Thanks for the idea. I've thrown all kinds of parts and this might be it. It hesitates around 45-55 mph and rough start. I'm changing it. You made it seem easy for a non-mechanic. Thanks!
I’m ready to get going on the bodywork but I really can’t stand working on vehicles that don’t run lol so I had to figure out what was going wrong with my truck
Hey there, I don't know if you will see my message, but I hope you do. My truck is a 1994 Silverado that has the same motor, 5.7 tbi. Starts up easy and runs great, but after it sits for a while after having a hot engine, it is hard to start back up. It just started doing it this year after having owned the truck since 2012 with no problems at all. Did you have any of the same symptoms? I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor already and I thought that took care of the problem, but yesterday it did it again. The next thing on my list is the fuel pressure regulator, and the ignition control module. I'm not afraid to wrench on them, and the fuel pressure regulator and the ignition control module look easy / quick to change out. Great video!
Hey Mark, I had those same symptoms and I went through a long list of things that I thought would fix the issue which didn’t until I changed the fuel pressure regulator
@@undergroundbuilds7 I have 10 days off after Christmas, I'm going to do it on / around then, I will for sure come back here and let you know! Thank you!
I got an 89 Chevy and put new everything but the pcm or ECM or the fule pressure regulator man I hope that's all it will be the computers they ant cheep at all
My Sub's crank case fills up with fuel, and it starts smoking. I guess the crank starts throwing oil up into the cylinders. Is it the pressure regulator?
Can this part fit on a 92 obs silverado too? Cuz I’m only seeing rebuild kits also. Did you have to calibrate the spring under the housing before putting it on?
My 94 GMC K1500 will have issues starting with first start... It cranks for what feels like a few seconds longer than needed.... Put a new fuel pressure regulator diaphragm with gaskets and injectors... New ECT sensor.... Last time I checked, the timing was correct at 0 degree TDC....
@@undergroundbuilds7..... Yup... I checked the timing last night.... Just a fraction off from 0 degree so I'm going to give it a little bump and get it back to 0 degree.... Another thing that I didn't do is change out the assembly for the fuel regulator.... Only changed the diaphragm that was in the rebuild kit......
It ran bad as if it wasn’t getting fuel, sometimes it would stall on me while I was driving and I would have to let it sit for a while before it would start back up, it’s fuel injected of course and sometimes I had to pump or hold the gas pedal like it was a carb
My 1991 van has a 3.1L engine fueled by a Throttle Body Injection system. When cold starting it, the engine needs around 5 seconds of crank time and has very little power at first. Pressing the gas pedal too hard causes the engine to die at this point. After 5 to 10 minutes, the engine is at operating temperature and pressing the gas pedal suddenly and hard won't stall the engine. I don't know why that is. However, even when at operating temperature, it won't rev past 2500 RPM. Flooring the gas pedal only creates misfires, with explosions both through the tailpipe and the throttle body. I checked sparkplugs and their cables (checked out good), checked the fuel pump rubber hose for cracks (all okay) and changed the fuel filter. Engine behaves the same. I shall check the fuel pressure regulator and if it looks fine, search for a pressure set screw, see if adjusting that will change anything. Please reply if the symptoms that your truck had before replacing its fuel pressure regulator were the same as those I described. Thank you.
@@soupflood I’m having similar issues. It doesn’t happen all the time, but my 95 Tahoe will suddenly backfire and stall while driving. First time I was going down the expressway at 70mph. I was able to shift into neutral while rolling and restart the car. However after that initial stall I’ll have to keep it below 30mph or else it will stall again. Have you found a fix for yours?
@@schmidtface the "fix" i found was half the AFR map for everything above 2500RPM (6 parts air for 1 part gasoline instead of 12:1)... BUT that's not "correct" i guess you understand why (if it really is 6, then fuel consumption doubles and spark plugs will foul twice as fast, and if it is something like low fuel pressure, then AFR averages to 12 but it's not as good as normal fuel pressure)
It would run normal then shut off while driving. It seemed as it would get hot and shut off then after sitting for a while it would start back up like normal
@@undergroundbuilds7 So I just started having an issue. I was driving at 70mph at cruising RPM of 2000 started to "Sputter" like it dropped RPMs 2x, then again 1x. BUt as soon as I gave it more gas and got it up to 3000rpm it went away. What do you think?
@@BPzeropoint I can’t say for sure but it sounds like something going on between the pressure regulator and the injectors, my truck would drive fine off and on until I changed the pressure regulator and it went back to normal

I've been having trouble with my 95 454 TBI. At idle it goes all wonky after it warms up. Throws code 35 and 45. Rebuilt regulator and changed IAC. Time will tell but I was wondering if it was temp sensor. My regulator wasn't bad when I got into it. Not sure what issue is

What it was doing b4 u change the fuel pressure regulator
I would lose acceleration while driving and my truck would cut off and after a while would start back up or go days without starting
What was it doing before you replaced F.P.R. ?
It wouldn’t start or if it did start it would run for a little while and then shut off due to not getting any fuel
What happened to the upk not gone I hope keep them coming my friend
Definitely not gone Arnie and I will keep the content coming…Appreciate you!

Could a faulty fuel regulator cause it to dump more fuel ?
That’s possible, I never encountered that issue but it may be possible if the gasket is bad

My Sub's crank case fills up with fuel, and it starts smoking. I guess the crank starts throwing oil up into the cylinders. Is it the pressure regulator?
I haven’t had the smoking issue so I honestly can’t say that it’s the pressure regulator
That or your injectors are sticking open
Was hoping you,d be opening up the regulator and spring , eg.-changing to a higher spring rate for added pressure ( more intence spray )
I’ll have to look into that, I’m doing the same thing on my obs Silverado, I appreciate you checking out the video!
Maybe next time you'll let us know what the actual issue is because it could be causing it to run rich or run lean
My truck wasn’t running at all and after doing this it’s been running since, I appreciate you checking out the video
Where did you get the new regulator from and how much was it because my 93 has been having the same issues and I can only find the rebuild kit for it
