  • Welcome aboard Trenitalia's Intercity Notte sleeper train as it whisks us overnight from Naples to Palermo on Sicily. On Sicily? Yes, you heard that right. In the middle of the night the entire trail boards a ferry that transfers us from Italy's mainland to the island of Sicily. Along the way, we'll tour our Relax class Doppia (two person) room and the rest of the sleeper car. We'll chow down on breakfast snacks and a diminutive yet oh-so-strong shot of Italian expresso. And, not afraid to ruin a good hight's sleep, David will rise at 4 in the morning to witness the train as it boards the ferry. Enjoy!

Most definitely. We hope to be posting a video soon of our sleep tray journey from Siracusa on Sicily to Milan, which also took us on the ferry but in the daytime.

My mom used to take this train a good bit to visit family in Sicily, and one story she's told me is of the time that she and her brother accidentally fell asleep and forgot to move into the cars that go onto the ferry. As a result they ended up getting sent all the way back up the coast and essentially had to make the trip over again, always stay awake if you know there's going to be unique stuff like this!

That is a great story! Stay awake...a good lesson to be sure.
