Best friends betray the protagonist in GTA characters, that’s not something new. Billy is a great character and I wish his antagonistic arc would’ve been more fleshed out. Ashley was right about Billy poisoning Ray against Johnny, and Ray knew Billy was on the inside and he probably had encouraged Billy further into ratting out the Lost so that Johnny would get out of the equation. Billy is a really scummy character, and the way he gleefully betrayed Johnny and Jim with the expressed intention of killing Johnny is just disgusting. Even though Sonny was making fun of Tommy’s arrest and Smoke had no qualms about betraying his family and opened fire on his childhood friend, Billy setting up Johnny, despite knowing him for 20 years, is just so disgusting, especially considering how Johnny was set up for merely having a different opinion on things. Granted, Billy’s betrayal had permanent damage, like Smoke and Sonny’s betrayal with Tommy’s arrest and fifteen years taken out of his life and later he convinced his best friend to double cross him, leaving Tommy with another scar, one that likely changed him for the rest of his life. Smoke’s betrayal got the Johnsons’ mother killed and almost destroyed Grove Street Families, and flooded Los Santos with drugs and contributed to Tenpenny’s acquittal and more deaths. Still, something about Billy’s nature, despite his short stay as an antagonist, makes the betrayal just as bad, especially with how Johnny became a drug addict down the line. I haven’t included Lance as he was manipulated by Sonny into betraying Tommy, thinking Sonny would be a better alternative on top of how Tommy treated him and haven’t included Dimitri due to Mikhail, as his best friend, wasn’t the protagonist. The worst betrayal he committed is towards Mikhail, not Niko. Michael shouldn’t be included as despite his betrayal being very damaging for Trevor, he felt genuine remorse over it, which I can’t say for the others, despite the similarities.
@@IndoJordy yes, it’s a reoccurring theme in the criminal underworld. One best friend betrays the other for money or power, and the other is either killed or swears revenge.
One of my many favorite villains, honestly if he lived I could see him and trevor being a chaotic duo, billy would probably joke and shit on Trevor when he kills someone or does something dangerous
And five years later in GTA V depsite being long dead. Billy is still held up by many in the Lost, who don't believe Johnny that he flipped and that Johnny was a traitor. His legacy tainting Johnny until his dying day, his biggest fuck you to him and his brothers.
Lets not forget how they also killed off Victor Vance too and also turning Gta 3 Vice City and San Andreas into a Defective Tragedy but John's death in gta 5 will never ever make sense.
