In this video I show how to import a Revit model in to Infraworks in 3 simple steps. Infraworks will allow you to improve the visualization of your context especially if imported into Lumion along with your Revit model.

We have a problem about coordinates Revit to Infra
If we use workflow Revit >Export CAD 3D (the coordinate good)
If we use flow Revit >Import Infrawork (the coordinates having trouble)
with your method, I think is possible and coordinates can good in Infra
I cant believe I didnt' know how to do this earlier, this is great. quick question, I want to carve out of the site model so to put my project in, is this possible? Im also having a problem locating my actuall property on the site, but eyeing it right now.

How did you get the coordinates from infraworks into revit? Did you type them in or did you use Civil 3d?
Do you mean how to get the coordinates from Revit to Infraworks? If the coordinates of a point are known you can type them in within Infraworks as long as the the correct coordinate system is set, as shown in this video. You don't need Civil 3D for this workflow.
BIM Lounge you setup your project in Infraworks then you jump over to Revit and your coordinates are already set. Can those numbers be transferred to Revit so it’s more automated. Automating this process helps avoid errors. I ask about Civil 3D because of the “Export Shared Reference Points” tool that exports an xml with your coordinates.
Colby, I see. I don't show it in this video, but I acquired coordinates from a CAD file (from surveyor or civil engineer) so that's one way to automate it.. I tried the xml route to have Revit create a topography from Civil contour lines, but not to transfer coordinates. I found that acquiring coordinates is easy enough and only takes a few clicks. Have you tried that? - Alberto

I used the sample model that comes with Revit and haven't focused on applying materials. However, in my experience it's better to organize the materials in Revit so that they are separated correctly without worrying about the actual look and then assign them in Infraworks. I tend not to rely on materials to transfer so I assign them in Infraworks directly. Have you tried that? Let me know how that works for you. The version shouldn't matter, I used Revit 2019 and IW 2020 as well. If you are looking to create renderings I would recommend bringing both Revit and Infraworks models into Lumion. I have a video about that going out next week.

Interesting one! I wasn't able to find a video explain that exactly so I can look at making one myself. There are some limitations to that so I still recommend using another visualization tool, but I'll see how far I can take Infraworks 2020.
@@moniralsharani2225 Hi Monir, a way to have better control over materials in IW is to assign them in Revit and then export as FBX. In IW you will import the FBX as a 3D model. The materials you assigned will show up, even custom textures (not just default Autodesk library). The FBX format should also allow you to place the model in the correct coordinates similarly to what I'm showing in this video.

Once I import the model into IW ,
he gives me this message :
" could not load protein materials successfully .
You may not have the correct Autodesk Material Library installed.
The Material Library required is packaged with an installation of Revit , 3DS Max or some suites if the same year as your IW 360 "

The Model I import seems to disappear. Idk why.
I was having that issue before I figured out this workflow. I would go through the steps again and double check that the correct coordinate system in Infraworks is set before importing the Revit model.
@@BIMLounge Did that but didnt seem to work for me, I finally used the Interactive placement tool and Voila it worked, apparently I had been clicking ok, instead of close & refresh.... :)
Great! If you are looking to import in the exact location as opposed to interactive placement "close and refresh" may just be the solution. . I noticed that when I use interactive placement I can look at the coordinates and use the same format when typing them in. Either way, glad it worked for you. Thanks for watching!
I did the same method but the Revit file is not showing the infrawork
It can be a bit tricky, so I would recommend you try following the steps one more time. It's critical to set the correct coordinate system in Infraworks, type the coordinates that you see in Revit in the configure menu within Infraworks. At that point hit close and refresh and your model should be there. Let me know if you have better luck.
