    Hey Verrillo, great video! I've got a question about the Interactive Brokers API. I'm thinking about subscribing to a few data feeds like NASDAQ Network C UTP, New York Stock Exchange Network A, and a couple of others, which I know cost around $1.50 per month. But I want to use this data for backtesting my algorithms. So, my question is, does this subscription also let me access historical data through the API? How far back can I go with that? And if it doesn't, or if there are any limitations, how much would it cost me to access the historical data I need? Are there any extra fees or subscriptions I should know about for using this historical data? Thanks in advance for your help!

    • @VerrilloTrading
      @VerrilloTrading  Год назад

      Thank you for your question. I do not know how much historical data is provided by the API you should confirm this with their support or API specialists. I would not get your hopes up about IBKR historical data, you can test it for yourself to see if it fits your requirement.

    Hi there, I trade options and just want to know if I get my stock information from trading view do I only need the OPRA subscriptions to get my option chain information etc

    • @VerrilloTrading
      @VerrilloTrading  Год назад

      That would be entirely up to you. If Tradingview is fine for your stock charts then you could get the data there. However I think IBKR has a connection to Tradingview so even if you pay it through IBKR you can access it through Tradingview. I am not 100% sure on this but this should be true because of the new connection they developed. Either way, you should not pay for the same real-time market data twice, unless you have to. For the options data the OPRA subscription is correct and then there are additional Level 2 feeds that may not be necessary but just know they exist.

    • @VerrilloTrading
      @VerrilloTrading  10 месяцев назад

      Technically you do not need any market data to trade any market but it depends on how the trader wants to inform themselves. If you asked me I'd say yes the underlying data is important for trading the derivatives like the options or futures. I would get the stock data too because there are calculations you can make on the underlying that can give you pricing models for the options. (determine approximate take profit, risk levels).

      I would not rely on those free quotes to make frequent trade decisions. You are better off getting the data from the 3 networks A,B and C. Why do they make such a big deal out of simply knowing the price of the stocks when so it is a given for many platforms? Imagine if TD expected you to trade without knowing the price of what you're buying

    • @VerrilloTrading
      @VerrilloTrading  8 месяцев назад

      The reason is because like anything where money is involved, politics and greed is involved. Stock and futures markets have existed for a long time already. There are certain entities that have control over how these things work. A lot of the rules regarding market data come from the exchanges first and get passed on to the brokers. some brokers choose to handle the costs and pass it on to their customers in a non direct way like TD might do. IBKR is a broker that typically passes the cost directly to the customer. This is the technically correct way.

      In a cash account your buying power is the available cash in your account. We could make a video but what in particular were you confused about?

      @@VerrilloTrading Like i tried to see account minimum it doesn't show me $2k account anywhere on Ibkr website does the policy have been changed? And for the buying power many people told me in ibkr when you fund your account first time your option buying power is unlimited means like if i have $1k Account size and i take 1 trade with contract which costed me $200 and i ganied $10 on that contract and i exit that position same day my funds available to trade for next trade on same day will be $1010 as it get settled same day and i can buy that worth of contract. And someone even told me if i use it for stocks, my option buying power will be gone and then it won't be unlimited means it will be $800 for next trade if i used for stock and then tried to use again for options contract can you explain a bit? And How does big trading accounts get funded same day? If they are not using margin? Or they are using margins??

      @@theheerasaggu Hello sorry for the delayed response. Stock options are usually T+1 settlement and it does not matter which account type you have. The only thing is with a margin account it gives the illusion of immediate settlement but in reality the trade will still settle T+1. In a cash account you can technically trade again with unsettled funds but be careful because you will have a violation if you close a trade that you opened using unsettled funds. That is called the 'free riding rule'. If you're using a cash account just be aware of how much cash you have and the amount of cash that is being used for each trade you place. For example if you have a 20k balance and you initiate a trade that requires 1k cash, you could close and reopen that trade 20 times before you exhaust your daily cash balance. Here is some additional information we found about the free riding rule: us.etrade.com/knowledge/library/stocks/understanding-cash-account-violations

      @@VerrilloTrading About hundreds of different commissions and subscriptions. It is even difficult to read them all. I have account with Questrade and their commission structure is much more simpler. But more expensive... Could you please explain how margin account works with IB ? When do they start to charge interest on loans? I do not want margin but can not sell puts on their cash account and they require to convert to margin account for that.
