I'm 45 now and I would go back in time and go for the things that I really wanted instead of what I thought was expected of me. I would put away me fears and go for what I wanted. I guess it's not too late 😊

I'm 67 and I would not get married. I'm very independent, did not want children, and would not be a traditional wife. I was married for 10 years. My husband did not want children either which is one of the reasons I married him. But in the end I think he really wanted a traditional wife that would kow tow to him and wait on him 24/7. So I tell all young people to have the conversation BEFORE they get married about what their future husband/wife expects from marriage. Talk about the hard stuff before you are living it.

Trust only your ideas of what is right and true. Other people, no matter how much they think otherwise, do not understand your life and your goals. Don't listen to them. And keep your plans to yourself or they will try and shoot yours down if your plans don't agree with theirs....which is almost all the time. Just go about your business quietly. Be pleasant to the people around you. But don't give them anything to shoot at.

I’m 65. My financial advice is don’t spend money trying to keep up with others. Forget them and be frugal. And my most import advice is about personal relationships. Pay attention to red flags in people and walk away forever if you see red flags. Doesn’t matter if they are a blood family member, a friend, a spouse or life mate. No, I’m not suggesting walking away if someone is imperfect. We’re all human. But we all know what true red flags are. People don’t change. Love yourself enough to walk away from anyone who aren’t treating you as they should.

Please surround yourself with good people. When you realise someone is expoloiting you emotionally, spiritually, financially cut them away does not matter who they are to you. Life is already really difficulty do not let people you surround yourself with become another warzone. If you do not find good people be alone. Involvement with wrong people willl ruin your peace, money, health and youth. Be brave enough to distance yourself and say no ,fight for your happiness and peace.

I retired at 57, 6+ years ago. A key message I would communicate to others is don't delay retirement if you have the financial wherewithal to do so. Too often I have seen many people delay retirement and then experience health issues which constrain the very things they wanted to do post-retirement.
Moreover, the most significant benefit of retirement for me is that I no longer have to deal with people I do not want to. That has proved to be the ultimate blessing.

You might encounter financial hardships later on, or have to deal with inevitable physical and health setbacks. As a single man in my 30’s; I look at the teacher and married guy giving out all this wisdom. Makes me feel that whichever way I go, I’ll probably still be ok. That goes for everyone in the single boat contemplating which direction to go. If you find yourself wanting a family and partner and can’t find one to want to be with you; it’s not the end of the world. Some of us are destined to be alone, that’s ok.

@Adam-go8oz I used to go out allot and when I did I had dates, many rejections. Online dating was the same but that turned to crap two years ago. Now that I go to the gym and home, do nothing; I have no dates. Very few will like you at the gym and are probably partnered and are afraid to talk to you if they find you attractive. Single ones have their options too I suppose. Allot of people link up on instagram but I find social media superficial and depressing. You could try hinge and bumble. Because you can delete it anytime you want, not be asked why you got off it unlike socials. Good luck.

    My one piece of advice:
It doesn't matter what you do for an income/career, but, since you have only one life that means you have only one shot, so do what you love, what makes you happy; follow your dreams. Never, ever sacrifice your dreams for anyone. That means, if the people around you that are trying to run with you can't keep up, don't slow down for them because all they'll do, either consciously or subconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally, they are going to slow you down and make you run at their pace, which will make you appear to be just like them. And then, all of your extra capability, all of your excellence, all of your faster running speed isn't visible to people anymore, and your extra capabilities won't matter anymore. You won't be excellent or high speed because you just made yourself just as slow as the group. Don't do that. Run on. Run on, so you can find the group that you can run with at your speed. And, in the group that you find that you can run with, you'll discover the right person to share your life with. And, IMHO, don't ever get married. You don't need marriage to live a happy life. But, commonsense practicality dictates that you absolutely need a good [enough] income and a good [enough] lifestyle to be happy, be it alone or with someone, married or unmarried. Loneliness and regret is a luxury when compared to being cold, hungry, and displaced.

I was very young & I thought I found someone who was going to be successful & a good provider which was very important to me since my father was the very opposite. I always worked & never had a problem keeping a job. All went well for about 2 years & found he struggled to keep a job more than a year or two. Time went on & it improved to maybe 5-7 years tops. Thought it was always the companies he chose to work for but over the years found it was him making stupid mistakes. Was in my late 30’s & for the first time in my life I asked myself “what is wrong with him?” But I kept being supportive until he had an affair.

Women used to be able to "garnish" a man's wages (maybe I got the word wrong) because otherwise he would drink all the money away on payday. Men provide for themselves. My dad used to eat his lunch at a fancy restaurant every day as we had very little food at home. He had a company car and his own golf membership. The rest of the family were second class. Then he lost the house to the bank. Staying single in the best advise. Boyfriends are great. Also get a dog.

@@Spiritof_76 I agree. My daughter was four at the time of my divorce. She doesn't remember a thing, but her father continued to be a "problem child" until he died when she was seventeen. If you have kids, the divorce is never final, if you get my drift, which is why your advice is good. On the other hand, there are some really wonderful marriages out there that really do work. Those people are lucky. I just keep getting my music out there for others to enjoy. Being single can be very gratifying. Thanks and take care.

I appreciate that you showed diverse perspectives instead of just a typical "follow your passion" message - passion is important and good if you have it, but as mentioned in the video, it's not a guarantee that you will make it big by following it, and some people never find a true passion. There are people who end up doing something they don't particularly love, but it pays the bills and allows them to live comfortably and securely, and there are people who will take risks to chase a dream and either make it big or fail. Both are valid forms of fulfillment.
I also like that we were able to hear from someone who stayed single and happy as well as those who are happily married. Thanks for sharing these messages with the world!

What I’ve learned through the death of my Mom and sister is that you need to live for today, follow your dreams, work to live don’t live to work. Buy the pony, eat the occasional dessert, exercise, live well. Remember that your job will post a job opening the moment after you are no longer there, they are not family no natter how many times they say they are family. Always be able to financially take care of your own bills, don’t ever rely on someone else for that, my father’s death (at 12) was an eye opener for that. Don’t say you will travel in retirement, you may not be heathy enough to do that.

Then make a vacation fun also and use it for a one week mini vacation every year. Go 24 places in 24 years. Throw in a few extra trips and in 25 years will have been over 50 places in the world while you were young enough to enjoy it with your spouse and kids before they are all grown and you are old and not as active. I am maybe, if I am lucky, about halfway through my life (38) - The first 22yrs were full of pain, trauma, suffering, neglect and utter hopelessness. The second half of my life has brought me the joy of raising 2 kids, and experiencing love, something I was not lucky enough to experience before they came along. Unfortunately, the past 7yrs have been full of sadness and pain, because, the first 22yrs came crashing down and, the body does keep score. My body has begun failing me, my nervous system is spent. I both simultaneously fear death, yet am tired of living. I don’t want to die, but sometimes I truly feel like I can’t live much longer. I do have 2 sons who are in their teens now, and I will remain alive so long as I am blessed to, for the sake of them. But life for me, has been hard. Lonely, full of pain, full of sadness, and if I am honest I envy people who seem to find living so much easier.

She was diagnosed BiPolar later which answered a lot of questions. All those years I thought it was me. I have a great relationship with my natural kids, the narcissistic step son is completely out of my life, thank God! In hindsight, I would have never gotten married but would have adopted children being single. Stay single, live below your means, invest from day one (Read Rich Dad Poor Dad and follow Warren Buffett) in strong companies and keep them forever. Keep building your portfolio and NEVER cash it in. Have an emergency fund of at least 2K and grow it to 10K and you will never have credit card debt if you choose not to. STAY OUT OF DEBT!!! If you start your own business, do it yourself. Partnerships are worse than marriages in most instances. If you start a business with your wife, remember that if you get divorced you are stuck with each other because of the business. The last one is probably the worst scenario in my opinion!

I worked my butt off as an emergency medicine RN, exposing myself to things I wish I never had to see or deal with. But food and shelter are more important than dreams
Chase your dreams, but chase them only after you have worked to secure yourself some level of stability. You don't want to be dreaming about where you are going to find your next meal.
