My Grandfather had this record , and loved to play it on Saturday evening . Sitting in his chair smoking his pipe and sipping whiskey , and I'd be rt at his feet . Laying on my back , hands folded behind my head . Trying to hear what he heard , Grandpa I hear it now !

This is an old favorite song of mine, and I love Johnny Hartman's low, slow baritone voice singing it, just beautiful! Great instrumental interlude also. "...We come and we go like the ripples on a stream, so love me tonight, for tomorrow may never come, for all we know." How poignant those words are; give love and take it while you can, there may not be a tomorrow!

In my opinion, artists communicate thoughts and feelings through their work. Sometimes it gets you to think or feel, sometimes you can get kind of lost with where they “take you”, and then there’s Johnny Hartman…who, through his performance brings you so completely into a bygone time, into a beautiful and comfortable jazz-club-evening, complete with small cloth-draped tables, with small dimmed lights, and a beverage of your choosing.
His voice makes you feel like you’re right there…dressed-up like folks used to. And with closed eyes you can feel, through Johnnys’ voice, completely immersed in a jazz-happiness.
    Thank you always Johnny.

Johnny Hartman is a hell of a singer who makes your heart to loose a beat.Once you heard his voice you will lay awake all night thinking about the impossible. Together with Earl Coleman, Billy Ekstine and Arthur Pryslock constitute a class is smooth; beautiful and sensitive singers whose contribution in the American artform can't be easily dismissed .

Picking Johnny Hartman to sing the old standard "For All We Know" was so apropos for this movie, the whole thing fell together into perfection! This is a favorite of mine for everything about it, the music, the acting, the emotion, all done so very well, making this a winner! Thank you, Clint, Meryl, et al.!
