Hi, I am a student film maker at UTA. I took ur advice and bought Naked filmmaking, shot by shot, cinematic storytelling and film makers eye. i will be reading master shots on my ipad. hopefully i will finish all books by end of summer and will be ready for the fall semester. Thanks for the video..
Thanks! I went for The Filmmaker's eye, Cinematic Storytelling, Master Shots Collection (trying vol 1 first), Film Directing Shot by Shot and Naked Filmmaking.
i was interested in making movies but i was unable to complete it, i made a trailer of my short film. shooting had been completed but i was unable to do editing stuff so, please say the book very basic for directing and editing
I use Truffaut/Hitchcock, the Lumet book, and most importantly, On Directing, by my mentor, Alexander Mackendrick, in my Advanced Directing courses at the International Film School of Paris. I can not recommend them highly enough.
+mahfuzur rahman Check out "Get Started in Short Filmmaking"...I think the new version is blue. If you're using a DSLR the "From Still To Motion" is great to get you up-to-speed on the technical stuff. Those 2 would be a great start. Then Mastershot's Vol 1 is great for planning your shots (there's an ebook version with video which is great too). Make sure you download my eBook "20 ways to make better video" also. it's free! I'm about top release my short film and 15 tutorials that go alone with it so please subscribe and keep an eye open for them.
Genre filmmaking is by Danny Draven he's a horror film director he also has a book called filmmakers Book of the Dead a great read if you're interested in making low budget features
Thanks for quick reply. Hm, but dosent cinematic story cover composition as well? Why get them both? Im thinking about just buying one of these three: filmmaker eye, cinematic storytelling, the visual story. Which one do you recommend? Im a filmstudent that aspires to become a DP. I know a lot about the visual components and want to learn more about how you use them to tell a story.
Daniel cinematic story telling will teach you 97 rules or conventions or filming tricks, from match cuts, audio transitions, intercutting scenes etc whereas the filmmakers eye is more concentrated on what goes into one shot. Maybe go to a big bookshop and check them out if you can't decided
Thank you! Great list.
Hello! Thank you very much! You helped me a lot! Good luck to you all!

Whats the difference between filmmaker eye and cinematic storytelling?
Filmaker's eye is more focused on the composition of a shot and cinematic story telling breaks down whole scenes.
