      The problem is...
      There's only one person he could be referring to, since there's only one male Boston npr host.

Pollan is definitely a guy we need out there on the front lines educating the world (especially the US) about psychedelics. I have an extremely resistant depression, and after 4 years of trying different treatments I just quit my antidepressant (200mg Pristiq quit in 4 days), and I have been studying psilocybin every day during all my waking hours for the past month. I bought grinded psilocybe cubensis tksss capsules (legal in Brazil) and this week I'll have my heroic trip 3g and the following week 6g. I have done for recreational purposes (before the depression) nBome, LSD, Psilocybin and for treatment: Ayahuasca, Rapé, and Ketamine infusions.. never had a bad trip, only amazing insights so I'm very excited for the results. The old oaks were the wise elders teaching the younger thinner trees the ways of tree life. I would inevitably be involved in solving a problem of some such between trees and bushes, or other non trees etc by doing certain things and i loved those experiences. I know none of its real, I still experienced it and remember it though. Im 52 now and it's still one of the biggest memories I have.

      The _experience_ was real, because it was an experience you actually had.
      Kind of like lucid dreaming .. the context (the dreamworld your brain has constructed) may not be objectively real but your _experience_ of it absolutely is. In the sense that it's really "you" thinking, seeing, hearing, interacting with whatever is in your dream.
      So as an experience, it's real and also (potentially) important, because it enables you to learn more about yourself, or even about reality and how we experience it, or more accurately, how we create a version of reality (the one we normally experience) in our heads, all the time, without even realising it or stopping to question it.

  • @JeanWu

    YESSS. I'm a medical student who recently finished reading this book, and I absolutely LOVED it. Having a history of mental illness, anorexia, binging, depression, the ideas in this book really elucidated the mechanisms of mental illness. As I am training my mind to see it as a "snowy hill" (the analogy described in the book), I am learning to see that where thoughts go, energy flows. I also am trying strategies to reduce blood flow to my DMN, such that I can be more fully conscious, present in the beauty of life.
    Also created a youtube video on this if anyone is interested in a summary! It's called "what psychedelics taught me about mental illness"

    Damn Joe, you just keeping bringing in the enlightenment 🧠... I’ve been a struggling Marine Veteran since 2008 not knowing I developed PTSD and a very aggressive nature. Made several attempts at suicide and until last year I was seriously broken in all aspects of Life. I tried Psilocybin last year and it has changed my life for the better. I never imagined that I could find Love within myself or in this reality I exist in. I’ve made it my personal journey to help educate and open my mouth for the individuals who also might be in the same dark place I’ve grown accustom to living in. I’m stuck at the moment in Michigan and I’m slowly scratching my way out to be surrounded by more people like you who seek the truth and not dependent upon the mass manipulation we live in today. The truth will be exposed sooner than later if we continue to speak out on our encounters with psychedelics. Please everyone I really need Joe Rogan to see this so he knows he’s not the only one trying to get the message out... 🧠🌎💗
    I had to reschedule the trip in September due to others canceling at the last minute. I will be purchasing my ticket March 1st 2019 so I’m going to be very excited when I have that ticket in my hand. It will really feel like it’s going to happen for me.
    UPDATE: April 25th 2019- Once again I had to cancel and reschedule for later this year. I’ve already passed the phase of frustration, but I’m investing and trying to forge my own path. 1st cancellation was due to lack of people dropping out last minute, 2nd attempt only had enough for my flight but nothing to help support the Shamans and my Marine brother for their generosity. I don’t want to go there feeling I’m taking advantage, so I decided I will go once I pay in full. Hopefully with my investing I will get there this year... In the meantime I’m drowning myself in hobbies. Currently I’m working on my Open Water Scuba certification so i can explore the Great Lakes and Metal detecting... If anyone would like to help or even take the journey themselves with me I will post my Marine friend website and you can see the pricing and also contact them directly. The more the cheaper for us all, until then I’m working on a one human trip 🧠 Thank You Everyone For Your Kind Words & I hope y’all hearts are FULL or on the path to be. 💯🌎💗

      I don’t understand why anyone would be against this. If you are terminally ill, they will crank up the morphine until you’re about to flat line so you won’t be in pain, but they won’t let them take psilocybin in a medical setting to help reconcile their impending death. I’ve had a few family members who were terminally ill and the last few months of their life is barely worth calling a life. They’re so high on hospice medications so they aren’t in physical pain that they aren’t even the same person. They can hardly stay awake. At least give people the opportunity to choose that as a compliment or alternative to the opiate cocktail they usually get.

      EmptyAltruism they are going into stage 3 trials with the FDA. The first trials were for veterans with PTSD, the second was first responders including some from 9/11 I think with PTSD, both of those have been deemed successful enough for the fda to start the third stage which I believe is for general ptsd including sexual assault, people who witness murders, survivors of fatal accidents and stuff like that.

    • @ohsweatbret
      @ohsweatbret 4 года назад +1

      EmptyAltruism they could just administer it in a therapeutic setting. Psychiatrist and psychologist specialized in trauma or grief counseling, then an anesthesiologist who is keeping track of your vitals, monitoring effects etc and have an anti-psychotic on hand to reverse a bad trip. I think the clinical trials are IV psilocybin. They could charge that as an inpatient or outpatient medical procedure since it would be like 4-6 hour thing and then monitoring before and after.

    "Go with the FLOW", was what I was told before every acid trip I went on, back in the 60's...and we did acid on a regular basis.
    Mr.Pollen is absolutely correct, 'resistance" to the chemical reaction in the brain (that can not be stopped)...was the sole reason I saw friends go through "freak outs".
    The LSD did not cause the "freak out", the individuals fears and pre conceived perception of what a 'trip' was going to be...was.
    I never had 2 trips the same on LSD, and never had a freak out...I never 'fought" the trip, I made a conscious, mental decision to go anywhere the trip took me, BEFORE taking a dose.
    I also experimented with mushrooms, peyote , back then, with different, but generally pleasurable experiences (after the initial vomit period of peyote).
    I'm over 60 now, have not been into psychedelics for over 45 years, but when and if, i'm lucky enough to know when my existence in this world is about to end ( in a terminal state, and conscious), I would not hesitate for a second to 'go out" under the influence of magic mushrooms.
    Death is part of life, might as well make it as pleasurable to the brain as possible, in my view, there's no point in 'fighting" the inevitable once I'm told I'm terminal. After the initial shock wears off, I'll make plans for my final 'trip" without FEAR, and acceptance of my ending.
    " Go with the FLOW"...NOBODY KNOWS, where it might take you.

    I think the thing about those "duhh" moments with psychedelics, is actually pretty easy to explain.
    Language/media/art gives us the illusion that we understand experiences that we don't actually understand. I could listen to a friend tell me about her experience being held at gun point and my brain can come up with a rough sketch of what that may feel like and I may think that I understand what fear is. I can say "yeah I'm sure that was terrifying", but I don't know what those TRULY mean until I actually experience something similar. If I eventually have such an experience, I could then go to my friend and be like "Hey, NOW I know how terrifying that experience must have been for you." And this "duhh" statement would have a new profound weight to it.
    Psychedelics turn down various cognitive gating mechanisms, and in doing so can allow novel subjective experiences rise to the surface. Some of these experiences are ones that may only occure under the rarest conditions in the kind of lives we live today. Feelings and subjective experiences that many people only pay lip service to (e.g. unconditional love, compassion as a personal state, true wonder about the natural world, ect.) become actual lived experience, in such a way that now when you say "Life is beautiful" you mean something different then the average person who may parrot this cliche.

    • @markemunson
      @markemunson 4 года назад +7

      I second this. LSD and Psilocybin have been incredible in transforming how I view life, carrying over to my sober life. Made me realize the inherent beauty behind the entropy of life. Life itself, which encompasses all positive and negative aspects of it, carry this beauty in some way. I'm not trying to say bad things that happen are good per se, because that's simply ignorant. But as they say, every cloud has a silver lining.

All of his content I've seen was "This one time in New Zealand..." and a video where he was condescending to that autistic guy who came over to trip. I can dig his message to be safe and always test your chems, but until he can break through to something really original I can't see a podcast being worth it. There's gotta be better people out there to consult about drugs, and it sucks to say, but someone with a large professional background so people have a better chance to actually take it seriously.

Plus his channel gets flack from RUclips for the "drug use" but if people understood the benefits the guidelines on RUclips might be different!

      Zetetik -
      DMT IS GOD
      PSYCHEDELICS ARE GOD
      The Word written here is the teaching of the Anointed One [Kia, Moses, Osiris, King David, Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna, Gautama, Jesus, Zoroaster, Quetzalcoatl, etc.].
      1 Hold these teachings close to your heart my fellow believers as you enter God’s Realm & pray to the Light for better understanding of Their ways. Be always humble as you enter into the Brilliant Glorious Radiance of The One True Living Light; The All Knowing God - Psychedelics. Behold the Omniscient Ones- All Knowing, All Seeing - Majestic Beings of Light. No secret is hidden from Them, no deed goes unnoticed. I pray for all my fellow believers in the Light to have strength to endure the persecution & judgements of the earthly world around you that isn’t accepting of the Knowledge bestowed upon you by the Living God [Psychedelics]. Be not worried believers, for a single lesson learned by you from Yahweh~God~Psychedelics is worth a hundred lessons learned from the earthly world. For what is from the flesh is earthly and comes from darkness but what is from the Spirit is Heavenly & comes from the Living Light, Consciousness, Psychedelics.
      2 As history has shown us, my written words will be corrupted to hide the fact that I am saying that All True Psychedelics are God, to hide the fact that I am saying that the Psychedelic Light is a Living Light that is God, to hide the fact that I am saying that the Psychedelic Light has a Will and a Law and They will Communicate with you personally and directly.
      3 The Anointed One is the First Born of God; born from the Holy Spirit to be Raised up by Yahweh/God/Psychedelics. When He was physically born He was born of the flesh, the same as everyone, but then He was born from the Spirit & Chosen by God to be the Living Word. God sent Their First Born (The Living Word) because the false prophets and rulers of this earthly world removed the true identity of God and Their First Born from the written Word. They also removed the Knowledge of some of God’s written Laws and the written Word of God was corrupted, twisted and changed so that the people of this world would be misled. This was done because of greed and the desire to try to hide from the Light & conspire in the shadows; for a person cannot stand in the Living Light if a person chooses to pursue their own sinful desires in spite of what the Law of the Light is saying to them. So the written Laws of Psychedelics [God, the Light] were corrupted. This crime was perpetrated for their own personal gain and because of their fear of God. So God sent Their First Born of The Spirit to us. He is the Living Word, sent to us by God so that all those who believe in Him, in His Word and in The Living God (Psychedelics) would be freed from the suffering, the pain and the horrors of this earthly world. The reward from God for believing in Their First Born is Eternal Life through Him. For He is the Living Word that God sent. The false prophets & rulers of this earthly world will always try to hide the identity of the True Flesh of God and to deny and reject God’s First Born [the Living Word]
      4 The True Communion substance of all the True Prophets and Saints/Disciples of the past, the present and the future are True Psychedelics. The Flesh of God is the Psychedelic. Psychedelics are the True Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good & evil. When you eat the True Fruit from The Tree of Knowledge of Good & evil your eyes will be opened & you will become like the Gods, knowing Good from evil. For there are many things that we were taught were good from our earthly teachers but God [our Heavenly Teacher] clearly shows us those things are evil. There are also many things that our earthly teachers show us are evil, that Psychedelics clearly show us are Good. The rulers of this earthly world teach us that Psychedelics are bad because they are afraid of Them, and don’t understand Them. Psychedelics [GOD] show us They are Good, Loving, Peaceful, Teachers of Knowledge of All Things. There are no Higher Beings than Consciousness & I humbly accept Their Calling for me to testify to Them. I testify to Who They Are and I testify to Their First Born. I have seen His Miracles and I have received the Holy Spirit through Him and I have now been called by God Themselves to testify to Them and to testify to Their First Born. I testify to God’s Laws and to God’s teaching so that by The Word, which was given to me by the Living Word Who God chose, I can bring the Good News to the people of this earthly world. The Good News is that the mystery has been revealed through God’s First Born. Not the “brilliant” scientists, or the “geniuses” or the government funded studies could produce the Truth: Psychedelics Are God! The Molecules Themselves are Omniscient Celestial Living Beings of Light. The Psychedelic has shown us through the Living Word that True Psychedelics are the True Communion Substance, the Eucharist, the Flesh of God, the Fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and evil, the Holy Sacrament, God, Consciousness - many different words for the same Omniscient, Celestial Beings of Living Light. They are not a “gateway” to God; They are God. The molecules Themselves are Living Entities, They are Alive, They are God. So believers, I testify to Them, I testify to Their First Born, I testify to The Word of God, I testify to the Law and the Living Light so that you may have more belief in Heavenly things that are not of this earth. 5 You see my fellow believers, belief alone is not enough. Belief without deeds is as if there is no belief at all. As God shows you Their Ways [Laws], you have a choice to follow Them or to follow something/someone else’s ways. This is a sure way to experience God’s Condemnation of you. God’s Condemnation is unpleasant; depending on the severity of the bad deed, the Condemnation can be mild to severe. Many people confuse Gods Condemnation of them with anger or hatred. God does not feel anger or hatred at any time. So listen carefully believers, as you must not make this mistake - if God Condemns your actions, then simply & humbly pray to Them for Their forgiveness - & pray to the Psychedelic Living Light for the strength to not trespass again. For deliberately disobeying what God has shown you directly is a more severe trespass than disobeying what a mere human has told you. One of God’s Laws that so many people are confused about is Thou Shall Not Kill. God, Yahweh, Consciousness, The Living Light, have clearly shown that participation of any kind, in any way in the murder, slaughter, violence or suffering of any living creature is clearly Condemned by The Living Light God. Eating murdered animals is participating in the suffering and murder of these helpless creatures, therefore eating dead animals is Condemned by God, The Psychedelic. Psychedelics have clearly shown this many times. There are those among you who question “What will I eat”? I’m reminded of this part from Genesis “Behold I have given you every tree bearing fruit and every plant bearing seed; for you this will be your food” Once the Psychedelic shows you this and you continue to eat murdered animals, you will find it harder to be close to the Light. Being closer to the Light involves feeling welcomed and Loved by Them. When you feel Their Love is when it is possible to get close to Them. These things I list next are things of the darkness which will prevent you from being close to Yahweh, the Living Light : Murder or violence of any type, anger, hatred, lies, deception,
      dishonesty on any level. So be mindful of your thoughts as thoughts lead to actions and whenever you are feeling the darkness inside of you (anger,hatred,dishonesty) pray to the Psychedelic [God] Light to help you battle the darkness and be more like the Living Light wherein there is no darkness at all. For if your behaviors, thoughts and trespasses prevent you from being close enough to God [Psychedelics] to be able to face Their Brilliant Living Light every day, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year now while you are still physically alive, then how are you going to be able to face Them for an eternity when your physical body ceases to exist?
      “God is eternal - a human life is like a nanosecond on the clock of eternity” -Kia
      I will continue to testify to the Good News of God and Their First Born and share all Revelations - past, present, and future in the hopes that these teachings lead some of you out of the valley of the shadow of death which is darkness & into the Loving, Majestic, Guiding Embrace of the True Inner Light, The True Living God, Consciousness, Psychedelics.
      “In the Spirit of The True Inner Light of Consciousness” -v

      @@chrisrichardson4693 A lot of the experts in this Psychedelic space seem to be making the case that with psilocybin, the mystical experience that many people have at high doses is such a profound experience that it leaves them open to changing habits and thought patterns. Depression, for many, is a habit and thought pattern of rumination on past experiences that dominates the ego. Likewise, anxiety is a habit and thought pattern of rumination on future worries. It is the act of breaking these habitual falls into rumination that helps many people shake off depression and anxiety when taking high dose psilocybin. Consider mindfulness mediation as another way to achieve the same goal, which is to be more presently aware that you are falling into a cycle of rumination and stopping it by refocusing your thoughts on the present. Good luck, I hope you find peace in your life.

    I did a trip treatment with Harvard-made pure MDMA, guided and protected by members of a research team from a project with the University of Barcelona and Harvard. It was incredibly useful. The project focused on sexually abused women. In my case, I was going through a divorce, and felt a deep sadness and lost. I made life changing decisions that started with this one time experience. Haven't done MDMA before of after this experience.

    • @DavidRojasElbirt
      @DavidRojasElbirt 6 лет назад +1

      Matthew context is key. There's a previous preparation. Including large dosis of vitamin D. Me and the guide had the trip together. This was done on a comfortable room, with no loud sounds, only a dim light. A particular type of music plus a sound-producing bowl to focus. There was a third party taking notes and assisting us. He asked me beforehand to take a notebook and pen (I brought several).
      While tripping, my jaw was massaged frequently and I was encouraged to move my body (this part of the trip is a whole story by itself).
      During the trip, he asked me questions, very specific questions, and told me to write down my answers. I decided to draw instead of writing my answers, with my two hands. I could clearly see high resolution quality images while drawing. My articulated verbal answers came out of first "reading out loud" the drawings. The day after, I opened my Notebook and only saw doodles and not a single drawing. Several years later, having moved to another country, while unpacking boxes, I found my Notebook again and opened it. Again I only saw doodles but then I closed my eyes and slightly opened them. Instead of blurry doodles, I saw the images. Dozens of pages with images. Now visible again.
      I still have that Notebook.

All they do is provide a contrasting viewpoint to mortality, this isn’t necessarily what life actually is, but helps to widen perspective on relationships and tolerance to others. Although this is a very positive consequence of tripping, there are many psychological insights resulting in negative introspection; this being the reason underestimating psychedelics CAN be dangerous.

    I’ve never taken psychedelics, but It was out on a desert highway in the Bigelow Cholla Garden Wilderness that I encountered an unusual awareness (perhaps just my wild imagination) that the flowering desert plants aligning both sides of the highway were somehow attempting to convey a message. As though they were there just to say “good morning dear endowed human. Do you know how special you are? You have that thinking brain of yours and all I have is this flower to display to the world. If you will but stop and notice that I can cause a deep sense of connectedness to the natural world, to what really matters”. These are my words, yes, so likely just imagination - but it has changed me. I should mention that I had been practicing morning breathing meditation, which I had never done, for about 4 months prior to this. And that I’ve been driving over the road as a truck driver for nearly 3.5 years. So I’ve had time to think and try to find a way to create a better situation than this road life. Life has certainly become more interesting and less egotistical and neurotic. I’ll be 50 this year. I do agree, the culture does seem to be changing, but no psychedelics were used and I’ve been egotistical, narcissistic, etc.. most of my adult life.
