normal maintenance items (air filter, oil, chain and sprockets, forks rebuilt, etc.). I'm getting close to 70,000 miles on the clock, and this machine still pulls like a freight train! I hope that the work I've put into this fine machine will keep it going for many more tens of thousands of miles.
Sean you need to hire yourself a full time mechanic man. He can check over all these bikes before you sell them and fix any issues like this that come up. Would probably end up saving you money in the long run.
Think they are looking for one boys. It's hard to find a good motorbike mechanic looking for a job. The ones I know are either in jobs already or have their own little garages...
Even though im not a christian, I really respect the fact that you put a verse from the bible in every video. Its rare you see people believe in God these days - its really nice to see.
Great video. I'm in VA. If you ever head out this way let me know. My fam is in Reading and I've meaning to swing by the shop and check it out one one of my trips there. You should come to an EvolveGT trackday with us. Pocono or PittRace is close by
Not as rare as people make them out to be, most owners just hang onto them forever because they don't need much of any maintenance and will run 250,000+ miles easily. I personally know like 5 guys that have one in their garage in my relatively small town. Total sales in the US is like somewhere between 4000 and 6000.
Their uncommon. It was my dream bike and I never saw one in person till I purchased mine. Still haven’t seen another one. I watched the classifieds like a hawk for 2 years to find one. Finally snagged one. I still can’t believe it’s mine.
One of the most common here in Finland, but one of the most uncommon to modify, but I'm building one to a streetfighter 😎 you can find that from my channel 😉
Edward's airforce base in california has an sr 71 at the air museum there. It's an outdoor plane museum right off the street that you can just walk into with no working personel. You can literally walk the bike in, even drive a car in and get the pic of the bike right in front of the jet
Tom Quinn, I can only agree. I own a Honda CBR 1100 XX Blackbird and it is an amazing machine! The raw and brutal power distributed so gentle. Love it.
These are the videos that I like the most, I also have a few older bikes, Inc the super blackbird xx ... I'm restoring one that's covered 80.000 miles...wish me luck 🤞😂
Great video guys, thanks! P.S. Sean, There are currently seven Honda Blackbirds on CycleTrader.com from $3298 to $4899, only one of them has over 50k miles if you want more of them.
We have an A12 oxcart here were i work. if you get another bring it down here to North Alabama Ill sneak you in for some pics. We have done it with our bikes.
Yeah I find that odd too but he is making extra RUclips money. So one has to ask is he hoping to make it RUclips big with a million subs or be a motorcycle buyer and seller...what is he trying to be in life. Maybe both! But if buying and selling bikes make then money then the RUclipsr thing is a hobby and should be second to everything else.
@@Meekerextreme I'd guess the youtube money as he already tried to get in on other well known channels such as Hoovies for the extra subs. Sure he's a nice guy, but no one likes to see someone 'playing' the part of a bike dealer. If he focuses on the shop, gets a good mechanic and starts thinking of quality over quantity he has a chance. Good advice does seem to bounce off of him though.

Would be an interesting source of content for the channel too - surely that has to seal the deal... Come on Sean!
my thought exactly...
Nice scooter and you treated the buyer right that is the building block of a good business
I love you channel. I watch your videos every day.😊
" I spent way too much time on this thing" welcome to the life of a mechanic lol
Touch wood!
All you need is time
Commend you been in this situation locking in a price even lower than it should be and being a man and sticking too it god bless you man
The key hanging out of the gas cap with the spare key just raking on the paint was making me cringe and want to jump through the screen
if you could jump throuh the screen wouldn't you do it on a different website?
@@jaromor8808 lmao thats a good one.
The right thing to do ?? said no motor dealer ever :) Watching from Sweden, you guys rock !
I had one in black, it had bigger ejectors in carburetors and good exhaust. It did 155 hp and 134Nm at the rearwheel on MJPower dyno. Great for long hauls, also in track.
The Museum is the "Steven Udvar-Hazy Center" of the Smithsonian which is at the Dulles (IAD) airport.
That thing is so clean and damn near new! 1,600 miles, I sold my 2000 Blackbird with over 80K on it….I do miss her sometimes…
Couldn’t believe his local Honda dealer couldn’t source a genuine fuel pump for it, it’s not like a Blackbird is a grey import model...
Can't beat the old school gravity feed!
Man, I enjoy your videos, from Puerto Rico Merry Christmas to you and your family, you are blessed and highly favored!
Surprised to hear they're rare over there. They're ten a penny here in Ireland. Great bikes though and do very high mileage if looked after.
Mr Enid funny mine does not run hot and still has original chain and sprockets!
I dont know how fast the Honda was, but a friend of mine worked with the Military a long time ago. He told me the Blackbird could make it from Ca. to Wa. in 45 minutes WITH 2 refuels. Thats fast.
You need to hire a young person fresh out of MMI to work on the bikes.
We are working on that
@lane johnson Agree
@lane johnson great idea!
Good on you bro ! That’s the way you treat your customers 👍🇨🇦
I saw a 2002 when I was looking to buy a bike in may with 35K miles, the guy was asking $3.500. I ended up getting 2013 T100 instead. But watching this video, makes me one a get one now
Sitting around kills them, low low miles isnt always good!
Couldn't agree more. The bike once going will most likely have sever issues in the near future
Just like a Ural, Harley or BMW.(what I've owned) Parking kills them, riding them is what they need...
JamesAllmond how does parking kill them? Genuine question
@@BikesandBeards You suck but, your living your dream. Great job

Anytime ethanol gas is left in a bike with and in tank fuel pump for an extended period of time there is a high probability it will not work.
What’s a extended period of time?? 🤔
@@allgasnobrakes919 I left ethanol gas in one of my old carbureted bikes for 4 months and had to clean them due to gunk build up from the gas left in the bowls.
@@DownSouthable damn 4 months...Basically, the whole winter...I try and start and run my bike @ least once every 2weeks during COLD months just to AVOID all that shyt you had to go through....
I've owned a 02 Blackbird in NYC. Really enjoyed that bike until it got stolen a few yrs later. 😣 It was the smoothest sportbike I ever owned! Very fast!
How do you find these bikes so quick, I check the site daily and it never really changes
my best friend has one of these.....all i can say is awesome!!!!! and he has had it like 20 years!!!
Also 50000 miles is absolutely nothing on a Blackbird.... they're bulletproof. Guys in Europe have 100k miles on them plus....they don't die.
I've got 85,000 on my 98 VFR interceptor
My grandfather was one of the designers engineers on the motors of the SR-71 worked out of Beale air Force Bill ledger miss him
As a owner of a blackbird for over 21 years something seems suspicious about this bike.
Congrats on the bike and have fun.
dude, get a damn mechanic. You are ruining your reputation. being honest isn't enough on its own. You need to be good, not just nice.
He seems to be doing damn good so not sure your right there buddy.his mechanic is joe lol.plenty of bike dealers dont do in house mechanic work.
I'm pretty sure he'd get a mechanic fast if it meant going to Joe was losing him money buddy.
where's ur own motorcycle dealership?
@@sarjanAbong Downstairs. I live above it.
You should have tried RHS fairing off, 2 bolts holding radiator out, leave hoses connected and swing the radiator out of the way and secure with cable tie. On a CBR6 you can access the Spark Plugs from there maybe you can on a Blackbird too. Worth a try before taking Seat,Tank,Airbox off.
best bike I ever had, still rides like a charm
I have had 2 busas, a 14 and 2 Bbirds..#2 is the last bike i will ever need
I was just about to comment the same thing. Eventually his operation will get big enough that he will want one.
Think they are looking for one boys. It's hard to find a good motorbike mechanic looking for a job. The ones I know are either in jobs already or have their own little garages...
The is an SR-71 on static display in front of the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama, right off the I-565.
I had a dream that I was going to make a video where I drove my ZX11 to Koka Japan to see a real ninja.
Ooowwww that’s a good one
You guys are honestly the nicest fellas ever. Wish you sent bikes to Australia
Pocono or PittRace is close by
Is xx really rare bike in usa?? it is one of the most common bike in Finland.
it's rare even here in cyprus..i only saw few of them...1 was like it just cake out from factory
If you want a really rare Honda I've got a 1 of 300 or so 2006 Honda CB600F Hornet also known as the 599.
You can literally walk the bike in, even drive a car in and get the pic of the bike right in front of the jet
now you know why the boss keeps old farts like me around till we die -----experiance hard to buy off ebay lol
Oh those Blackbirds are nice bikes. That dude got a good deal on it. Thanks for all you do guys.
It hurts to watch this video. The same kind of hurt I get when I'm watching a Three Stooges film.....
Real life man
Got two SR-71 blackbirds where I work, its a great looking jet no doubt and a lot bigger than you expect.
You should have kept that one for your own.
Tom Quinn, I can only agree. I own a Honda CBR 1100 XX Blackbird and it is an amazing machine! The raw and brutal power distributed so gentle. Love it.

We have an A12 oxcart here were i work. if you get another bring it down here to North Alabama Ill sneak you in for some pics. We have done it with our bikes.
It is not only the miles but also the years. 18 year old bike has 18 year old electronics
i daily mine and have never had an issue
The EFI bikes had an issue with the ground block in the main harness that will kill the ECU.
I would have loved to get my hands on that. Maybe I need to start following your for sale list.
Yeah you should
"I wish I had more time, wish I had more than an hour" - proceeds to tell lengthy stories on camera instead of actually working on the bike. :P
Mine is '97 yes hard to find here in the US got it 6 years ago from internet only dealer in Chicago with 9k miles for $5k had to put a new rec/reg in this year I'm keeping it until the wheels fall off! But that won't happen!
