If you had tuna, add it to cold cooked macaroni, plus boiled eggs chopped, I use mayo, but I guess you could use yogurt. I call it tuna Mac, lots of protein, very filling for good sized portions.
Carrots are great for snacking because they are sweet. You could also shred a bit of carrot into your pasta sauce to add nutrition and a nice texture (let it simmer so they get soft).
I'm a little late to the party but I just watched this video, and subscribed, and I have to say it's so nice to finally find a good Canadian version of budget grocery shopping. I followed along, adding items you purchased to my online shopping, and my bill came out only $6 higher than yours - not bad for a year's worth of inflation!! THANK YOU BOTH for all you do to help people with meals, budgets, weight loss, everything... I so appreciate you both!
Great video and as others have said, it’s great to see a Canadian budget haul. The only thing I would change is local/free range eggs for about the same price ($3.50/dozen) Would really like to see a vegetarian budget menu. 😎
Great Money Saving Diet Tips.🙌🤝👍👍 A few more that I've learned over the years: Ethnic/International aisles have a lot of lower cost options. Both for choices(breads/meats/vegetables/fruits/snacks) and for cooking sauces and spices. You might even find yourself liking never before known new tastes.🤷🏻♀️That puts variety into your diet and stops boredom.😉👍👍 Plus(also often found in the Ethnic Aisles); Legumes/Beans(dry or tinned) are inexpensive. When added to Rice(or Pasta), it becomes a Complete Protein. Both of those items are often very inexpensive, last a long time storage wise and can be bought in sizes to suit each person's budget or needs(There are Huge Bags of both that can be bought for less than Fresh Meats, and last for Months!). They can be added to smaller amounts of more expensive choices to stretch out the cost involved. (Like added to ground beef for chili or a Rice/Beans or Rice/Beef Burrito or Dish). I hope this is helpful for Everyone.🤝❤🍽😋
It would be nice to see more budget friendly shopping and meal planning on this channel. There are so many frugal living channels from the states and very minimal channels here in Canada. Thanks for sharing this one Nicole.
I love carrots!!!I snack on them before and with dinner. A guilt free snack for grazing. Then of course,I crave sweets afterwards!!! Drives me crazy! I try to choose healthy options as much as possible, but still tend to indulge on junk. Your videos and tips help me out a lot. Makes me realize its ok to treat yourself without punishment. Thanks Nicole! Love,Loren🤗
Hi Nicole & Kyle. ( Hope I spelled his name correctly) Thanks for this video. It is very helpful. It's so hard to plan healthy meals on a limited budget. Your timing was perfect. I look forward to seeing what you make for the week out of your $20. Have a great week ahead. 🌸
One idea. I’ve substituted plain great value tomato sauce for the more expensive pasta sauces. I just doctor it with spices and it’s delicious! The large can of sauce is around a dollar!
Good for you! This is excellent for so many reasons! New Subscriber now (and yes I clicked on the bell too). Will also share on my FB feed as I know others who can benefit from your advice, from a financial standpoint as well as from a weight-loss standpoint. Thank you for sharing! 🤗
You are heaven sent, only thing i would personally change is the yogurt to milk and bread to flour, and only because i dislike yogurt and cooking is my coping mechanism so daily bread baking is good for the soul
I want to know what Walmart you go to. Where I'm from the Walmart in Ontario are like $6. I stopped shopping at Walmart because it was so expensive. Carrots are like 3 a bag at Walmart. Wherever you are it's so much cheaper then where I am in Ontario. Literally no lie I spent $78 at nofrills for literally 10 items. It's insane trying to feed my family. My grocery bill is like $300 for 2 weeks.
25 a week would be more realistic where I live and then I could add some beans and rice to make a complete protien. I would also add milk. With 3 of us under one roof I could buy meat, add some frozen fruit and veg because my whole budget would be 75 dollars. With my stocked pantry I could make chilli, some oatmeal cookies and some buns for the chilli. I'm going to challenge myself next week.
Shes canadian… i live in montreal and im able to do exactly that. Not necessarily 20 buck but quite close (averaging 26$/week) within my own food preferences. Don’t discourage and i hope for you a bright future with no restrictions 🙏💪
Prices must have gone up or I'm paying the Island tax because that yogurt is $2.97 at my walmart, eggs have gone up slightly but everything else is about the same for us here
LOL...good lord, the light on, in your hall, in the back scared the crap out of me, I thought someone was standing there. Aside from that this was a great video, I look forward to the meal plan.
first mistake, shopping at walmart. if you're on a budget this is not the spot EXCEPT for eggs lmaooo. idk how canada differs from the states but if yall live out here the best markets are typically local international markets and german stores ported to the usa like LIDL, pricing is usually 2-3x lower than it is at major chain stores so youll get higher quality food for less instead of having to buy prison commissary items. If you're really broke, make your own noodles, it costs pennies in comparison to buying prepackaged noodles and its seriously a lot easier than you guys think it is. Buy foods that you can regrow from scraps too like scallions and celery just to name a few of them, these will grow super fast and it takes zero effort, you just need some dirt and water and youll have unlimited vegetables that cost basically nothing upfront too. not saying this is a bad list by any means, i think you have some great picks on here like the oats and some of your meat choices, however i would get tired of eating these items daily because theres only so much you can do with them so i dont think these would be my first picks.

That sounds great. Personally I would probably smother that in hot sauce.

Thank you so much for the tip about the Halal yogurt! I had no idea and usually pay like $5 a container for the usual brands in plain~!
I use the Halal trick too. Halal chicken is usually much cheaper and even tastes better too IMO.

Hi Nicole! You got some bargains. Helpful info! Thank you!! ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
I would make a carrot soup with that yogurt.
grats on the 130lbs. very impressive to lose it and to keep it off for so long.
Thank you!
Impossible in Canada, specifically in Quebec!

This! I can't find eggs for less than $4.99 now. It's incredible in the worst way.
Not those prices anymore. LOL. The carrots alone are $3.97 now in Halifax.
Halal chicken dogs and chicken burgers are often cheaper at Walmart as well and I’ve noticed slightly better on calories for the size of the patty 👌
LOL...good lord, the light on, in your hall, in the back scared the crap out of me, I thought someone was standing there. Aside from that this was a great video, I look forward to the meal plan.
This is off topic but what do U use for your hair? Its always so shiny 😊
That got weird at the end, but I loved it. I'm subbing just to see more.
Thank you!
Love your word bahinga.....❤️
🤣
Where in Canada? In Vancouver the Walmart prices seem higher. Still though…super inspired.
This was a year ago… so… yeah
I have carrot envy! 😂 1$ for 3 lbs!!! And not just the price, they are nice and fat, lol
eggs at my house are 10 bucks a dozen, so that would be the first thing kicked off this list, lol
Great video ❤
I’m new here so excuse my lack of knowledge- but which province? Are you based in Alberta by chance?
Welcome to the team! We're in Ontario.

The fact that this video had to be made makes me sad. Well done on the video though. It will help a lot of people!! 8)
I would get rid of the weiners and have beans. We don't need dairy.. Haven't had any in Years and years.
What about milk&butter or oil
Wow I saw yoghurt for $7.00 today.
Please provide for non veg
Are you actually going to eat this for a week?
