    Unpopular opinion here, I dont think the new Ranger is thay badly priced, I actually think it is a good deal. People still look at the Ranger as the cheap, terrible but endearing midget beater truck that it was 15 years ago, the newer Ranger is closer in size to that gen F150 than that gen Ranger. $60k is ton of money, but its equivalent to $45k in 2015 dollar terms and compared to new as well as used truck prices these days its pretty reasonable. The new Ranger is good enough I think it almost makes the F150 redundant, as if youre towing snd hauling stuff consistently you're stepping up to a F250 at least and if youre just wanting to truck stuff occasionally the Ranger is much more liveable and capable enough.

    • @-Jethro-
      @-Jethro- 26 дней назад +9

      When people were begging for the return of the Ranger, I don’t think they wanted a 3/4 scale F150. Pretty sure they wanted the small, simple, affordable truck that was the old Ranger.

      @munkydotorg 26 дней назад +6

      @@-Jethro-that’s where the Maverick landed (we could argue unibody vs body on frame but thats another convo). Size wise, my mom has both a 99 Ranger extended cab and a 24 Maverick. Very close in size, bigger (and nicer interior), a little bit shorter bed but deeper, much higher payload capacity with the Maverick.

    • @munkydotorg
      @munkydotorg 26 дней назад +4

      I don;t know if I would say almost redundant. I have a 23 F150 and had considered the Ranger. F150 has much more interior space and a bigger bed. My spec has a similar payload as the ranger raptor, but 12,500 pounds towing. The Ranger is probably all of the truck I really need, but I like the F150 much more.

      Eh it's not that reasonable when a Chevy Colorado ZR2 is $5-10k cheaper and just as capable as the Ranger Raptor.

    • @BenA_DD
      @BenA_DD 26 дней назад +5

      @heavymetal9099 Nahh the Raptor is more extreme desert baja runner and the ZR2 is more like Overlander+, the ZR2 is more comparable to a Tremor packaged truck. Chevy must hate money and refuses to give us an actual Raptor fighter in any category: Fullsize, Midsize, or Bronco-type truck. Another massive thing is resale, look at any Raptor ever made and resale defies logic, so any extra savings will be quickly eaten up by depreciation.

    • @kx8960

      I originally wanted a 4dr Badlands Sasquatch, but the frameless doors and removable roof, and the fact that I decided I really had to have a bed for hauling nasty stuff I couldn't haul inside were the reason I got a 2024 Colorado ZR2 instead. I knew that with the Bronco I'd never take anything but the front top part off (and then where do you store it?), would never take the back part off, and would never even consider taking the doors off. And the fact is, the vast majority of owners don't either, at least not on a regular basis. The frameless doors were a major nope for me because I work at 7,300ft where it snows, and when (not if) the window freezes in the up position, it's a pain to even open the door, and then when you do, the window will not seal because there's now a gap, plus it's hard on the window motor etc. (possible damage) doing that. So, yes, the ZR2 has a little longer wheelbase and less breakover and departure angles, but it's more stable on the trail and on the road (which, let's face it they spend by far the most time on) especially when towing (they usually have higher ratings too). And it while it has less internal room, it has a MUCH bigger bed you can put waterproof storage boxes in (I have a truck box I can easily put in and out and secure it with anti-theft cables) and you could put a camper on it. WAY more versatile. Since I got the power moonroof, I have almost all the benefits of the removable front top, AND the ability to quickly close it in inclement weather and still look up thru the glass, or if the sun is beating down on my face, I close the shade. I recently did a 3,700mi trip in 10 days from basically Southern CO to Glacier Nat'l Park and back down for 1-1/2 days wheeling in Moab and it was awesome having that flexibility with the moonroof. It's all in what works best for your needs, and for many of us, that's a truck. LOVE my ZR2, WAY more capable than I am as a driver. I think Chevy should make a new body on frame Blazer based on the Colorado but with framed doors and a solid roof (with optional moonroof) for those of us that want one. THAT would sell like hotcakes!

    I can't tell you how many times I have gone well off road only to find a Subaru (or a group of Subaru's) out there. Certainly, the approach angles are not as good as they could be but the Wilderness editions have good ground clearance. And, I have never seen a Subaru owner air down. Jeep and Bronco owners seem to constantly air down when they don't have to (and should not have).

      My 2010 RAV4 V6 AWD (now with 212k miles!) is surprisingly capable, especially since, unlike Subies, I can actually mechanically lock the center diff up to 25mph. I've taken that thing ALL kinds of places I probably shouldn't have, and almost got it stuck (badly!) only once, and it made it every time. Sometimes barely (gotta be careful, no skidplates!), but it did. BUT, having said that, it's (and Subies) capabilities are nowhere near those of my 2024 Colorado ZR2 or anything similar. Not even close. Ground clearance, actual lockers, skidplates, and low range are SO much better offroad. Plus it's more enjoyable since even on stuff the little SUV's could do (but at a crawl, stressing over your lines), the ZR2 just cruises over like it was nothing, allowing me to enjoy the scenery with a lot less stress.

    You can sleep inside the Bronco so you don't need an $11k GFC. My dog isn't getting up in a RTT with me and he isn't fitting in the back of that Ranger. Also, you can have the Bronco with a manual. I have a Chevy Colorado already and for less $ than you put into the GFC I could put a supercharger on it and have more power than the turbo Ranger. So I think I'd go for a lower spec Manual Bronco and a supercharger for my Colorado and still be under $58k

    If I were to buy new, the Ranger Rapter would be my everyday driver choice. If I did more off-roading, I would still take the Ranger but change to 35's and take the steps off and replace them with real sliders. Also, the price needs to be reduced by at least 15%. Personally, I would wait two or three years and make the same changes and save a lot of money.

    Well considering that the bronco 4 door and Ranger are built on nearly the same frame and they both have ecoboost engines I think the performance is going to be pretty similar between the 2. My money is on the Bronco tho. Bigger tires better clearance.

    As a EU citizen I am just very jealous of Colorados trail network and the possibilities you have over there. In my country every road is either closed off or paved with tarmac, if you cant drive there with a Nissan Leaf its illegal. I can see where these rules come from but its been taken far too long

      While Colorado/Utah/Montana/etc.. offer impressive public trails in vast wilderness, it's not like the whole USA is like that :- ). And while majority of Europe has indeed nothing of it, we do have very similar trails on periphery. Romania and Balkans (Particularly Montenegro, Albania,..) offer wild camping and off-road trails. And further east, though not by crazy much, Armenia and Georgia are still super safe (for now...) and also offer wild camping and off-road trails.
      It all requires bit more time for travel (so no weekend trips) but still very impressive and I would say even more diverse experience.

    The problem with 33" tires is that they're actually 32.7" and once the weight of the truck is on them probably 32.2" To advertise 33" tires they should have to actually be 33" tires.

    Bed stiffener have been on back order for months. How did you get a set to run the ranger camper top? Anything over 88 lbs above the bed needs them according to ford. Don't understand why they make a flimsy bed requiring such a thing?

      I'd like to know, too. They used to have a radio sponsor several years ago but these units are clearly not those. I suppose any common units would work at the very short vehicle-to-vehicle distances they keep, though (trails, drag races, etc).

  • @billredding2000
    @billredding2000 26 дней назад

    I wouldn't take any "car"off-road, but would a SUV (if capable). As for "what's better off-road" IMO it depends on the particular trail: Is a shorter wheelbase (SUV) better suited for that trail or is a longer wheelbase (truck)? For one example, but truck and SUVs can do Black Bear Pass, but the best choice (makes it EASIER) is a 2-door SUV (like a Wrangler). However, as said BOTH types of vehicles CAN do that pass. On a pass with break-over-challenge obstacles, then yes, a truck isn't so good.

    It would have been cool if they kept the Grenadier for longer than a month and had it in this comparo. Because this wasn't rock crawling but trail driving i.e. over-landing. And then we'd have seen what an extra $20K gets you - or not - over the Bronco.
