No soil or growing medium needed! I used wheat seeds because they sprout fast but any grain will work!

Another good video. I also malt some grain to feed to my birds. Often I don't wait for the shoots to turn green. The enzymes in the sprouted seed offer excellent nutritional benefits not available in unsprouted seed. The protein and sugars are much more available too. My ducks and chicken actually prefer sprouted (malted) grains so I soak them a sprout them as a portion of their feed ration.

I use Chinese food take out containers and start seeds for about 5 days. On the 6th day, I feed the greens, clean the container and reseed it. The seeds are about 3/4 of an inch deep. Every day I rinse the seeds, allow them to drain into a larger tray which I can dump. The size of the container would depend on how many chickens you feed every day.

Sprouts are not only good for birds, but also humans. Two days after sprouting, pour in some sugar and yeast. Let it ferment until ready and then moonshine. Ethanol is a good solvent, whereas the head and tail also contain useful yet poisonous liquids.

I'm looking for feedback from those who have fed fodder as the main feed for chickens long term. I want this to work for us but I just watched a video of a lady who seemed to do a lot of research and found fodder not to be as nutritious as everyone seems. Long term are the chickens healthy, do they produce good eggs at the same or better rate? If so, I don't really care what scientists say.
